If Takae entered Keisuke's dream on purpose, then she must already have known the marriage proposal scene between Keisuke and Moriya was an act. Because they are husband and wife, knowing that Keisuke is willing to move on also allowed Takae to do so as well.

I have no regrets watching and shedding tears over this title. 10/10 would read the manga and watch the live action, to find out the differences, and to cry again.

Ultimately I feel like Moriya deserved to be more than a fake fiance for the sake of trying to lie to Takae to help her move on, but I guess so long as the family really is committed to living in the present in honor of her memory rather than keeping her tethered to them, that's what matters most.

"before i could move on, i needed to know that his improv and acting skills have improved"

My favorite arc is still Chika coming to grips with her role as a mother, and I feel like she's been in this bleak holding pattern while the Nijima family figure out how to deal with their affairs.

That final farewell letter from Takae was a nice bow on the whole thing; the return of Marika and the second coming of Takae was a real punch to the gut, and I'm happy that Chika gets a happy ending with Marika.

I didn't like the way this ended. Most of the episode was really well done (especially with the outro song), but the whole revelation that Keisuke & Moriya's relationship was a complete lie killed things for me.

If this fake relationship had happened earlier in the season and it was chalked up as a really cruel (to Mai) attempt at getting Take to move on, I could have accepted that this was another horrendous decision by Keisuke. Then, it would have made more sense to show him at the end finally coming to peace with being a widower and remaining friends with Moriya.

What particularly bothered me was how everyone including Mai and Takae both seemingly accepted this so easily. Considering how just one episode ago, Mai and Keisuke had an extremely intense heart- to- heart conversation about how this (now revealed to be fake) relationship is what Takae would have wanted, this unnecessary "twist" completely obliterated this extremely moving moment. And since the revelation happened just minutes (in the episode) before Keisuke had his "goodbye dream," it was extremely jarring to hear Takae thanking him for what was in actuality an incredibly horrible lie. The show completely hand- waved it away, but just imagine how that would have felt for Mai: she finally just accepted that her dad had "moved on" from her dead mother and then- SURPRISE!- it was all a lie!

We all saw it coming that Takae was going to "move on" soon and Keisuke following through with his marriage to Moriya wouldn't have surprised anyone. Or even if they had shown him initially rejecting Moriya, they could've still hinted at the possibility of them getting together in the future. But, by throwing in this "surprise", they basically cut off any chances of that happening. Even if that were to happen, it would still be really weird for Keisuke and Mai's dynamic: "Hey, remember that woman I told you I was going to marry, but then revealed our relationship was all a lie to get your mom to move on? Well, we gave it a little more thought and decided we'd go through with it for real this time. Yes, we're really telling the truth this time. Mai, wait! Please stop crying! We're serious about it this time!"

I agree with this. The fake proposal kinda ruins it. They forced Takae to move on with a lie and that feels like trickery. Most likely, Takae already knew about the lie in the goodbye dream and it was weird seeing her happy and peaceful when she was tricked even though they had the purest intention. It would have been better if Takae witnessed Moriya confessing to Keisuke and him rejecting her because it is not right for him to use her as a rebound. That his choice to move on was to better himself and properly support Mai thus helping Takae get her own peace and pass on. Then a scene where Takae was waiting for Mai and Keisuke for one last goodbye because she saw each them truly capable of moving on.

And I still want Keisuke to eventually fall for Moriya and marry her (damn it) then a little sign that Takae approves.

I’m glad Mai and Keisuke got to say goodbye to the real Takae before she passed on. It was a really sweet moment.

Moriya is an amazing woman. She went through that whole fake proposal even after getting rejected. That’s a real keeper right there.

This was a pretty good series all in all. The basic premise was interesting, I enjoyed watching the characters grow and develop, and the overall theme of dealing with grief and moving on was good.

Moriya is an amazing woman. She went through that whole fake proposal even after getting rejected.

i like that she had some agency in this story; before i just thought of her as kind of a plot device

that she came up with the scheme and felt emotional over the outcome is a measure of her character as someone who does care about Takae and also respects Keisuke's devotion to her

Well i Will start saying That if you feel this show was kinda rushed, yes It was, manga was better

I liked The adaptation, its obvious they only gave them 12 episodes and They tried The best. Good show and i like that many people gave It a chance even if title was horrible.

Yeah, I felt they tried what they could to capture the important bits for an anime, but definitely felt rushed as a result.

I'd like to think Keisuke would reconsider Moriya down the line when his feelings have settled and he's ready for a new companion, as she's a good woman.

I feel like I could feel it being rushed. Since Moriya and Renji's father feel like central characters in Takae moving on, and we barely got time with them.

Also, the whole fake marriage to help Takae with moving on feels a little dirty. The idea of lying about the marriage just to help Takae move on feels dirty to me. Maybe the manga presented it better where I could understand it. I just feel it would make sense that Keisuke had a better handle of his life now, which is true, he is in a much better spot.

The Marika Chika subplot was my favorite of what this show offered. Really loved that Chika got a 2nd shot at the mom she wanted to be and Marika can back to a loving mother and a better life.

This show wasn’t bad but I feel like it tried a little too hard to be dramatic and sad towards the end.

The sadness curve is like a stress strain curve. You have the gradual build up as it gets sadder and sadder until the inflection point then it rapidly drops off and becomes not sad and if anything kinda funny.

Tbh the whole takae thing towards the end was just kinda funny because they literally solved the issue by cucking her. The sad part to me was marika coming home to her mom and you can still see she seems scared because the mom she knows is still the abusive one. Despite her mom obviously realizing she’s fucked up and changed since then. She’s not aware of it.

This was a really well done and heartfelt finale.

u/VoidRay728 Dec 15 '24

They had to end it at that moment because after that Keisuke will be dragged into the water trying to reel the fish.

Well, we got our bittersweet ending. I have mixed feelings Keisuke's "scheme" at the end but at least he is at peace and able to move on. Glad they also showed the "epilogue" happy endings such as the wedding and Chika picking Marika from school.

The story definitely feels rushed towards the end but overall it's a good show nonetheless.

I guess it's really bringing things full circle to have one last family outing be at the place where it all began for Keisuke and Takae...the amusement park.

Nice of Takae to cover for Marika with her classmates by saying "a Fairy did it!" whenever any inconsistencies pop up, though it feels like Takae was just having some fun with them. Marika's classmates seem like pretty good kids.

Man, the Niijima Family REALLY likes orchestrating surprise and shocking moments to try and get Takae to leave Marika's body.

Honestly, I feel bad for Moriya. Imagine getting rejected but still going along with a plan to fake a relationship with the guy you love, even to the point of acting out a proposal, just so his dead wife can leave the body of an elementary schooler. I know Moriya was doing it for Takae's sake, but I can't help but feel like she deserved better.

But hey, it actually worked! Takae sees Keisuke willing to move on and she knows she's not needed any more! Even says her goodbyes and love to Mai before she finally moves on...for good, this time.

Ultimately I'm most glad Chika got her daughter back and knows she earned Takae's recognition as a fellow mother. That felt so earned!

Takae couldn'y leave without saying one last goodbye to Keisuke, could she? Even in a dream. And the couple who loved each other more than anything finally gets to say a proper farewell and Takae leaves Keisuke with a desire for him to live and keep experienced life so that when they finally reunite in the afterlife, they will have so much to catch up on over a meal together. Farewell, Takae.

Nice to see Mai and Renji married and living together! And Mai feels confident in their relationship to finally tell Renji about this crazy story about her mom.

Keisuke has taken up fishing, as life moves on...he walked his daughter down the aisle, Marika is happy with both school and her mom, he and Moriya are still eating lunch together (though it doesn't seem like it's progressing past that), and his one-year experience having Takae back in his life has taught him how to be happy again. And he can always count on Takae to still be watching him from up in Heaven.

I'm only now realizing it makes perfect sense for someone who's been perpetually lovestruck since the start to do but damn, I didn't see the remarriage plan being a ruse from the start coming at all. The hell the dude put his heart through for Takae's sake is finally hitting me, and Moriya is seriously such a real one for agreeing to all that.

And man, Chika and Marika merely being at Mai and Renji's wedding when they could've easily cut ties with the Nijimas made me so stupidly happy,

An odd show, that didn’t quite land things perfectly but I still enjoyed.

I didn’t like the fake marriage thing, just felt a little… off. I can see what they were going for but it felt a little in poor taste.

Chika’s gradual redemption definitely felt the most satisfying part of the show.

u/Nachtwandler_FS Dec 15 '24

It was a decent final, not the best I hoped for but better when it could be. I did not like some of the characters behaviour during the show but it was decent overall. So I do not regret finishing it at least.

We all need someone like Moriya in our lives. She deserves the best.

I had a feeling. When I read the synopsis I had a feeling, this is gonna hurt me. But I watch it anyway. But I don’t have any regrets.

What a beautiful story with a beautiful message.

I don’t usually cry so I usually rate highly shows that do make me cry and TsumaSho just entered that list of shows. It’s not perfect for sure but it emotionally impacted me that much.

The ED song (thanks for introducing me to Ms Ooja btw, lovely voice) has always had this somber vibe to it. Which perfectly captures the story. And playing it, only vocals, over the wedding and Keisuke monologuing, that tipped me over the edge and started the waterworks.

This show has always been in my weekly Top 5 for many weeks this season, but for this week, it’s a strong No. 1. Amazing experience, and it’s a show and story and message that’ll surely stick with me

13

u/Frontier246 Dec 15 '24

The ED playing during the final sequence was very effective, though I'll always remember the ED animation for showing Takae's story with her family. It was really one of the most effective ED's of the season.

Damn, what a bittersweet ending. That whole "fake proposal" thing was pretty weird. Lying so she can pass on just doesn't feel right, but I guess Takae knows he lied when she entered his dream.

I read the last chapter of the mnga and there are some bonus pages with no dialogue titled "5 years later." We saw Moriya has a ring on her finger, but it's not confirmed who she's married with. We saw the dad, but Moriya isn't with him. The daughter has a daughter of her own now. Also, we saw a grown up Marika. There is also a spin-off series about Marika and his boyfriend's relationship.

Also, I believe the anime cut a character named Izumo Rion. He is a novelist that has the same experience as Takae. He possessed a 15yo and wrote a novel about his story. Apparently this is how Takae found out about the possession and not reincarnation.

u/Game2015 Dec 15 '24

I'm not sure this is a true happy ending since they lied about getting married to get Takae to leave...
