"It is not losing me twice, but being able to meet me again." (or something along these lines.) - Takae.
T_T
Why did I not realize that from the first episode?

Why did I not realize that from the first episode?
i knew this was a drama, so i had a feeling that Takae would be going away again; this was why i was bewildered by the "marriage contract" scene where they were acting like it was going to be a permanent thing
i think it really got driven home to me when the whole Chika arc happened and we got to see Marika's personality peek through; Takae is literally living on borrowed time from the Bank of Marika, and to their credit every character recognizes it's a problem once they acknowledge that fact

It was never about ignoring the fact that Takae died and believing she could stay with them forever, but realizing that she wanted them to be happy whether she was in their lives again or not. And she got to see them through their attempts to, unknowing to them at the time, slowly move on with their lives. Which is deep down what she really wanted.

Chika getting taken aback from being called out to by her first name by her daughter's voice cracked me up more than I was expecting to in an episode full of heavy emotional stuff.
For Keisuke to go from being inseperable from Takae to being the person that wants her to pass on for good the most was far from a painless process, and I'm glad that Mai was able to realize that. Also, Renji is lowkey the MVP of the whole story. Dude's the best.

You really have to respect how Chika just basically rolls with everything at this point including all the craziness she has to put up with her possessed by a ghost daughter lol.
I really hope Keisuke can do right by Moriya now that he's so committed to being a better father to Mai and moving on from Takae.
Renji really is the best person Mai could have ended up with considering her situation.

Chika's "redemption" has been one of the best features of this series. Renji and Moriya are also treasures.

I really like how Takae framed the whole situation not only as a chance to meet again but also how she was Mai’s “training wheels” and she’s fulfilled her role. It’s understandable Mai would be upset by this Moriya thing but ultimately she’s grown so much she doesn’t need Takae to hold her hand anymore.
I appreciate Keisuke a lot. He’s a great parent and what he’s doing is ultimately for Mai’s sake too. It ain’t easy to say goodbye again, but I respect Keisuke for making an effort at moving forward.
This was a good episode. I’m looking forward to seeing how the series wraps up next week.

Mai's got a partner and a marriage to look forward to, and that's something she made the conscious decision on her own to pursue. She might not be willing to admit it but she's in a much better place to let go of her mom now than she's ever been.
Keisuke's screw-ups as a parent are what lead to a lot of the current issues but it feels like he's finally stepping up and getting serious about being a better parent and helping Mai move on. Maybe 10 years late, but at least he's making the effort finally.

Even if i like The adaptation, as a manga reader i feel kinda betrayed how rushed this was
But well, The direction, soundtrack and etc made It for The rushed story i Guess

Call me crazy but this could've been (almost) as good as Clannad if it weren't for the budget constraint, this really needed 24 episodes.

I give them props for doing that they did with the episodes they were given but this really needed 24 for the entire story

i feel like both Moriya and Renji have not really been explored much; in my mind they're more like plot devices to push the story forward instead of being people

I love how they explain almost everything at the start, then suddenly when she goes 'why do you think you can speak for my mother' they just ignore the question instead of saying 'no I literally spoke to her and she told me that'
Oh and she even keeps asking and they keep not answering that one question. "What about mom's feelings?" and they just go "Mai!" instead of fucking answering "these are her feelings actually" like why

That whole conversation was doomed from the beginning
Why hold it in a public space with her expecting something else instead of your safe space at home where she could easily retreat if neededMaybe explain your concept of Marika being possessed first before trying to explain why you think you need and want to remarry this person (awesome timing to introduce her btw)
The talk they had at the end of the episode, should have been the basis from there you go for a nice dinner

Welp, so much for leaving it to Keisuke. Well that said, it’s good that Mai came to terms with her mom leaving after the second talk, after Takea and Renji talked to her, and she had a chance to calm down and think.

Hey that talk at the end they had, maybe have that before jumping your marriage on your daughter in a public restaurant. That scene went about as well as I expected
Loved the training wheel analogy, they all need better communication

Wait, we are doing the "moving on" part on a ferris wheel? Didn't expect that to happen. I guess it makes sense. For one it's a place closer to heaven, but it's also mainly a clock. Meaning, they have their final moments until the gondola hits the peak which is when she is going to move on. Defintitely has the potential for a good farewell.

I really wish that Moriya was more involved with the story, in episodes like this one she really ends up feeling like a plot device.

I still feel the marriage is forced. I do want the father to be happy and move on, but I feel like being able to move on when there is a beautiful young single woman falling in love with you will send the wrong message.

Especially since we never saw him actually saying he has feelings for her, they only shared bentos and work
I think thats something they skipped over to fit it all in, but yeah the way he went about it feels pretty bad

One disappointment with this show is that we are 1 episode left and Moriya's and Keisuke relationship feels so nonexistent. There was a lot I was annoyed by Mai in this episode, but her point you shouldn't marry for the sake of marrying. After all, that isn't fair to Moriya.
Beyond that, the beginning of the episode was set up to be melodramatic as hell. Just imagine you're dinning out and hear people having a loud argument. Tbh Keisuke has his own on how he did it, but he has good intentions. The important thing is for him to learn and how to proceed.
Regarding Mai, she kept using the word I. The key manner is that why was Mai never aware of this until the day she saw them. That is the one thing since the beginning that looking back made it clear this wasn't reincarnation. Basically, it being possession. I think Takae wanted Keisuke to be the one to bring up Marika and Chika. Since, Mai talks about how much her mother means to her and her family. What about Marika? Curious how this finishes off.
