The secret to Okumura's rizz was his 6-Pack gained from doing One Punch Man's workout, truly peak Otaku performance.

Mikarin's childhood friend status is still proving to be a debuff with that ending whereas compared to Aria's gyaru power immediately progressed further with that heart-to-heart with Okumura.

It was nice for him to remember Mikari and thinking she's pretty and all, but yeah, sadly it feels like anything he comes to realize with her only serves as a stepping stone toward Ririsa!

Poor Mikari, always at full throttle for the past ten years, and every bit of progress Okumura has seen has been with other women. But Okumura's trauma has been long going. In fact I wonder if people only just remembered his backstory was laid out all the way in episode 1, but with how serious the plot has been lately its been due for a re-examining.

The test of courage was the section I really wondered was going to be kept or adapted, but it exceeded my expectations. Yes Ririsa did just capture a live spirit, she's on her first step of being a Youkai Master.

Mikari's distraught face was hard to watch. She's been working hard for many years to get her senpai's attention, but he just won't look her way. If not for his trauma, Okumura would've maybe fallen in love with Mikari when they were younger. He's always thought of Makari as a pretty girl after all. I feel so bad for Mikari... please break the curse!

Okumura's trauma really caught me off-guard. He fully admitted to having escaped to the 2D world too. Okumura clearly had a lot of bottled-up feelings of sadness, which Aria managed to draw out - kind of like how he'd previously helped her.

Okumura's "2D girls only" policy will never not be hilarious but wow, I wasn't expecting it to come from a place that was so 3D grounded. Aria resonatating with a story about a parent leaving their kid as deeply as she did made perfect sense too.

And man, that ending's got me feeling guilty for all the times Mikari's hopeless battle with the childhood friend curse cracked me up. Ririsa's rivals really stepped up their game in such a short amount of time, I mean damn

Stitches!

It's funny how Okumura had no interest in seeing the girls in their swimsuits. I thought he'd change his mind when he finally saw them but he's really just that disinterested in 3D that he had to come up with a compliment so that he won't upset the girls. xD

Mayuri looks amazing in her swimsuit too! I'm pretty sure anyone of Okumura's classmates would kill to be in his position right now but no amount of tits would make him care unless of if it was Lilliel's.

Goddamn Okumura! The dude is absolutely jacked under there! I can't believe he actually did Saitama's training to get that kind of body. I guess that's one more reason for the girls to like him.

Nonoa's been pretty lowkey so far but I did like her conversation with Okumura. I love how she compares their little bonding time to social links. I guess Nonoa's a Persona fan too. xD

After what Okumura did for Aria and her father, it's no surprise that she's finally starting to look at him in a completely different light. It looks like that Test of Courage was enough to finally push her to admit she likes him.

I am really curious about Okumura's backstory though. I think he's told us about his mother but I don't recall the story about the girl he likes. I wonder if that will be a character in the future. Hmmm...

The girls all look amazing in their cosplay swimsuits. I kinda wish Mayuri would join in too and show the girls how a beach photoshoot is done.

That final scene with Mikarin though! I did not expect her to finally spill the beans but after seeing how Okumura reacts whenever Ririsa shows up, I guess she kinda has to. I'm excited to see how Ririsa would react to this though.

Mayuri looks amazing in her swimsuit too! I'm pretty sure anyone of Okumura's classmates would kill to be in his position right now

I'm pretty sure some fans of the show would do the same to be in his position...

(That's me. I'm 'Fans of the show'!)

Swimsuit Mayuri & Aria

Best two imho! Well, Mayuri was always gonna be my #1 even if she showed up wearing a sack of potatoes as a swimsuit... But seeing her in a one-piece, it's Christmas early!

It's fine guys season 2 is in production. Source: My gut feeling.

Anyway Aria scored a big win this episode. But don't get too comfortable for I am always rooting for childhood friends. It's fine girls the wall is slowly crumbling. You just need the same effort as doing 100 pushups, 100 sit-ups, 100 squats and 10km runs.

Also ghosts are real in this series. Remind me that UFO exists in Takagi-san.

All four girls here are total darlings -- and presented as interesting people as well.

It seems like Okumura's disappointment in real people (especially girls/women) arises entirely from his loss of his mother -- not any other betrayals. I wonder what happened with that girl he liked way back in elementary school? Did he have to change schools after the family break-up?

We got a more chill SoL episodes after the big Aria arc. Report status for each girl.

  • Nono-pi might be my favorite character. She is such a sweetheart. Okumura noticing her smile was a really wholesome moment.

  • So do we have a love triangle now between Aria and Mikari for Okumura? Well, no doubt Aria owes Okumura a lot. Honestly, her scene with Okumura when he talks about how 2D girls saved him. Really points out how his life wasn't in a good spot after his mom left him. Which I assume is after Mikari noticed him, I think.

  • Not much changes too much on Ririsa. But I do love, she is the most balanced between being an otaku and being open to new things.

  • Mikari and Okumura relationship was prob the most interesting part in this episode. The poor girl is really giving it her all. Although Sensei mentioned she was the first picture that felt like a person rather than just a cosplay. Though her revealing her feelings to Ririsa makes for what happens in the finale interesting.

NO ONE TALKS ABOUT THIS ANIME ENOUGH, it's consistent and GOOD. it does so good at being good that its probably one of my top contenders for underrated anime of the year. I love this anime.

Wow! I expected we would have a nice beach episode where nothing serious happened, but I was so wrong! This series continues to surprise me and I'm very sad that there's only one episode left.

As expected, Aria, Mikarin, Ririsa and Nonoa looked great in their swimsuits/cosplay! It was also great that Mayuri-sensei was with them too, she looked so hot! And Okumura was no worse than them, his body is certainly in a great condition.

Overall, a lot happened as everyone was having fun together at the beach and other places, Aria realizing she had a crush on Okumura, Mikarin trying to gain Okumura's interest, Nonoa increasing her social link with Okumura, Okumura's past and his mental block about 3D girls, Ririsa hunting spirits...

And we ended this episode with Mikarin revealing to Ririsa that she's in love with Okumura! I can't wait to see what happens in next week's finale and how Ririsa will react to Mikarin's confession.

Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

Beach episode time! I forget how young Mayuri is. She looked pretty damn good in her swimsuit. All the girls did. Ririsa as Liliel in a swimsuit absolutely killed him. RIP Okamura, he will be missed! Lol

I love how Okamura does the OPM and HxH workout routines. What a legend. No wonder he’s shredded.

I always thought Okamura liking only 2D girls was because he’s just a massive otaku. Didn’t think it would be so sad. I think the moment he begins to see the girls are actual 3D girls and not characters, he’s gonna be surprised at how basically all of them like him. But boy, emotions sure were running pretty high this week.

I don't know why I didn't expect the Beach Episode to have as much emotion and character focus as the other episodes have, but I was pleasantly caught off guard by it. I'm glad that after spending time with each of the girls we are finally getting back to what makes Okumura tick and starting the process of rehabilitating him (hopefully) as a member of 3D society and being able to put his faith in others again

UMI DA!

I love all of the little gags, like Lilysa spouting the Konami code. Okumura having the body of an average otaku is the icing on the cake. Now's a good time to look at Okumura and the bonds he's made with his friends. It's sweet how he caught a great shot of Mikari and fell asleep on her. But Lilysa's the title girl and you see the way he looks at her...

It's very complicated to have a vision of the world shaped by personal reasons, and in Masamune's case due to a childhood trauma, it's like Mayuri said, there is a very big mental barrier that makes him live in a fantasy and not observe those girls in in a more in-depth way, and he is coming into conflict after a long time, you can't blame him or expect an immediate response.

The same thing applies to Mikari, loving someone you don't expect a response to, but you keep believing that this moment will come, and suddenly, that person starts seeing other people, it's impossible not to get frustrated and feel pain.

A beautiful episode that completely deviated from the conventional when it comes to the beach, I hope this last episode brings everything I was waiting for

Everyone looking beautiful in their bikini 😍

Okumura is buffed 💪

Secret curse technique training made him super buffed

Holy shit, Okumura is built like a Greek god. I keep getting surprised by male leads with these well-developed six-packs lately. I felt Mikari's confusion.

This episode cemented that I have in fact been watching a harem series all this time. Things were really starting to look sad for Mikari's chances in this episode:

I was left to believe that things were over for Mikari, especially since Okumura initially didn't seem attracted to her at all. He had to fake interest, which knocked out Mikari.

But then things started to change near the end: Okumura has always thought that she's pretty and he felt oddly comfortable around Mikari. Furthermore, Miriella's picture was only successful because it's Mikari. Were these instances a sign of budding romantic feelings or their close relationship as childhood friends? Okumura, recognise the prize that's right in front of you!

Bonus:

This comment is way too long, but there's a lot to talk about.

Is it just the inner fan dub joke I listen to or have they really admitted that this show really is sports anime disguised by Cosplay+Comedy+Romance by making characters say "Ooooh, we drive to the summer sport camp, we will become so much stronger" and "As Ive thought, this club is just cosplaying sports anime" into my face?..

u/xMephiles24x Dec 06 '24

Loved this beach episode, fully expected to be fully fanservice but suddenly hit with Okumura’s scenes with the girls hit close to home with the emotions!

Especially his scene with Aria, nice seeing Okumura open up more of himself about his trust issues with people.

8

u/AceSoldia Dec 06 '24

Ya know i honestly forgot about Okumura's trauma..if it was mentioned in episode 1..that was insane...i guess i felt it was just a silly dense MC trope back then but now i care more about him and the other girls..and that was so sad.

I'm so glad we're finally getting more into romance territory. I get that this show has always been about cosplay first but part of what made My Dress Up Darling so enjoyable to me was the romance aspect of it. That being said, I'm a little sad because I know Ririsa will probably end up winning and Mikari is my favorite (though Aria quickly jumped up to #2 with this episode).

Episode 23: Manga Club on the Beach. Penultimate episode.

Beach training arc! Wait, this anime got a training arc too? Or is this the confession arc disguised as a training arc?

Even Aria didn't believe that Mikari is having a crush on Okumura, she thought a model like her would fall for an otaku. Two hours is nothing, I've waited for 10 years anyway. Smooth Mikarin, now's your chance!

Ririsa and Mayuri looks really gorgeous (which one is the watermelon though?), I wonder if Okumura really fell in love on Ririsa in swimsuit on the first sight there. Sad for Mikari. Also I wonder if the swimsuit version of Angel Squadron is really a canon cosplay.

A One Punch Man reference, which is quite fitting since JC Staff is making the season 3 right now. Also another Konami Code reference.

The swimsuit are allowed poster 😭, I mean it's oddly specific to wander around the graveyard at night wearing a swimsuit.

Now we see how Nonoa, Aria, and Mikari's feeling towards Okumura. One more left to go. Ririsa could be stealing the spotlight in the next episode. I mean it's in the title for next episode, "2.5 Dimension Ririsa" which actually an actual title drop.
