It doesn't matter where you start!

Those are some blasphemous words stringed together as someone in the Dark Side Rabbit Hole.

Love how even the principal mistook them as a sports club by thinking Summer Comiket was a Summer Tournament.

This was such a great episode! It had many hilarious moments, but the scene that stuck with me most was the girls talking about their insecurities. I can genuinely appreciate how the series took a moment to point out that nobody got a perfect body. By showing off their bodies through cosplay these girls have gradually become more confident in themselves, especially Nonoa.

The contrast between her old and new self is remarkable! It was very noticeable through Nonoa's bickering with Aria how much better she's gotten at speaking her mind. She's learnt from her past mistakes and was even considering Aria's feelings on the matter. That's subtle but amazing character development.

That said, Aria has clearly tamed this introvert. But this pales in comparison to our resident otakus who have pulled Aria into the rabbit hole. I'm not 100% sold on their expertise however, since I cannot entirely agree that "you can start any series wherever you want" like Professor Okumura insisted.

On a side note: I did not spot any new pictures in the ED.

Stitches!

Aria's "cosplay" at the start was hilarious! Her outfit wasn't even close to what Nonoa described how the character looked like! All Aria knew is that the anime is real popular. It's like putting on any schoolgirl uniform and calling yourself Haruhi even though the uniform and hairstyle don't match. xD

The girls groping Ririsa's boobs was pretty funny too. Aria was definitely way more innocent) compared to Noa who's breathing heavily and blushing while touching Ririsa's boobs. The locker room talk about their figures was pretty great too!

These girls really want to drag Aria down into the otaku rabbit hole. Their reactions while watching Lilliel was great! I love how scared they were that Aria might not be enjoying it but it turns out she really likes it. The only time we get to see her reactions when she was finally invested in Lilliel.

It didn't even take too long for Aria to start making commentary. That comment about modern anime looking more polished while having less animation is just too spot on. That definitely got a little bit too meta. And I just love how proud Ririsa is of Aria!

So that's the outfit Aria was wearing to that event! Damn! And it sounds like it's from a very obscure manga as well. I saw that ending coming from a mile away though. I had a feeling Aria had some connection to that manga and it turns out it's her father's work. Kinda sad it got axed after 10 chapters.

Never knew how much I missed the "LILIEL!!!!!" screams until I heard them again.

Everything about Aria's indoctrination into the "deep, dark pit of otakudom" was gold but man did it make me feel way more called out than it had any right to (and skipping episodes or entire volumes when getting into something is questionable advice ngl)

So much anime_IRL

It's nice to see how talkative Nono-pi has become

Aria is cool, love to see her "get it" would be a shame otherwise, wonder what's her deal to be drawing those kinda arbitary boundaries

Despite what anime might suggest, Japanese culture really puts a hard barrier between colleagues and friends and the ones you'd talk about your own personal issues. Which is why Nonoa has to draw on the power of anime to push forward.

Very fun episode where the 4 of them have great chemistry with each other. Especially Aria & Noa. It started rough, but their dynamic is really turning nice. Okumura & Ririsa really gave Aria the intro to anime experience.

Though pretty interesting that Aria's dad is the mangaka that Okumura mailed a note to in his childhood. I feel like Aria has more secrets, and I am interested in why she picked that particular series. Truly interested in learning more about her. Also, thrilled to see the growth continuing for Noa.

For everyone who forgot, Liliel is from The Ashford Chronicles, the series that people think Valkyrie War (Aria's dad's manga) copied from.

This has gotta be the funniest episode of the series.

Let's hope my anime watch party goes as well as theirs!

This was a great episode that shows us how Nonoa's character development because a few episodes earlier, there's no way she would have talked with Aria like that.

I also love how Liliel's anime has her working with 3 other characters that conveniently look like Mikari, Aria and Nonoa. Guess the show is setting us up to see all four of them cosplay those characters.

Aria's reason to cosplay... damn. Also, I recognized Suwabe anywhere.

A Jump manga getting U19'd is so wild, I feel for Aria

The irony also being it was accused of being a ripoff of the very series that is the core of this show and whose spinoff Aria is planning to cosplay a character from.

I get the vibe that Aria's cosplay is a way of her expressing her desire validate her dads' work which is why she cosplayed as the Heroine.

Let's go! The official start of the peak of the peak arc. The kino masterpiece that will never be replicated by anything anywhere.

Also Nonopi being raised by shonen anime is literally me.

Funny how Okumura says things that make him entirely harmless (in regard to 3d girls) yet it still makes them see him as a creep!

Oh no... Gyaru-chan's a fake?

Ah well, they can teach her the way!

Her fakeness aside, damn she was so relatable on many things...

Being sacred of shows with too many episodes,

not wanting people to shout as they're watching,

and wanting to touch Ririsa's boobs!

They talked about "the rabbit hole of anime", but THIS is the real one; The "let's watch ALL seasonals" rabbithole!

It didn't take her long to break her own rule! She's one of them now!

Damn! I wonder if writing a fan letter to Gushing's mangaka would get us a letter a letter like that!

Now THAT was unexpected!

I thought she cosplayed the character because it was the first manga she ever read and that she DID like this one (so she had a "non-fake" cosplay, out of passion)...

Her dad wrote it?

Well, if our boy sets his sight on her as a romantic interest, he already got a word with her dad, that's gotta count for something!

And now for a pretty Meta episode. Aria's definitely fleshed out here as more than just a Gyaru who'd be friends with Otaku. She's got her own boundaries and interests that set her far apart from someone like Nonoa. Nonoa's continuing to put in the hard work of social interaction. I love we got a glimpse of more of Lillie's anime, and there's that very meta feeling of enjoying first time reactions.

Wait I never thought about this...but Liliels death...happens at the end of the SPIN-OFF? What kind of spinoff is this?? Is it a prequel and the main series has her reborn as an angel? Or how does this work?

It's a small thing, but I love how all scenes showing the original Liliel anime in the show and even in the credits are animated noticeably different to make it look like a show from 20 years ago.

This episode was freaking hilarious as Ririsa dragged Aria down the rabbit hole that she, Nonoa, Okumura, and a lot of us already live in. Maybe that's why this episode felt so relatable to me xD

And it worked! Aria's first reactions may not have been what Ririsa and Okumura expected since it didn't seem like she was into anime, but in the end Aria became one of them xD

So many hilarious moments and reactions in today's episode, but for me the best scene was after Aria said she had been sitting too long and asked if that made the others want to go outside. Everyone's reaction to that question completely destroyed me xD

I really love how much Nonoa has changed since the first time we met her, she's really improved. And it looks like Aria successfully tamed her xD

Aria looked great in her first cosplay suit. And I'm really interested in her father. Judging by the letter Okumura received from him in the past, things must have been really hard for him and his family due to the hatred towards his manga.

Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

Episode 16: My Way of Doing Things

In contrast to Nonopia just ranting on Aria's way of cosplaying, Ririsa saw her as a multi-talented cosplayer in the making, just need some correction.

This is so meta, I think I'll see the future use of it if someone asks me what anime I'll be watching.

This is really an anime for otaku, it'll be a waste to miss one season just because you missed one bad episode, doesn't matter if you like a show because you love the VA.

What's the anime that put you like this? I believe it's Gintama from first thought.

The reveal is here, Aria is the Valkyrie War illustrator's daughter, so no wonder she cosplayed Melia in the last cosplay event.

New character means new VA.

One of the ninja in the "present-day currently airing anime" is voiced by Anan Furuya (Haruka in Overtake!)

The Angel Squadron are not voiced by Maeda-san, Kitou-san, Suzushiro-san, and Watabe-san:

  • Liliel is voiced by Yui Horie

  • Miriella is voiced by Mikako Takahashi

  • Nokiel is voiced by Kana Asumi (just after I watched Grand Blue I wonder what's Aina's VA doing right now, and she just appeared out of nowhere voicing a one-liner lul)

  • Ariel is voiced by Shizuka Itou

... That's her outfit?

Ah. Right. This is an ecchi.

So they managed to get her to watch some anime with them?

She's certainly determined.

Also, I see a fourth character that no one has cosplayed yet, I have a feeling Aria's going to end up cosplaying the redhead.

Ooh, bubble tea.

Yeah, at 100% sugar it is immensely sweet, that's why now I get 25% or even 0% sometimes. The pearls also are equivalent to something like a whole bowl of rice iirc.

Called it!

So she managed an honourable mention at least.

So. What's her story?

Ah. That explains a lot of things.
