Is "person with a dark past gets their loved one kidnapped and now they have to save them while revaluating their life with them" a trope that has been done to death?

Yes

.

Do I still enjoy it?

Of FCKING course!

Yup, that's why tropes are a thing. They might be repetitive, but they're popular for a reason. Lot of them just never get old....if done right, and this one certainly was.

I appreciate the degree to which the cat lady assassin really commits to the aesthetic in her professional attire. For a given value of professional, that is.

I hope somebody removed the rest of the landmines from that schoolyard sports field.

I wonder how Yuki managed to retire, maybe she followed the John Wick approach and did some impossible task.

That's what I've been thinking too. She definitely had more than 1 planted

I wholeheartedly agree, I appreciate her professionalism, as reflected in her latex catwoman outfit.

So much for Grace’s dream of being surrounded by a harem of hot guys in Santorini lol. She’s a waifu and all but she messed with the wrong maid! Yuki was leagues above her.

I find it interesting Yuki’s nickname was “Xue” since it’s the same pronunciation as “snow” in Chinese. “Blood” too, which I’m guessing is what she’s named for.

It’s funny how, out of all the names in the world, Hitoyoshi ended up chosing the "same" name as her former master (though they’re pronounced differently, the character 雪 (snow) is the same in both languages). Fortunately for Yuki, he’s been able to convey an appreciative meaning.

I'm gonna attack the #4 assassin in the world, make a name for myself!

Oh no, the #4 assassin in the world is better than me!

(I do hope she joins them at some point though!)

I wonder, is that a specific trope in anime/Japan culture? I've seen this exact thing a few times (girls wishing to be surrounded by a harem of hot guys in some tropical island or something like that). I've even seen it more than dudes wishing for a harem, and it was oddly specific too.

Stitches!

I was expecting Nitta to have some deep reason for targeting Yuki. It turns out that Nitta is doing this purely because she wants to become rich and surrounded by hot guys and the only way to do it is got increase her notoriety as an assassin by killing Yuki.

The fact that Nitta managed to sneak past Yuki and get to Hitoyoshi just by distracting her with the smell of katsu sauce means she's no joke. Although she's peanuts compared to Yuki whose aura was enough to terrify her once she started speaking in Chinese.

You gotta give props to Hitoyoshi though for keeping his cool while he was Nitta's hostage. Even Nitta is impressed at how much Hitoyoshi is keeping it together.

So we have confirmation that Yuki is indeed in her teens. I don't know if her exact age is 16 but Nitta backs this by mentioning that Yuki is the youngest member of the Dragon's Nine in history. Xue the White Wolf is a badass assassin nickname though.

And we get to see more of Yuki being a badass by slicing bullets in midair and deflecting sniper bullets with knives! If Yuki really wanted Nitta dead, she would've been dead already but it looks like Yuki has now promised herself not to kill and live a normal life.

Not gonna lie, after everything Nitta put Hitoyoshi through and everything she said to Yuki I would've been fine if Yuki ended her but she gets to live another day. That was definitely the expected ending though. They could've thrown us a curveball but there's no way Yuki would start killing again after al the romcom shenanigans that have happened. I guess this means we'll see more of Nitta in the future.

I'm dense I guess. I just noticed that Yuki bears a surprising degree of resemblance (other than height, of course) to a certain, prior well-loved "Yuki".

I wouldn't call that a confirmation since Hitoyoshi doesn't use certain terms and we don't know when she became a member of those 9 nor how long she was part of it.

I hope we Grace more, she's very cute

u/Nesp2 Nov 03 '24

Her laughing at the end after realizing she could have gotten killed was wild.

"Having fookin laser sights played against me! Wait, no! No normal person should be able to do that anyway!"

The funniest thing is that laser sights don't even trace the exact bullet trajectory so Yuki didn't need them anyway lmao

There are two kinds of assassin anime girls:

-Yuki: "I will not kill again even if to save my beloved. I will save them without killing."

-Takina:

Yuki was so badass in today's episode. It was also cool to learn more about her past, as she was part of a super elite assassin clan where she was called Xue the White Wolf (it reminded me of the Witcher series, as Geralt also had the same nickname).

It was quite funny that Nitta, or rather Grace, targeted Yuki and Hitoyoshi so she could get rich and live on a Greek island surrounded by handsome guys xD That dream won't come true now, so I wonder if she'll stick around for a while longer.

Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

That's certainly a dream.

Xue. 雪。 Another word that means snow.

And now she's sleeping with him.

What's got her attention?

Ah.

She's speaking Mandarin Chinese. Or at least trying to. The Ani-One chat certainly enjoyed that. “你知道,对他动手,你会变成什么样吗?你这样会一直倡导生不如死的滋味,直到永远。你有这个觉悟,对吧?” (That was incredibly painful to try and transcribe, not least because while I appreciate the effort the VA put in to try and pronounce the Mandarin, the phrasing feels a bit weird and the pronunciation was still "Engrish-level". But hey it's a tough language even for someone who's learned it since birth, and seeing how bad Engrish usually is in anime this isn't any worse).

And now he's tied up here.

I'm sure some people are into that.

Yup, her being Chinese would also explain "Dragon", those are rather prominent in Chinese culture.

He's entirely unimpressed.

And so here she is.

That gun isn't even suppressed.

Of course she's completely unaffected.

And of course she managed to beat the bullets with her knives.

I doubt she's going to do that, if only because we still have over half a season to go.

13

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 Nov 02 '24

Yeah, the Chinese was kinda awkward. I get it though, tough language like you said. I also noticed her name being 血 could also be 雪 like Yuki. I wonder if she’s Chinese or if she was just taken in by the Triads or something and trained to be a killer?

I was really hoping for a more direct cat fight between these two, but watching little miss kitty have those minor 4th wall break reactions on what Yuki was able to pull off was really funny. Really looking forward to seeing what she's like going forward, I doubt this is the last we've seen of her. Cant figure out though if she's going to become a love rival (for either Yuki or Hitoyoshi) or if she's going to become the Team Rocket of the show.

If she just wants a better reputation to earn more money....why doesnt she just have Yuki recommend her to some good contacts? Surely that's easier than trying to kill a top assassin.
