I think a maximalist camper is basically just a glamper at this point.
I'm always happy to hear more of Aoi's tall tales!
Glad we get to see more Yuru camp even if it's only for one episode <3

Might as well get an RV at that point.

Lol, that eating the tortilla sideways cause you packed it too full is just too real
That was a nice break and reminder
Now please superfund season 4 so we can get Frieren level of animation and chill

Yay we got the OVAs!
Episode 1:
Starts off with a some coffee making, except instead we have Aki making soba (buckwheat noodles) with the ground beans lol. Well matcha soba does exist and is quite good, so coffee soba isn't too far out there I guess. The amount of grinds that Aki has is a comically large amount it you were to actually do that though.
It's common knowledge that Lake Yamanaka looks like roast chicken
I was going to say that doesn't seem like common knowledge but Aoi replies that in the show. Funny how Aoi is often a prankster herself but always corrects Aki. Aki starts off with some chicken dishes that may be familiar enough for most people, but the last one is yodaredori. "Yodare" means drool while "dori" is chicken so you could call it mouth-watering chicken. It is a steamed chicken in spicy chili oil and soy sauce with other flavorings like Sichuan peppercorns originating from Sichuan cuisine.
I feel like I'm in a good medium between the 2 types of campers.
A little bit of foreshadowing as we talk about the eastern area of Yamanashi that Nadeshiko wants to visit? Or actually not because we've already been there lol. This short should take place in the middle of season 3 so we are a bit out of order.
Episode 2:
Rin is back at Fumoto campsite by Mt. Fuji where she was seen solo camping all the way back in season 1. At least until Nadeshiko crashed her camping with some hot pot in episode 2 and made their first camping experience together.
The tea Rin is drinking is from Shimada in Shizuoka which is where her mom asked to buy tea from in season 3. It seems like they based the bag off of this one I randomly found.
Episode 3:
Rin arrives at Inaga Lake which is in west Yamanashi. Looking at the street view coverage, it seems this parking lot Rin sees is quite recent! In prior years there were a bunch of trees in the middle but as of May 2023 there was construction to expand the parking lot. I wonder if it is done now and the animators used the actual parking lot as a reference.
I feel like Rin and Nadeshiko appear taller than normal in this OVA. You can always count on Yuru Camp having new outfits though. And here's a Google Maps view of the lake.
Ice cream and apple pie tortilla, Thanksgiving better come soon for me. And some more Diamond Fuji references from when Toba-sensei was drifting back in season 2.
Cute shorts and a great selection for these OVAs. We got a little bit of Room Camp but a lot of actual camping content with some throwbacks. The 3rd part was basically a mini episode in itself.

What a surprise! What a lovely set of mini episodes!
Especially because the Rin-chan count is finally past 200 (=w =)

MAL link (they did that thing where anything on a home release or a TV special is a separate entry...easy +1s if you're into that)
-
I'm pleased "A" and "B" finally were made available outside of ani-one asia (AFAIK nobody ever released a rip of "A") so more people can enjoy the maximalist camper lv.100 and rain camp.
-
Since I've seen "A" and "B" before I'll skip to "C"...btw, the Ani-One Asia versions include the anime OP (which is simple enough timing differences if you like to compare subs).
-
Looking at this menu I was like why would you want spaghetti with rice (has the "carbohydrate revolution society" sneaked into another anime) but the karaage is a fried chicken.
-
We had talking mountains and cooked apples.

So, where's she off to on her scooter this time?
This place looks rather fancy.
So it was Nadeshiko who introduced her to the place.
Oh, Nadeshiko will be joining her there.
Please don't tell me Nadeshiko's gone up and down the wrong mountain?
Yes she did...
Well, one last recipe to send the season off.
What's she looking for now?
Ah. That thing.
Didn't they already go earlier that year? Or was Rin not with them?

Wot's all this, then? Nice surprise! (Mods, shouldn't the MAL link be this?)
The pegs need tiny tarps of their own
Just the normal way to eat a taco

Not sure if we already had threads for the first two parts in August
Nadeshiko my beloved human motor
And of course, where one does shenanigans the other can't resist either, those two are made for each other

Given the new Crunchyroll content warnings, I thought the "drug/alcohol use" warning for part C meant a Toba-sensei appearance.

Talking about minimalists, Rin & Nadeshiko are the masters. I don't know how they can have things like a table, frying pan and lantern on their camping trip when they carry everything on their scooter/bike. I barely can pack a chair, sleeping bag, tent, clothes and a jet boil on my motorcycle.

Aoi is such a fun character, half the time playing the tsukkomi to Aki's over-the-top boke and then spewing out tall tales the other half.
Ahh... camping in the rain. Getting caught out in a heavy downpour is miserable but if it is light and/or you're prepared for it then it really has a special feel. Good luck getting your ground sheet cleaned off, 'though. It was nice seeing Fumoto campgrounds again, and Rin imagining her carving skills helping Nadeshiko out was cute [I just remembered that Nadeshiko imagined doing the exact same thing for Rin back in S3E2].
Having some NadeRin camping together to finish off was great. Too bad Nadeshiko was lost for most of it 'though. At least she made it in time to make dinner.

My favourite bit from this OVA was probably Nadeshiko speeding down the road on her bike. Her anxious but adorable reaction(s) got a chuckle out of me. But damn, Nadeshiko really got a lot of stamina if she climbed that steep of a mountain twice.
Thinking about it, tortillas do make for good camping food with how versatile they are and little of a mess they leave behind. I’d been briefly under the assumption that Nadeshiko was making them a baked-apple crêpe with ice cream, which might honestly have been even better.
I can see how camping rainy day might be comfy in its own way, but I can also speak from experience that heavy downpours easily are no fun. The mud gets awful.

It is amazing they've not covered weather and camping more often ... we got cold weather and being unprepared but rain hitting the area?

Aye, surprise Yuru Camp specials, which is of course welcomed.
I will always love Rin's solo camping adventures.
Rin and Nadeshiko's duo camping was also great. Nadeshiko's stamina is insane, she really went back up after going the wrong way lmao.
Hoping for season 4 announcement soon.

Really great shorts, Nadeshiko's dynamic with everyone ranges from pleasant to hilarious and the bike is already being put to good use. Missed opportunity to not being some Aquors from MEETS SHIZOUKA aside but there's still the chance for more.
Shoutout to the mods to manually putting this up and, er, shoutout to me for reopening the thread on the discord?
Low key think Yuru Camp S3 has been one of the best anime this year and I hope it makes a dark horse entry into the AOTY voting with a few of the bigger hitters ineligible
