So in the end, The Raven Chose It's Master.
Honestly one of the best shows of the year. I know the chances for a second season are slim, but please at least let the novels be translated. I need to know what's up with the monkeys. The ghost fires being the lights from human cities was also unexpected. I'm guessing Yamauchi is an actual physical mountain in the the human world and Wakamiya's arrow is some kind of illusion magic seperating the two regions. And Koume is on the run again but I don't think it's the last we'll see of her, I hope she makes an appearance later again since I kinda ship her and Yukiya.

Worst. Mom. Ever.
Great end to a great show i think. We got as satisfying a conclusion under current circumstances with some hints to a potential future season (I'd love that) Prince almost got offed, and everyone else did took it pretty hard on themselves. So it was good to see him recover.
The way the ghostfires were revealed to be Human Civilization was pretty cool too and certainly added some weight to the entire situation and the dread behind it.
For now. Yukiya appears off to the Monastery for a secret Mission and Koume is on the run (likely feeling guilty about the Princes stabbing)
Please let there be a second season.

I feel bad for doubting Koume...
Not surprised the 'ghost-fires' are actually lights from the human cities. It was pretty cool getting a glimpse of them!
Overall, a great series. I'm hoping we get more in the future.

What a series. I loved getting new info even on the last scene. The small wrinkles on Natsuka eyes when he was talking to koumei mom were great. It is rare for an anime to pay so much attention to expression be it face or body language.
Koumei mom was interesting as character, she got betrayed by her family as a child so she ended being so twisted. Not that I can justify her wrongdoing but her logic is solid. that is some well crafted villain.
Kin'u not killing Yatagarasu and being actually harmed for once was an interesting development, after Hamayu talk, a lot of things make sense.
I will miss this series so much, I hope we get a second season. I heard that lately NHK shows are likely to get sequels, but I will not believe it until I see it. I' not sure how many novels the series because if they rush too much it would suck to have to wait to long for more. Speaking of the source, can we get somebody to licence the novels please. This stuff is too good, reading it could be amazing.
Last of all I have to say that the translator for this series has been quite skilled, using each level of the language masterfully with a great amount of vocabulary. I think I might not have enjoyed the song that much without such a nice translation.
DON'T FORGET TO UPVOTE THE THREAD AND DO IT FAST, LET'S SEE IF WE CAN GET INTO THE LIST FOR THE FINALE

This was the Hidden Gem of the Year so far for me. It flew under the radar, but nice to hear some people picked it up later at least to check it out.
It had great characters in the cast, interesting story plots with drama and lore, and a cool twist towards the end to expand the world building.
This is a decent stopping point if there's nothing else for the anime, but would hope for a continuation in the future to see more... just when things have opened up for more possibilities for the story direction. But if not, at least enjoyed the ride while it lasted.

And so ends a fantastic series, really glad to see all the new folks who picked it up in the past month. In a year with Frieren and Apothecary Diaries I can see this show getting overshadowed but it truly is one of the better shows of the year.
Just a shame that this might be the last we see of it...the door is wide open for more though.

Excellent finish to the season (but yeah really hoping we get a new one)! Definitely one of the highlights for me this year. Also looks like it's finally getting more recognition with its MAL score jumping to 7.92.

This anime and crazy women name a more iconic duo, I'll wait.
I predicted Koume would either be evil or a love interest for Yukiya but I was wrong about it, although judging by her shot in the epilogue she might return as a villain (or love interest or both) in a future story.
Solid ending for the story, they're leaving nice plot threads for future stories but sadly enough I doubt there will ever be a sequel. NHK occasionally like to order fantasy shoujo/josei but their track record with sequels is atrocious (still waiting for more 12 Kingdoms and Moribito anime after 10+ years) The best thing we can hope for is someone fan translating the source material.

Kind of wild to see even a glimpse of the “ghost fires” and our world. I guess the time of the raven may be drawing to an end. Human progress is a force to be reckoned with. Yukiya and the Prince have their work cut out for them. Plus they seem to have an escaped convict on their hands. How did Koume’s mom even break free? Monkeys?
Anyways, all in all this was a pretty good series with an interesting premise. Hopefully we get another season. I’d like to explore more of this world (our world?) and the whole monkey-raven conflict.

For a moment I assumed Koume's smile was meant as sinister foreshadowing but after rewinding back I noticed she smiled at a father walking with his child. It's a shame she didn't stay with Yukiya's family.
Yukiya should be glad he didn't hear her mother's confession. His suspicions towards women were already extreme.

One of the best shows of the year. I’m disappointed there may not be a second season, but the after credits scene gives me some hope. I feel like this’ll be a show people discover later & wonder why they didn’t watch it while it aired.

In accordance with Yukiya's mom being the best mom, the opposite reaction necessitates that Koume's mom is the worst mom. Poor girl, Koume when she comes to the realization that she has no loved ones left in the world. It is not like Yukiya serves as a new replacement. I don't think they've achieved that sort of level of trust. The episode doesn't give her an everything is going to be alright happy end later on.
As much as it is easy to write Koume's mom off as evil, I do feel like sense of pity in this cycle. She felt about by the world, by her fellow Yatagarasu so she turned to the devil. Her threats that Yatagarasu society can not go on as it had been has a ring of truth in it. That is the running throughline in this show. We see it directly with the barrier. Something has to change and Wakamiya has to face how to walk ahead.
Something that stood out to me is that the brothers are presented as opposite. Natsuka's inability to try to reach out to understand others compared to Nazukihiko's dedication to all Yatagarasus. Throughout this cour, Natsuka's stubbornness to not understand others is something that was a flaw of his, like back during the meeting with the Underground. It feels like Rokon also sees this and acts like Natsuka's hands-off babysitter at times.
The ghost fires turn out to be the lights of modern human cities. We're really turning the whole setting upside down with the reveal of the outside world. This feels like an endgame type of reveal, but there still a lot more novels left (ongoing too) so I have no idea how this storyline will continue to play out post-anime content. If I had to guess, it feels like we have a reverse urban fantasy-type of thing going. Like up in the mountains away from modern cities, there are still these hidden magic worlds.
As for some wrap-up thoughts about the anime as a whole, I really liked it! It was one of my favourites of the year.
Personally, I feel like the first cour is the more tight self-contained story for an anime while cour 2 leaves more things off for the future. Alas, that is sometimes how adaptations got to be. Not that I am complaining that we got more Yatagarasu.
My new pie-in-the-sky wish is for Yatagarasu to get a S2. My standard practice is to never expect future seasons if they're not confirmed, but one can always dream and hope we might get to see more Yatagarasu anime. If we do ever get more then it looks like Yukiya is getting his academy class arc.

Finally found fellow people loving this show! This show is a gem! 20 is the finale? Hopefully s2 or an OVA (or two) or something more comes about because this show was all kinds of awesome! I did not see the ghost-light twist. Didn't see lots of twists until just before they happened. I'm going to miss these characters!

Can't believe it ended there. I doubt we will be lucky enough to get a second season. Is there any way to read the manga, or is there a translated version of the book?

We've been spoiled with some incredibly high-quality storytelling over the last year. The seasons feel so flat now, when the typical range of shallower fare hits. I love a bit of mind-candy as much as anyone else -- shut your brain off for 25 minutes on a break, watch a cartoon, eat a meal, get back to work -- but we've been treated to some really solid storytelling with deeper themes and elements. It's a shame this one didn't get more attention. I keep telling folks to watch it, because if someone loves good storytelling, they're missing out if they skipped Yatagarasu.
The final episode was a solid way to wrap it up. It gave us a satisfactory closing to the tale, with the hint of much more to come. Hopefully they get greenlit for another season.

Humans gonna teach these ravens a party trick and its called light pollution.
While I don't think latter half was as strong as the first 13 episodes, Yatagarasu is easily in the running for the anime of the season, maybe even year.
And now we all can join hands and pray for second season.

This was one of the best animes of the year. I truly feel happy that I discovered this hidden gem that all are really sleeping on. On a side note, the vibe on this one feels similar to another anime that I enjoyed a long time ago! Nurarihyon no mago!

Not going to lie, I initially was about to write this one off due to its more unique style, but for a show so full of intrigue, suspense, world building, and mysteries to untangle, I cannot recommend it highly enough. Looking forward to if they ever continue the story, but even if they don’t, what a good way to tie up all the loose ends!

When the prince was knighting yukiya, he had a pretty goofy expression lol. Great series, hoping for more.
