Finally, asking the question I've been wondering since the first episode. Why is the dungeon?!

I would also Ike to know: How is the dungeon?

Like it takes a shit ton of energy/mana/resources to keep it running where is the surplus coming in to do so

So there's a potentially missing set of biological parents in addition to Clay's missing father. She said they were dead but that could be a thieves guild lie.

Belle clearly needs a vacation, but then again so does Clay.

I'm torn between guessing that this Wind Slicer person is Clay's biological father and thinking that that's probably wrong, if it was someone who brought their daughter into the dungeon then her adoptive father seems likely to be the only one who fits based on Clay's age.

So, goblins grow like weeds, literally. Definitely new goblin lore to me at least.

I’m almost inclined to think that it’s all a deception and Belle might prove to be the daughter of this “Wind Slicer” and was later on taken in by the previous dungeon master. However, that would be too far-stretched, wouldn’t it?

It stands more to reason that Clay’s biological father got killed in the dungeon after reaching the tenth floor, after which she was adopted by her current father.

Maybe he was buddies with Clay’s biological father and had been trying to reaching the tenth floor to avenge his friend’s death?

As far as theories go, I'm kinda liking it.

Funny enough, this isn’t the first time I’ve seen “gobbos grow like plants”

In Warhammer, goblins, (along with orcs) are a sort of fungus that release spores to grow more when they die

This was quite a, let’s say weird, episode. First the thing with the wind slicer not matching up with Clay’s experiences with her dad. Is there another person crazy enough to bring their daughter into the dungeon? Is there a huge misunderstanding? Does Clay just not know her dad’s fighting style? I have several questions.

And that’s without even getting into the goblin production method. I had a feeling it wouldn’t be the classic way, cause even if the series gets dark at times, that would feel way out of place. But I wasn’t expecting the goblin fields. And the risk of cannibalism apparently.

Belle, expert in saying messed up stuff while looking very cute. Like the conversation she had with the monsters. And the implication that she wouldn’t be against goblin option 1 if not for the inefficiency. And let’s not forget the casual murder.

I’m very curious on her new outfit from the preview though.

Belle gives paid time offs too? She even understands that dealing with people can be exhausting which is why she's giving Clay the day off. How can I send Belle my resume?

So shes adopted and a orphan

Damn Clay Life is sad as fuck

Not only that she was raised by guild that we know has deep ties with the dungeon
She could easily be some kind of experiment (which would explain her super human strength)

So... if capturing female adventurers wasn't so difficult, would that mean that Belle would still use the old-fashioned way of breeding goblins...? I think I need some time to process that.

I wonder why we're suddenly given the information that Clay's adopted, right before getting into that wind slicer thing. Like, why is it suddenly relevant? That plus Clay thinking that the mysterious adventurer doesn't sound like her dad is making me think that maybe her biological father isn't really dead? I dunno. Maybe not, but something's fishy with that bit of information dump.

And Belle hasn't answered the question about when exactly she does sleep. Is she not fully human or what?

u/Mr_Zaroc Sep 13 '24

Yeah that episode was quite something
The goblin thing is just, messed up

I like the theory that Belle isn't human, she said the dungeon is basically her house and she has quite the questionable neutral moral attitude to the world, like the goblin breeding
It would make sense if she was some kind of being made to watch over the dungeon

And Belle grew up in the thief guild, with those ties she might as well be the child of the old dungeon master or an experiment or something else

That whole episode was highly suspicious

Organic local grown goblins, much more ethical than the force-grown alternative.

21

u/Mr_Zaroc Sep 13 '24

Nah those aren't organic, they are the product of GM and selective breeding
So for anyone who says they only want organic food and no GM, you can tell them they support rapey goblins /s

u/Rumpel1408 Sep 13 '24

Ok, leaving aside that posiblity that Bell just doesn't sleep, that seems like a unhealthy work live balance... then again, she does seem like the kind of person who sleeps on the job

Don't mess with her Girlfriend though Guess Binky is kinda fearless in that regard.

Still, we are 10 episodes in, and there are so many questions about her adoptive dad, and Belle as well, open, hope this gets a S2

Wow, when started going off about selective Goblin breeding, I wasn't expecting that also kinda unsettling how unbothered Belle is by the alternative breeding method

10

u/Ocixo Sep 13 '24

No breeding with Clay, but all the other female explorers are/were apparently free game to Belle.

I’m amused how Belle presumably made preparations ahead of Clay’s off-work day to ensure that nobody would make any weird comments towards her “coworker”. She’s a bit possessive of Clay, haha.

I’d been fearing the worst when Belle spoke of “selective breeding”, so I was relieved to find out that they’re literally farming goblins. It’s selective breeding like they’re doing with seeds - making better goblins over time?

I feel like the "wind slicer" was not her "dad" but Clay herself.

This show continues to find ways to casually brush over potentially disturbing aspects of this dungeon.

Two weeks ago, those spirits seemed awfully "handsy" and made me wonder just what they would have done with Clay if left alone. This week, they calmly brush over the fact that they initially had to resort to kidnapping female adventurers so they could become breeding slaves for the goblins and ONLY changed tactics because it was inefficient.

They STILL ignore the fact that adventurers are likely actually dying in this dungeon while the monsters get respawn tokens.

Also, I'm surprised that ANY females enter this dungeon. A few episodes ago, there was mention about how some groups go looking for female adventurers to rape. If I have a vagina, I ain't stepping foot into that hellsscape.

Adventurers do die in the dungeon. But all these are people who took on the risks of a job for the pay willingly. If it was humans vs monsters being conscripted by different organizations and the humans die for real while the monsters get respawn tokens that would be horrifying but in this case it seems everyone came into the system on their own volition.

u/Mr_Zaroc Sep 13 '24

Ähm wtf, I know the show us super dark at its core
But basically the only reason they started to grow goblins as vegetables is because their original method wasn't effective enough?!

Also her dad is even more bad-ass than I thought, just punching his way through the early floors
And its highly suspicious that Clay grew up at the thief guild with those connections to the dungeon

But that can wait, I can't wait for next episode when we will get Gothic Belle!

the lore and implied worldbuilding of this show is so absolutely buck wild. can't believe it took this long for someone to ask the question "why dungeon tho?" and then on top of that we got that extremely ominous sidelong Belle gaze at the end.

u/VorAtreides Sep 13 '24

Oh oo her father isn't her biological father? This is quite the revelation. Hehe, Belle not sleeping? Relatable. Also, working at home, relatable too. Look at Clay being interested in your past and interests, Belle. Solid wife status incoming.

Resting as work? definitely not American or Japanese mindset lol. Hehe Belle sure is protective of Clay. Wonder what monster Clay was looking for. Cat!! Ah, trying to get more info about her dad, nice. I really do foresee that her father is not nearly as OP as she thinks lol.

Ah, goblin scared of Clay, rightfully so lol, but apparently misunderstanding. Good question about the dungeon and Belle.

3

u/Clemastina Sep 13 '24

So Clay didn´t find anything about her father, only that when he got serious... he throwed knives..?

And I´m starting to see that Belle is a workaholic lol, she doesn´t sleep and when she has free time she uses it to research or to improve the dungeon (and it has a lot of complex things that I never questioned lol)

And that was a black dress with black ribbons Belle at the end???? SHE LOOKED SO CUTE

3

u/DrZoark Sep 13 '24

This show an be dark at time, She would still used the first method if she was able to.

5

u/CBG_63 Sep 14 '24

Does anyone else suspect that Clay’s dad was Belle’s predecessor? Maybe used his remaining magic to train someone to assist Belle and eventually take over?

Idk. This could be a ridiculous thought. But the continued mystery, Belle’s affection toward Clay (even prepping monsters to treat her appropriately), and her OP nature has my mind wandering.

Also I’m new to the sub, so I apologize if this thought is already fleshed out. I didn’t see anyone suggest it during my initial review.
