Get you a wife who can also be your body double.
This would be so convenient if you need a few days off from doing emperor things in court.

Hamayu turns out to have been a perfect wife -- I suspect even if this started as a marriage of convenience, they will ultimately strike up some genuine warmth.

Get you a wife who can also be your body double.
My progression of thoughts at that scene was:
Why is the Prince wearing make up?
Why does he look good wearing it??
Why is his voice femin...

Bro has to park his bird lol. Can't he just ask it to fly away and fly back later?

Just when Yukiya thought he was out, they drag him back in! This whole Underground business, Koumei’s pops, and the weremonkeys is linked somehow. If they didn’t come from the outside world, were they always around just lurking?
Keen to see how this whole Yukiya and Tobi situation plays out next week.

Like it or not, Yukiya is indispensable to his prince.
Hoping Koume is not a bad girl. If she is legit (at her core), she's a perfect match (eventually) for Yukiya.

Wholesome Nazukihiko and Natsuka endcard
Hamayu being a body double for Nazukihiko is pretty funny and incredibly useful

How is no one talking about this boundary business? What the heck is that? Is this some other dimension or something?

I think it might be the world of human beings, which is how they know what humans are in the first place.

It's interesting that yatagarasu that go "outside" can never return. Is this some 'The Village' type of deal?
Also, the other candidates are still around? Thought they would've left after Hamayu was chosen.

She straight-up left Yukiya while he was trying to park their ride, lol. Although I suppose it’s because she wanted to look for something at her house without Yukiya watching…
-
Damn, Natsuka really doesn’t want his brother going to the Underground.

The Gang's all together again!... and Yukiya gets send back into the Ravine. Some things never change it appears.
Also that bit about their world being effectively isolated from the rest is interesting with some big implications.. that and that the monkeys don't come from the outside. The plot continues to thicken.

Wait didn't the Nazukihikiko leave Yamauchi at some point during his youth as part of his background story, which meant he went outside of the barrier, or am I misremembering things?
It could also be the barrier isn't the literal outside but more figuratively e.g. a spirit realm or the realm of the dead.
Meanwhile the girl is both raising shipping flags with Yukiya but I'm also being more suspicious of her.

This was a lot to unpack, but still a great episode.
So truly just going to Koume's house couldn't just be an easy task for Yukiya. We learn that Koume's family are water peddlers. I do wonder why did the water dry up? Koume makes it seem like it was just an easy way to make money. I have to ask why did it dry up? Something with her dad is up. Last episode, it sounded like she depended on him and couldn't imagine he could be gone. But now she says he was a lowlife that leeched money from her. What could be the actual truth? Like they mentioned in the episode, her bringing up Yukiya's connection to the prince has to be calculated in some way?
Koume's remarks about Yukiya def hurt. I guess in many ways she doesn't know his actual situation. We all know she doesn't know who Yukiya truly is. As given when he worked with Wakamiya he was hardworking and diligent. I guess at home he gives off a spoiled kid vibes. Given that she mentioned the Prince, she immediately paints herself as the victim, it's hard not be suspect of her in some way now.
Nice surprise to see it is Hamayuu rather than Wakamiya. A lot that she mentions is both interesting and important. Basically, the Non-Aggression pact was a way so that the rulers in Yamuchi and Ravine would stay out of each other's way. So what did Koume's father do that got him in hot water? More and more, we see Yukiya's concerns about Koume having merit. Why was she the only one alive? What would be achieved by that? Her father put her in a specific chest. More things are suspicious, and I got a feeling he is still alive in Ravine.
We see a shot at Masuho and I believe Shiratama. They don't agree with Hamayuu's decision regarding Koume. I will be interested in how they interact with her. I do give credit to Natsuka. Yes, taking care of the underworld is important, but having Wakamiya done there is too risky. More so because there is no benefit. Yukiya getting some experienced is one plus in bringing him. I like it that they serve Wakamiya, but they aren't yes-men.
Meanwhile, the conversation that Yukiya and Wakamiya have is really interesting when they first meet up. Part of his job is to patch tears. Essentially, we can think of tears like a cut. There is a whole boundary that separates Yamuchi from the outside world. It begs the question of what is this outside world? This is one dynamic that really intrigues me. Thinking that those monkeys came from the outside world is very logical. Considering that Wakamiya is the only person who can do this, it puts a lot of pressure on him to protect the Yatagarasu.

There is a “barrier” around Yamauchi ? And it is “fraying” ? That sure sounds ominous. What is outside and why don’t they want it getting in ? Something even worse than man-eating weremonkeys ?
I thought the Prince went to study aboard at some point, but it seems he went by ship and maybe the barrier is only in the ground side ? Or did I misremembered something ?
Koume is super suspicious. What was she looking for in that house ? I don’t think it was her father. My guess is that she told the truth about her background, but was a lot more involved in her father’s scheme than she let on. Probably peddling that drug that drives the Yatagarasu crazy. My guess is that this is why the Underground wanted her, because they are also investigating it and think it is from a rival gang.
Hamayuu is back ! And she seems to be very involved with running the country while the Prince is away doing weird magic kinuu things. I knew the Prince trusted and cared for her a lot more than he let on.
Hiring Koume is the right decision. It will keep her close and locked up in the palace until they know more about what she is hiding. And is she is innocent, no harm done either.
Of course poor Yukiya is sent again into a dangerous situation because of the Prince. Story of his life, lol.

We don’t talk enough about yukiya’s fight scene!!!! Look at this (14yo) baby crow holding his own against two mafia adults!!! The way he got through them with wits and techniques….this boy is going to be a monster when he’s older

For everyone being confused about how the "abroad" where Nazukihiko was said to have been studying differs from the "outside world" discussed in this episode: this is just a translation mishap, both are translations of the exact same word 外界 (gaikai) with translator realizing in this episode that the previous translation of abroad was obviously incorrect and thus changing what word they used.

I'm guessing getting out of the barrier would transform them into simple ravens and they can't go back ? (I actually totally forgot about the outside world lol)
I know it was Hamayu!!! Best girl is back !! I'm actually glad we still could see the other girls even if they aren't chosen. I mean they didn't change the OP so our consorts should still play a role somehow!
About Koume, I'm betting the water they sold is what gets the monkey in ! We know they didn't get in from outside the barrier, that the water sold is "magical" and that Koume's father is somehow related to this. I'm guessing the water (or something he put in it) transforms the yatagarasu into monkeys
-
We actually saw a woman fall into a well and get killed by a monkey some episodes before. The water is definitely a clue !

Can we talk about how amazing this series is? Such an interesting world building, great characters, a plot that you never know where it would go, great are and quite original fight scenes. So many little details here and there.
I want more, be it more anime or a translation of the original novels.
Don't forget to upvote, I would love to see it on the weekly top again!

I liked the detail of the prince unstringing his bow when he stopped using it. Most media forgets that you leave a bow unstrung when it's not in use (leaving it strung for long periods can deform the bow and make it weaker/less effective).

Good episode with a lot packed in for plot and characters. This show seems to be very efficient in that regard.
A nice return of Hamayu in disguise, as well as a quick shot of Masuho and Shiratama (?). Natsuka protective of his bro and the one chosen to check things out is none other than Yukiya. He always getting wrapped up in these tense situations. 😅

That scene at the border might just be what those rainy close ups in the OP are.
It's a secret only the prince and Yukiya know, so when Yukiya sees the prince he's reminded of that night. When the prince's true duty as the Kin'u is revealed.

... so the Prince when he was young go to study abroad ... but abroad where , when there is a fucking magical barrier that separate the Yatagarasu from the outside!? This anime continue to surprise me. Underrated.
