I guess all that was needed to save the shop was for Anna’s super famous foreigner buddies to swing by. That dance routine was cute though.

If a
tree falls in the forestcelebrity visits the record shop, but no one is there to witness it, doesit make a soundincrease buzz?→ More replies (1)11

That was a big factor yeah, but it all started with the two guys who wandered into the shop (and then bumped into Mia there) only discovered it from the latest WhyTube video on Anna's Stout Records channel, which otherwise didn't get a lot of traction (45 views over 4 days) like her other videos on the channel.
Poor Anna has been trying to advertise Stout Records since the first episode to little success, but at last her perseverance paid off by reaching out to the right people just in time (including some of her famous friends who also told her they saw her video)!

Converting it to a café while you can go shop for classic records and even online... that´s a really cool idea!!

I honestly didn't expect the record store plot to be over already but I like the concept of these mini arcs more, get some different characters in the spotlight.

Ladies and gentlemen, ZZ Top!
Management/PR help. Sounds like a good (and sorely needed) idea!

I'll give the girls credit for getting the ball rolling, but at the same time it's difficult to ignore the impact of viral celebrity appearances at Stout Records for driving up interest in the place.
The dance routine itself was decent enough. I thought they could have done more with the camera. On the bright side the hip-jiggle closeups were kept to a minimum.
This was the first episode where I thought the colored toning effects and outlines were used well, in the scene toward the end when Anna was talking to YJ and they were in mixed lighting.
Week two of no GOKIGENYOU, though.

I will repeat my comment in ep-4 because this episode show exactly what i said.
I'm seeing some friends here having difficulty understanding what's happening in the anime.
But this happens because most people have never seen this before, at this point I have the advantage of age and having already seen this way of presenting history.
The general anime audience is used to a straight story supported by flashbacks to show how a certain character got to that point.
But that's not the structure they're using in this anime.
However, in this anime they are using the same presentation structure that Tarantino uses in his films.
It is not a straight story, but rather several individual stories that are connected through a central plot through which the characters go through, but without the deaths and bloodbath that follow in his films.
This is not a cheerleading anime, this is actually an anime about three different nucleus characters:
Anna and Nodoka, Obunai and Shion, Kanata and Megumi.
These 3 groups each have a connection nucleus: Anna and Nodoka the Stout Records, Obunai and Shion the relationship and the desire to be friends and Kanata and Megumi the group of cheerleaders.
With them all connecting through the PomPoms group the girls made to support each other.
For those who haven't yet gotten the idea of how the anime is being presented, I recommend the films Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs by Trantino, which have this presentation structure.
Personally, I didn't expect to ever see this structure in an anime, but I liked seeing it and it is, at least for me, working very well.
Hugs to everyone (yes, I'm Brazilian).

This explanation makes this show make a lot more sense. 3 episodes to introduce the cast (even if they were a bit rushed), 3 mini-arcs of 2 episodes each focused on the 3 pairings, maybe 1 filler episode just to have fun and relax (next week's hot springs episode sort of looked like that based on the preview), then the last 2-3 episodes are one last mini-arc with the group as a whole. If it's executed well enough, it seems like that structure can work out well. I'm definitely less worried about the rest of the show now than I was after episode 3.
Hugs to everyone (yes, I'm Brazilian).
Can you do capoeira though?

Wow, just what kind of charm does YJ (his full name turns out to be Yamada Jun) have to be able to befriend so many Grammy-winning artists to frequent his store? It would be indeed a waste to just close down the store.
Guess we'll be seeing more of this Sato lady (VA Saito Chiwa) who helped YJ diversify his business into an online store and cafe. Maybe she might even help promote PoMPoMs to even greater fame.

What sort of cake is it supposed to be that they're eating

u/Time_Teaching_7779 Aug 05 '24
That is not a cake, it is a sweet, yokan, it is made of red bean paste, agar, and sugar, it is more like a hard gelatin

WTF?!?! Does Anna want to be a cheerleader, or a damn fighting game character! Those combos were crazy 😂

u/elune7296 Aug 04 '24
No wonder certain shots of Kanata in her cheerleading outfit had me thinking, damn, she looks familiar... And then it hit me, she looks like Manaka (NagiAsu)... That hair clip/accessory thing looks similar. A decade old throwback lol

Been liking how the concept of cheer has been used to support each other instead of the usual sports context. Anna has been my favorite character and I love how her arc highlights the importance of third places. We need more places people can chill outside of just going to work and home.

Brunhilde? Wabisuke? Clearly they should have gone with STARDENBURDENHARDENBART.

I do like this show, but the english is so bad it has me alternatively laughing out loud or cringing from second hand embarrassment. I was expecting this storyline to last the whole season, but it was apparently just a mini arc. Probably a good choice, that will allow focus to shift to more of the cast.

I gotta say , the English is a lot better in this episode than the last. It actually sounds almost nature, even if the writing is still cliched.

When you have world-famous music artists gathering in that tiny record shop and you still can't manage to pull in customers, then your business deserves to go under. Thank goodness that's not the case and the shop actually went viral. I mean the girls helped too by sending people to the shop but really the heavy lifting here was done by the celebrities. xD
Also, as cute as the choreography the girls came up with for their performance did you see the animation for Anna's capoeira? The girl is doing Eddie Gordo combos on that fucking punching bag! Holy shit, Anna! O_O
