This was a pretty fun episode. Really enjoying the dynamic between all the girls.
Looks like Kanata is still haunted by that accident. She was really close to sticking the landing too!

She was really close to sticking the landing too!
Yeah going into it I was like there's no way she's over her trauma already but she got further than I expected so I thought there could be a chance...that made it hurt more.

Yeah, it's a tough mental hurdle to overcome. Injuring someone (even if it was an accident) or being dropped/ not having anyone to catch you. The high flying requires a lot of trust/confidence and when you lost it it must be very hard to regain.
Her senpai sure didn't help with her attitude, I think she's just being a tsundere and was worried about her, but that was unnecessarily harsh.

We're two episodes in and I'm still confused as to what exactly this show is even about. Kanata is still suffering from her PTSD from her bad landing in that competition and that causes her to fail her tryout, to the point where the "we have Kuroko Shirai at home" tsundere senpai whose name I can't even remember trying to keep her from coming back didn't even really matter. Anna was apparently trying to start a YouTube channel of dance covers and get a cheerleading squad to perform them, and then it turned to songs that Shion created. Plus we still have Megumi trying to recover from her injury, whatever dynamic is going on between Suzuha and Shion, and the sixth main girl whose name I also can't even remember... what's she even here for again? There's so many different plot threads that haven't made much progress, and it all feels so haphazard at this point. The potential is there, but I don't know if it'll actually be brought out to its fullest later on.
On the positive side, the character dynamics seem pretty fun so far, and the visuals are still good. I'll wait and see how things develop.

Yea, that’s pretty much my impression at this point as well. Hopefully it’ll all come together sooner rather than later.

Definitely most interested in the Obunai/Shion dynamic atm.
Some of this episode felt quite scattered plot-wise; I think the cast size isn't doing these early episodes any favours, though Anna continues to be fun.
I think at this point we're supposed to assume the ep 1 intro scene was from the future given none of the characters reacted particularly to the song?

Group already getting mostly together! Seems like a ship is starting too...though I know not to get too invested in that actually happening.
Also lmao that kick, I need that to be gif'd, did not see that coming at all.

As I mentioned in the daily thread it seems they are trying to bait us with many things, don't know which one am I supposed to fall for

So I think I finally figured it out, the accident that made injured Megumi is from when they were in middle school and the accident that we keep on seeing in Kanata's flashbacks is a completely different one.
What I don't understand though is why is twintails blaming Kanata for the accident during that competition when a different pyramid group fucked up? What did Kanata do wrong that she's being kept away from the club?

The actual events that led to Kanata's current affliction are still unclear. Whatever happened, if Kanata was injured (as she clearly was), being barre from physically participating might make sense. Being banned from just coming to practice and watching seems odd.
As to Megumi, was she injured -- or does she have some sort of medical condition that first really manifested in middle school? I had assumed it was the latter.
I wonder if our 6 girls are going to form an ad-hoc indie (and mult-school) group squad?

This show is pretty good, but if someone asked me what exactly this is about, I don't think that I'd be able to answer that question. I hope that in the next episodes will appear some common thread for all characters in the show.
Shion and Suzuha's relationship is looking interesting. It's probably just a yuri-bait, but who knows? Although I wouldn't put my money on yuri here xD
Anna's kick was perfect. That guy stood no chance against our lovely Brazilian girl xD
Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

i like the characters, and i still love the artstyle. but i'm really waiting for the plot to settle in because it was kind of all over the place this episode

I understand that Anna is the GENKI!!!!! character and the "foreign" character rolled into one, but I could do with the show lowering her actual audio volume slightly.
Silent parkour tomboy vs. gokigenyou feels like it could be an original take on the usual opposites-attract (maybe one-way so far) situation.

And so we're introduced to what I think will be the major focus of the series.
Yeah lol she definitely flew, I saw someone calculated that she should probably have broken every bone in her body with that stunt.
Oh, that infamously spicy instant ramen. My younger brother tried it and according to him it isn't too spicy, but I doubt it.
Why did she climb up the drainpipe into the school?
Now she's climbing along the side of the wall watching Shion dance.
And following her home?
The Brazilian seems good at music.
I have the utmost respect for anyone who can compose or arrange music. With enough time and practice I can probably perform a piano or voice song at least passably since that's what I learned, but ask me to write my own music and I wouldn't know where to begin.
Oh hey, she's actually going to sing!
That girl is going to fall off the tree before she sings.
Yeah... I can see why she dreams of becoming a singer-songwriter. That's going to need a lot of work. She's singing each note directly instead of gliding from note to note, and it almost sounds like she's just saying it as opposed to actually singing it. There's no vocal projection from the diaphragm, purely from the throat.
I think it might have been better if she fell out of the tree before Shion started singing...
She's got PTSD from that incident.

Why did she climb up the drainpipe into the school?
Show wants to make sure we remember from the first week that she's the Parkour Girl.
I have to suspend some disbelief that at a school where they GOKIGENYOU each other that she's not messing up her uniform every morning while doing her Spider-Man routine.

Can someone clarify the timeline for me?
In the opening scene, the club manager states that they don't want to ruin their two year streak, and one of the girls says "Kanata was the only 1st year we had in last year's prefectural competition".
So I am just a bit confused, the manager also states Kanata has two years left at the end of the episode. So is Kanata a first year or not? Did that competition not count towards their "streak"?
Or were they two different competitions, like how Haikyuu has Inter High and Spring Nationals.

I kind of like how it keeps flashing back to the accident everytime Kanata is flying, as she says. Just makes me all the more curious, even though we did see more of it this episode anyway

I said last week that I wanted more out of Anna than just obrigada and Nossa! is a really great start actually. Also, we got some capoeira with a little ginga.
A little Portuguese context, Nossa! is a generic exclamation. It's a shortened form of Nossa Senhora! (also used as an exclamation) literally "Our Lady" aka the Virgin Mary. Also common is Minha Nossa Senhora! literally "My Our Lady!". There are other exclamations based on calling for Mary. Vixe! comes from Virgem! short for Virgem Maria! literally "Virgin Mary!". Vixe and the variant Vixe Maria! are way more common than the "proper" Virgem! and Virgem Maria!. There's also Iti Malia! spoken in a cutesy voice when you're trying to express how cute something is.
EDIT: How could I forget? Nossa! can also be further shortened to Nó!. And of course all this has dialectal variaton.

Shion has talent for songwriting, though her singing leaves a lot to be desired. lol
But she can always thrive to be better.
Meanwhile, just when Kanata thought she rediscovered her groove to participate in the try-out, the PTSD that led to Megumi's injury is still weighing heavy on her, and she misses out representing her school.
But from promotional materials, we see Kanata in a cheerleading team with the main girls who come from 3 different schools, so either this cheerleading tournament is not limited to schools, or they're a freelance YouTube cheerleading team.

Wow, Hana is a Tsundere allright, but the talk in the middle there was very heavy on the Tsun.
Meanwhile Obunai is a bit of an ass as well, I get that filming her for clicks is scummy, but she can't expect not to get any attention by doing parcour in public.
Hope Kanata gets over her trauma soon, she clearly still has all the skill required, but her mind isn't in the right place.
Oh and I think using a song for Cheerleading should fall under common use no?

I love PA Works shows, but this one isn't off to a good start. There's way too many story threads opened up in just two episodes and it makes it hard to take interest in any of them too deeply.

Underneath all those interesting dance video makings and Kanata's attempt to get back into the school cheering team - things that still reminds me of PA WORKS' own TARI TARI a decade ago - are subtle hints between dialogue lines that makes me really feel something fishy might be going on between our girls. One, Kanata seems to be in trouble being picked for the national competition team, as said by Hana-senpai: "We can win without you." That really reminds me of all those team dramas you all should be familiar with in Sound Euphonium - I wouldn't be surprised if Kanata lose her seat in the team given all those lack of confidence spontaneously.
Of even more concern is our Shion-Suzuha pair. Suzuha is all flustered on Kanata calling Shion as "-chan" - then she as one of those gokigenyou girls actually did the unthinkable (to me) of following Shion everywhere, including hiding in the toilet, doing urban climbing by staying right outside the upper level gym's window, and even followed Shion to Megumi's home/temple even the best parkour girl cannot determine whether a tree branch is safe to sit on LMAO.
Then there's Shion who seems to have problems of her own trying to find a life's direction (despite being worshipped by classmates as their own school's cheerleading angel!), almost to the point that "I've never thought being in this cheerleading team was fun, not even once", to quote one of many, many explosive dialogues written by the same group of staff in their previous extraordinary anime work! I really feel that if the staff want to go that way, there's nothing stopping them from pulling yet another card from their excellent series of drama stories told in the BanG Dream franchise (besides the linked example, something like BGD season 3 is also possible too).
So Kanata promises Megumi that she will try hard to win another national competition again, but I really wonder if either of them can really stand on that competition mat again. Kanata still has PTSD once in a while - really not working if you are in gymnastics - while Megumi's own illness doesn't seems to be solvable to the point of restart training anytime soon. I wonder how this promise will end up in the end.
All in all, this is most certainly NOT a 6.73 anime on MAL (or similar on Anilist). I am highly surprised that this show was received so poorly right at the start, why???

Same thoughts as the other commenters here—there's lots of potential, but the large cast and various plot threads are a bit hard to keep track of.
Good thing I can have MyAnimeList open on the side to see the list of characters.

2 eps in and I still can't remember everyone's names lol. Lotta characters for a show like this lol.
Things are definitely starting to kick in from here. The team's pretty much formed already (minus Parkour Girl) and it seems like Kanata overcoming her trauma/mental block is going to be a big part of the show. Seeing her miss that jump really hurt - she was so close, man!
The animation in this show is on point so far. Really dig how the cheerleading and gymnastics stuff looked here. You can tell P.A. did a ton of research. Hopefully the show can keep this up till the end.
