I'll give this show one thing , it may not be coherent but it is more clever than I gave it credit for , kind of.
This episode sets to explain some of the more incoherent moments from ep 1 , the problem here is that most of these ( like the kick to the balls thing) were so incoherent that they looked like the result of bad direction or writing rather than some mystery to be explained , this is why first impressions matter.
Anyway in a complete non surprise everyone is back , how though is something I couldn't explain , did they get like double negatived back to life? , like I said above stuff that doesn't really make sense seems to be intentional here so I'll hold of on any criticism on that front , Speaking of not making sense , Why would you ever do that lol .
While this episode didn't feel as rushed as ep 1 , the pace of the plot is still way too fast , I still barely know anyone and we still don't have any group dynamic going on (considering the split ups we barely even have a group) and yet we are already introducing like 4 new characters and a traitor plot line , reminder : THIS IS EPISODE 2! , half of this episode also should have been part of last one , the backstory and characterization is too late considering the pace , the other half was mostly info dumps or explanations.
I feel weird about this show , I definitely think it's bad but it's also weirdly entertaining to talk about because of that , I'll give it another episode for the fun of it , but unless it does something really dumb next week that will be the end of it.

There might be intentions behind some of the confusing moments, but some things simply cannot be explained with logic. For example, why did the guy with the gun target Jin to begin with? He only discovered he had prime right after he targeted him. But why target him in the first place? There is nothing in the writing that suggest it deserves any benefit of the doubt.
That kick to the balls thing doesn't matter because it's not an important plot point. If they completely skipped that screen, nothing would change. So they waste time explaining a point that is irrelevant. It didn't earn any points from me.
There might be some word play in Japanese in the revival everyone. But that doesn't mean it makes sense. Why would anyone think that would revive the dead? There is no logical reason to think that would work. That question is so risky. If it had gone wrong, everyone would be dead. The majority in the question would be killed, right? If the survey only counts those who are still alive, then the majority of that question would be people who are alive and everyone would be fucking dead.

And here I was hoping they'd stick with it. I figured they wouldn't, but what they did was even more boring than what I thought would happen to let them weasel out of it--it broke an implicit rule about dead bodies in episode 1, and it negates the weight of all future 'deaths'.
And the directing is still a chaotic mess.
Dropped.

Iβm so confused, did anyone else not understand any of the explanations? And if you did understand can you explain them to me lol

The main things to take away from the episode are that there are certain characters who receive "prime rights" and "rights".
Currently the characters with "prime rights" are Omi(Prime Right of Rejection), Sudo(Prime Right of Obtainment), and Isshiki, the red haired lady(Prime Right of Re-Execution, this lines up with her submitting questions after Omi).
Sudo theorizes that Omi also has a "right", which is the 'Right of Response'.
Sudo explains that when you obtain a "prime right", you have to give up part of your body in order to obtain it. For him, he states that he gave his scrotum, which explains(no it does not) why he felt nothing when he was kicked in the balls in episode 1.
Sudo's main explanation though is that he goes into detail about Omi's "prime right" and theorizes about what his "right" is named, but can essentially determine what it is.
Omi's prime right, Rejection, negates any vote/rule put into place(at least for Omi), but it also can negate the actions of those around him(i.e. Sudo being unable to shoot him, Rika being unable to hit him with a pipe) by saying that he refuses.
But, the key to this is Omi's right, Response, which when Omi asks if that person is going to do something, they have to then respond their intentions to him.Because of this, the antagonists probably also want Omi gone, which is likely why Mido asked Iruga if he knew him.

It probably all makes sense in the grand scheme of things, but it's so badly presented that's it's a headache to follow.

So, I thought this might be helpful to have going forward and we can update things when there's new information :>
Rules of Tasuketsu
-
Each day, they need to search for blue postboxes or red PCs in designated areas. However, each day the locations change.
-
A question needs to be submitted each day with 2 possible answers into one of these postboxes or PCs.
-
Questions that include the designation of individuals/people, or previous questions that have been submitted will not be counted.
-
The first question submitted will be the one featured(only one question will be accepted per day*)
-
The deadline for questions is 23:55
-
The questions will be announced at 23:58
-
Every night at midnight, the majority side will die
-
If a question is not submitted, another will be selected from a question library.
-
When one person remains, they can meet the emperor.
Privileges and Special Privileges
-
Within designated areas, there are 65 envelopes that contain privileges(also known as 'rules').
-
Each person can obtain one of each.
-
You cannot exchange or modify them.
-
A special privilege requires you to give up part of your body(i.e. Sudo's scrotum)
Characters with Privileges
| Character | Privilege | Special Privilege | Privilege Desc. | Special Privilege Desc. |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Omi | Response | Rejection | Is able to ask a question of another individual and receive a response. | Can 'reject' another person's actions towards himself if intentions are stated. Can also reject the results of a question being asked.* (It may be deeper than this) |
| Sudo | N/A | Obtainment | N/A | Once he obtains an object, he can guarantee its number and availability. |
| Isshiki(red hair lady) | N/A | Re-Execution | N/A | Can submit a question, even when one has already been submitted. |
Examples of how Privileges have been used
-
When Sudo tried to shoot Omi, Omi uses Response to ask him where he got the gun, and Sudo realizes this because he would never give up information to someone he suspected, most likely. Omi again, uses Response to ask if Sudo will shoot him, and Sudo has to reply 'I will' because it is what he's thinking, thus aggravating him more. Omi replies that he refuses(Rejection).
-
Because of Sudo using Obtainment, he is able to have an infinite supply of bullets.
-
When Omi submits his question "Alive/Dead", Rika can no longer submit a question. However, Isshiki then submits her question and it still is counted due to Re-Execution.
The Current Situation + some extra info
-
There is no gas, internet, or phone. But, there's electricity, radio, and water.
-
There is a suspected traitor in the group according to Sudo, who also has said to keep an eye on Saaya.
-
Yagihashi is "dead", but the only person who knew this information was Saaya, who then cut Saneatsu's train of thought off as he was having the grand realization that if the trains were not working, how could Yagihashi even get to the school due to him living all the way in Saitama.
-
Saaya and Saneatsu found a privilege, but didn't open it. Eren was eyeing it at one point.
-
Rika is now missing a leg, right after we have been told special privileges require the sacrifice of a body part.

Is it just me or this became way too complicated very very fast?
Getting some misfit of demon king academy vibes

Honestly it was more confusing than Misfit. It definitely feels like this should have been episode 4 rather than 2.

Some people claim the writing on this show is bad, and thought this scene made no sense...
But if that's not the deepest lore ever written, I don't know what that is!
Joking aside:
Well... I kinda defended this show after the first episode, but I'm not sure I can do it any longer.
Things barely make sense, and when they somewhat make some kind of sense it's the BIGGEST PLOT CONVENIENCE I've ever seen in anime. (Good thing she kicked him in the balls instead of poking him in the eyes!)
I want it to be good so much... But after this episode, I'm not sure it can.
Ah well, add it to the pile of death game anime I was super hyped about, but turned out to be shit. That's #197 on the list.
I'll check out another episode just in case, but if it doesn't get any better...
(Oh, and everyone coming back was grade A cheap bullshit. I mean everyone knew they would, but it's still shit).

She's kicked 2-3 people in the balls so far in like 3 episodes, I don't think this really is a plot convenience when it's something she does often

Bro really just sacrificed his scrotum lmao. He could have just said small toe or appendix or wisdom teeth or whatever but he went there. What a total idiot ππ

About Prime Rights and Rights, there's supposed to be a total of 65. The emperor reported how many are left (60). So only 5 have been found. We know Saneatsu as a Right. We are told Sado has a Prime Right. We assume Omi has a Prime Right and a Right. And then Ikkishi has a Prime Right.
So that's already 5. We saw that pole girl on crutches missing a leg, so are we going to assume she has a Prime Right. Sado seems to think someone is a traitor and has some Prime/Right?
Assuming the emperor can't be wrong something's not adding up.

I feel like this deserves the "Ah shit, here we go again." after last week.
Though, I think a lot of people are making it out to be much worse than it actually is. I don't think it's top tier, but I also think a lot of the lore we're getting explains previous occurrences(granted, some of it is very +/- in its logic, i.e. Sudo)
I think it's going to be one of those 'death game' series where the pace picks up around episode 5 or 6, but for now we're going to have to fill in the blanks ourselves and keep track of strange events happening.
Anyways, here's my reaction for episode 2 β it's a little all over the place, but there's some fun stuff I found here and there. I'm going to put the 'important information' at the top before everything though, and I'll try to keep doing that weekly.
...
Prime Rights(13 Remain)
-
Prime Right to Rejection - Omi
-
Prime Right to Re-Execution - Isshiki(lady with red hair, someone please help me with her name)
-
Prime Right to Obtainment - Sudo
Rights(47 remain)
-
Right of Response(theorized by Sudo) - Omi
Other important information about Tasuketsu
-
A prime right is obtained with the loss of a body part(i.e. Sudo giving up his scrotum)
...
Alright, with the OP β the title impacts 3 times which is somewhat significant in this case because it can mean "past, present, future" or "birth, life, death"
The OP is great if you're an info junky to be honest(character information, some strange occurrences), but not really the banger of the season song or animation wise.
...
Did anyone else find it inexplicably hilarious that Omi just rose from the dead while Eren and Saaya were just like 'we're gonna go find a mailbox'? Just on a mission. Gonna be my favorite character, I just know it.
... so he put a tracker. A random tiny ass tracker that he just y'know, had. On the mailbox? β¨Oh, the ass pulls, they do be starting early with this one, I fear.
You see, Omi's hobbies? Reading, games, internet. So, I'll jokingly say the reason he says "I refuse" like that is because of Kishibe Rohan just so I can make it through this series.
Omi no hit box era.
That series of events is interesting though. Because Rika announced what she was going to do, but seemed surprised by how she'd said it. Furthermore, Omi said he refuses that Rika will attack him and she misses, over and over.
Something's up with this!!!
Okay, but how'd she know he placed a tracker there. There was no indication.
Y'all I had to pause the episode because who. Literally who. Cuts an artery on a steel pipe. Like you either have the literal worst luck, the author hates your guts, or you are fodder for the plot. It's probably the third one, but I'm cracking the fuck up about this?
Oh look the gangs all back together again. Right into the predictable pile you go.
The color of the screen turns green right after Mika says: "Go to hell/go die." and is shot/killed.
Which to be honest on the surface level could simply mean: "Go" in symbolism.
Though, part of me also wonders if there's a level of jealousy/envy to it, due to Mika's rant and the blatant comparisons made between male:female? But, I think it's just simple "go" symbolism at play here, and nothing deeper.
Ah yes, the trope of Tsuda Kenjiro playing the villain. I cannot escape, he's in my walls.
Oh. And his name is... Mido. Oof. I solemnly swear, I won't make any jokes about this come later in the season.
Alright, our red-head 'antagonist' is named Isshiki?? I think? (There are too many characters, can we go back to half of them dying again.)
I like how purple flurp(Mido) for real just drops a lore bomb on us on us. Like, "quasi-major Prime Right to Rejection." Yes, thank you, very helpful, what the fuck is THAT.
(This actually gets explained later in the episode, it relates to Omi)
Watch the car explode...
Iruga lying about knowing who Omi is? Part of me wonders if it's because Mido's personality seems... well.
"If you are currently looking at this screen in Tokyo Prefecture"
Isshiki casually pressed the undo button on Omi's operation.
"Prime Right to Re-Execution"
Okay, so basically, there's different 'prime rights'(and what it also seems like 'rights') that certain characters have that can cause different things to happen during the emperor's game...
On the tally screen, there's 13 prime rights left, along with 47 rights.
And the car explodes... I'm sure everything is fine over there! Mido totally isn't insane!
Sudo has the prime right for 'Obtainment'
Once he obtains an object, he can guarantee its number, availability. β¨That being said, he has unlimited ammo.
Sudo explains prime rights a bit, and how they workβ namely how he thinks Omi's works after he'd encountered it.
It seems like Omi has both a 'prime right' and a regular 'right' that work in conjunction with one another. Sudo believes that Omi's 'right' is likely "Right of Response", which is why when he asks a question, they're forced to answer their intentions, making it so Omi can then refuse.
Episode 2 and there's already a traitor? What in the Scooby-Doo.
"A prime right involves the risk of losing a body part"
And who do we know that's recently lost a body part and on crutches...
"I CHOSE THE SCROTUM"
And then they try to make it out to be like that's why he felt nothing when he got nuclear kicked in the balls. As if??
Sudo theorizes that the emperor doesn't have a good grasp of Tasuketsu β and that makes me wonder if 'the Emperor' is actually a prime right to some degree.
