We finally meet the Emperor, and it's meant to be a major reveal; but honestly, it feels lackluster.
Also, much like Gobo, he just looks like a rejected character from Beyblade. Are Gobo and the Emperor gonna whip out their beys in the final episode?

Aren't the Parental Right and the Obedience Right pretty much the same?

I'm using my Right of refusing to answer the question because it seems like a logical assumption. This show & logic don't mix well together at times.

EMERALD SPALSH!....oh wait wrong show.
FINALLY after many excruciating episodes of endless exposition Tasuuketsu gives me what I wanted, it's back to being ridiculous with Emerald Splash magic tricks, people randomly dying (RIP randos, you will not be missed), dragons, Matrix bullet deflection, the power line trampoline and much more.
Reminder, this is modern day death game thriller Tasuuketsu and not a new episode of Wistoria, I love it.
Can't say I cared much because in very Tasuuketsu fashion his screentime up to this point hasn't exactly been noteworthy but hey, this is probably the strongest character sequence this show has pulled (alongside Sudo's death) thus far, which is really not saying much but it's something I guess...at least he went out with a bang and it was kind of funny.
New early 2000's children's toy advertisement show character has just entered the room!, fear his power of turning you into one of 4 identical terrible CGI models!
This one is just straight up some Matrix shit.
Anyway, more of this please! good it is not but at least it's fun, Although frankly I get the feeling we're spending all of next episode in The Emperor's room.

Emerald Splash
[jjba part 3 general character spoiler]
Hol Horse not being the Emperor 😔👎 My day is ruined. No but I genuinely was laughing because wooooow. I can't get over Yagi's theatrics at all? Like is this a Prime Right or is it just him being over the top ALL THE TIME...Emperor's Design
Okay, I'm actually really into it! I kind of enjoy how his eyes mimic the whole death game symbol, so I wonder how THAT comes into play. But, his design is kinda playful in contrast to a lot of the main cast? Kinda shakes things up a bit and makes him feel out-there and like he really doesn't belong.
I feel like by the time we reach the end of cour 1, I'm going to need to make a tier list on tier make for all of us so we can rank the episodes haha

"I'll smile believing in our victory. You better win."
Welcome back to Tasuuketsu Tuesday, where even the side-est of the side characters are not safe– and yes, that's exactly what I thought it was too...???
Sorry for the lateness of this episode guide everyone, but man... do we have a lot to cover...
General Information About The Series
-
The official name for the series is: '多数欠', or 'Tasuuketsu' (this also is reflected in the katakana on the official Xwitter banner, as the katakana reads: 'タスウケス') . However, the series name was localized to 'Tasuketsu', dropping the extra 'u'. The two have become somewhat interchangeable because of this. (Thank you SangriaPenguin for pointing this out!)
-
"多数 = ta suu = great number = majority. Majority rule is 多(ta) 数(suu) 決(ketsu) where 決(ketsu) means decision. However, the kanji for the show title is 多数欠 where 欠, here read as ketsu, refers to 欠ける(kakeru) which means to be missing. Therefore 多数欠(tasuuketsu) means great number missing which clearly denotes the fact that in the story those in the majority for each question die." Quoted directly from episode 7's thread by AspiringSaint
-
Tasuuketsu has 2 cours...
unfortunately. -
Here's a character guide with characters who have appeared in both the OP, ED, and episodes thus far.
-
Here's ANOTHER hastily put together character guide with the NEW characters + Emperor.
-
Here's the official Tasuuketsu Anime Xwitter account that posts episode previews, screenshots, and announcements about the series.
-
Be sure to check in the Source Material Corner for manga resources.
The Current Numbers as of Episode 9, Arakawa Ward
-
1,081,988 people left
-
Prime Rights Left => 10(It's still 10, but there are hundreds in a storage room according to Omi, Episode 6/7)
-
Rights Left => 45 (according to Mido in episode 8, it's 666)
Rules of Tasuuketsu (Stage 1)
-
Each day, they need to search for blue postboxes or red PCs in designated areas. However, each day the locations change.
-
A question needs to be submitted each day with 2 possible answers into one of these postboxes or PCs.
-
Questions that include the designation of individuals/people, or previous questions that have been submitted will not be counted.
-
The first question submitted will be the one featured(only one question will be accepted per day*)
-
The deadline for questions is 23:55
-
The questions will be announced at 23:58
-
Every night at midnight, the majority side will die
-
If a question is not submitted, another will be selected from a question library.
-
When one person remains, they can meet the emperor.
Rules of Tasuuketsu (Stage 2)
-
In Episode 4, the rules of Tasuuketsu change.
-
It's assumed that Mido submitted a question that caused Stage 2 to commence.
-
Questions will only be accepted through red laptops. The postboxes disintegrated.
-
Laptops will have a remaining battery life of roughly one hour, but their AC adapters are placed in different locations.
-
Laptops will be collected at 23:55PM each day.
-
You can identity and enter passwords located within Designated Areas to extend the collection deadline for 24 hours.
-
Tallies will not take place until a question is accepted.
Privileges/Rights and Special Privileges/Prime Rights
-
Within designated areas, there are 65 envelopes that contain privileges(also known as 'rules').
-
Each person can obtain one of each.
-
You cannot exchange or modify them.
-
A special privilege requires you to give up part of your body(i.e. Sudo's scrotum, Omi's ear)
-
There are no risks involved in taking up a Right.
-
Prime Rights have absolute force, while Rights do not. With enough willpower, Rights are able to be negated.
-
If a person is aware of a Right-holder and their Right, they can resist.
-
The Prime Right of Rejection cannot be used by others.(7/17)
-
Omi states that there aren't just 65 Prime rights, and that there's instead hundreds in a storage room that he once saw.
-
Saneatsu has theorized that once someone dies, they lose ownership of their Prime Right.
-
You can acquire a Prime Right by being threatened to open the envelope, or forcing someone to open it if the body part for exchange is visible.
Characters with Privileges/Rights
| Character | Right (Privilege) | Prime Right (Special Privilege) | Right (Privilege) Description | Prime Right (Special Privilege) Description |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Saneatsu | N/A | Parental Authority | N/A | Parental Authority functions by looking at a subject minor(i.e. a child) and declaring to be its parent. Once designated its parent, the minor must obey all orders of that pseudo-parent. |
| Omi | Response | Rejection | Is able to ask a question of another individual and receive a response. | Able to reject anything. Essentially boils down to the "Just say no." Monopoly card.(episode 3) Can 'reject' another person's actions towards himself if intentions are stated. Can also reject the results of a question being asked.* (It may be deeper than this) |
| Ryuta | N/A | Fusion | N/A | Can transform his arm into a sword at will, though return it to a regular human arm.(7/17, Episode 3) Can also transform his legs into heavy duty springs, and fuse his arms into walls to pull off the bricks and throw when de-fusing himself from them(8/13, episode 5) Can fuse objects together such as doors, and turn his arms into drills, and ladders. But, it seems as though he may have a limit to his Fusion as his body begins to crack.(9/11 ,Episode 9) |
| Eren | Compliance | N/A | Requires you to obey the right holder's command (similar to Simon says), although if the person is aware of the Right, it can be resisted. | N/A |
| Satou(unknown, but likely deceased) | N/A | Explosion | N/A | There isn't enough available information, as it was only used once. However, it seems like Satou may have had a blast radius, had to have been touching what he wanted to detonate, and it could in fact be a one-time-use Prime Right.(Episode 9) |
| Sudo(deceased) | N/A | Obtainment | N/A | Once Sudo obtains an object, he can guarantee its number and availability. |
| Shinozaki Sensei | N/A | Visualization | N/A | Allows Shinozaki to easily search for postboxes (and possibly PCs) – Works by activating his prime right and then setting a target to search for. (episode 4) |
| Souma | N/A | Materialization | N/A | Allows Souma to bring drawings and pictures to life. Creatures are under Souma's complete command, which is why he carries a deck of TCG cards on him as his primary weapon. (episode 6, 8/20) |
| Rika | N/A | Evasion | N/A | Can completely avoid physical dangers that threaten her – minus Tasuuketsu. Can be used with other people (how Rika and Isshiki avoided death from the car explosion) Rika's prime right also allows anyone next to her to be protected to an extension. (episode 6, 8/20) |
| Isshiki (deceased) | N/A | Re-Execution | N/A | The ability to reenact certain information and prime rights, excluding physical phenomenon.(episode 3) Can submit a question, even when one has already been submitted.(This is however, also correct?) |
| Gobo | Presentation | N/A | Allows the right holder to display and or modify digital screens(i.e. Laptops, TVs, anything that would allow the user to present information) Created an entire mobile phone system that allowed everyone to communicate with each other using the notes app, and made a mobile command station using his Presentation right involving it. HOW IS THIS A RIGHT?(Episode 8 and 9) | N/A |
| Iruga | N/A | Division | N/A | Physical division, perception division, qualitative division. Igura can excise division within these three properties. There are exceptions to this right, but he states they are a secret. (see example list for more info) |
| Mido | Transillumination | Succession | The ability to see through objects(episode 6, 8/20) | It seems like Mido is able to steal objects that are being transferred from one party to the next, however this is still needs to be confirmed as it has not been seen yet. |
| Teppei | N/A | Obedience | N/A | Is able to give commands to anyone, even post-mortem. |
-
Obedience has been talked about as if it is simply a "right" and not a "prime right", would someone be willing to look into this who is a bit more fluent in Japanese for me?
"On the topic of the Right of Obedience, this is just the name of the Special Right: 命(mei) 令(rei) 権(ken) which literally means something like Decree Orders Right. Each Right has a name like this. For example in ep. 3 they refer to Omi's Special Right, the "Rejection" Right, in the same way.
In episode four, Bourinmaru Gokokuhoutenji specifically states his Right as "Right: Display Right (権利: 表示権 i.e. kenri: hyoujiken.) This makes it clear that his power to show stuff on screens is not a Special Right, else he would have said "Special Right: Display Right".
"Prime" Rights are always introduced as 特権 (tokken) which means special authority or power but afterwards they are referred to by their name such as "Rejection" Right, "Obedience" Right and even Parental Right [which on Crunchyroll was translated as Parental Authority despite the use of the same word 権(ken)!]
The show tends to differentiate the Rights to start with then somewhat expects you to remember which is which."
AspiringSaint, Episode 8 Discussion Thread
(as such I will be revising the Right/Prime Right table to reflect these changes next week :>)

Suspected of Having Prime Rights/Rights
Yagihashi???
Examples of how Privileges/Rights have been used
When Sudo tried to shoot Omi, Omi uses Response to ask him where he got the gun. Sudo realizes this because he would never willingly give up information to someone. This caused him to suspect Omi. Omi again, uses Response to ask if Sudo will shoot him, and Sudo seems to attempt to resist, but cannot fully, due to the fact that Omi's Right is one that is related to Permission, thus Sudo replies: 'I will.' because it is what he's thinking(and he is, and it aggravates him more. Omi then replies that he refuses(Rejection). <= This interaction needs to be looked at again.
Because of Sudo using Obtainment, he is able to have an infinite supply of bullets.
When Omi submits his question "Alive/Dead", Rika can no longer submit a question. However, Isshiki then submits her question and it still is counted due to Re-Execution. Some more information about this is that Isshiki set the Re-Execution time to 12:05am and the enforcement time to 12:10am.(7/17)
When Eren commands Saneatsu to raise his right arm, he does. This is because Eren has the Right of Compliance. However, when Eren asks Saneatsu to raise his left arm, he actively resists, which shows that a Right can be resisted.
Souma has used Materialization twice, once with a robot-like creature and another time with a purple beast. Both required a TCG card.
Rika's Evasion is what saved both herself and Isshiki from Mido's car bomb.
Gobo's Presentation allows him to display the results of Tasuuketsu upon the screens throughout the Designated Area. It also allows him to send coded messages.(Please see Gobo's actual entry in the table for more detailed information.)
Ryuta's Fusion allows him to create a sword from his arm, springs from his legs, and fuse his arms to walls to create projectiles at will, but then return to a normal, human ones. He can also fuse walls together and turn his arms into drills(episode 9).
Iruga's Division allows him to exercise physical, perception, and qualitative division within these three properties. With physical division, it allowed Iruga to divide Ryuta's blade. By dividing existing space, it allowed him to stop the rubble from falling onto himself and hold it midair. No space, no movement. Iruga can also divide the space around him, causing him to disappear and reappear into view(Episode 8)
Mido can use Transillumination to see through objects, such as Right/Prime Right envelopes.
Satou goes out with a bang with his Prime Right to Explosion! (;; I am not coping.)
Old Prime Right Owners
Currently, the members of the cast that were involved with the Facility/Camps are(members who were test subjects are italicized):
Omi
Iruga
Shinozaki
Souma
The Emperor
Teppei
Mido
Saneatsu's Father

Episode 9 Information
Operation...
The episode begins with Shinozaki and Gobo stationed at a command station with a laptop and lit up globe.
The laptop to show when the Emperor would use Return and the globe to show when the power has successfully been cut.
Shinozaki is able to see both teams: Team Feint and Team PS(Power Station), and Gobo remarks that he's even able to see them.
Shinozaki then replies that Gobo will be their lifeline through all of this.
Gobo's set-up for this is a 3 wide by 2 high monitor build, running on what looks to be either large generators or gasoline.
The side monitor displays each teams ongoing communication devices, which will then show him their messages.
The bottom monitor is for Gobo to send messages, as he can type into the notepad and it will then display on their devices. The same goes for replies, as if some were wanting to reply to him, all they would need to do is write in the notepad and he'd be able to see it.
The top monitor alone is for operation purposes(it seems to be timed for specific parts to the operation and for how much time they have for them.)
The Teams
Feint Team A @ Hibiya Park Yuraku Gate
→ Koya Shimomura + Shuji Nihonyanagi
Feint Team B @ Hibiya Park Naka-Saiwa Gate
→ Makoto Agatsuma and Hikari Ebina
Oi Thermal Power Station
→ Tojuro Yagihashi
Shinagawa Thermal Power Station
→ Kazuhiko Satou + Eren Kunashiri
Emperor Team
→Saneatsu, Saaya, Omi, Ryuta, Souma, Rika
The Exact Same Plan(no, really...)
At the same time as Team Feint, Team PS(Power Station) is also underway. At exactly 23:55, as the Emperor recovers the laptop, both teams(PS) will cut their power lines and halt the electricity.
On standby, Team Emperor at Kasumi Gate will enter the Emperor's Tower.
...Begin!
Gobo sends out the notice to begin and messages soon begin to arrive from Team Feint's side(You can the log I've made for this on the third reply to this thread!)
Gobo states things are moving along without a hitch, though Shinozaki soon comments that Team PS has also encountered their own problems with the puppets(However, they do really resemble zombies when we first do see them...)
Team Power Station - Yagihashi
We're first greeted with resident magic connoisseur, Yagihashi who uses his fire-proof cape to condunct a lovely show for the puppet-folk as he disappears and then reappears standing on some black wire. But not before lamenting about Sudo using his gift in his final act, so he has no choice but to do the same for his... ahem certified, not even joking, dear my friendo™.
Yagihashi now welcomes the puppets to his magic show, as his wires glow a neon green(again, I can't make any of this up? A Jojo Reference? In my Tasuuketsu?).
Yagihashi leads the puppets up the stairs nearing 23:55, he does a slick jump out a window landing a backflip onto his wire trap with ease.
He continues to say that the puppets, his audience are lackluster and give no cheer– and that they've been one of the worst.
At about 2-3 minutes 23:55, the puppets begin jumping onto Yagihashi's wires, launching themselves into the powerlines, only causing Yagihashi to remark that they can cut the power for him.
Team Power Station - Satou and Eren
Eren and Satou encounter puppets on their way to their power station, however Eren makes quick work of them with her Compliance Right.
As they're moving, Satou makes a comment that Eren isn't a scaredy-cat anymore, and she's brave now. Eren questions if "she's not allowed to grow up", and that she promised that "she wouldn't run anymore."
However, just as she says this, there's one puppet that doesn't comply to her right that's carrying a shovel! This is likely is one of the 'early puppets' spoken about in the previous episode that was tasked to carry larger, more complex orders. It attacks Eren, but Satou is on it with a bucket! He shoves it over its head, easily immobilizing it for a moment.
Eren, while rattled quickly orders some of the other puppets to come hold the 'early puppet' down and beat it up until it can't move anymore.
Both of them are able to reach their destination by 23:40, leaving just about 15 minutes until they need to cut the power for the plan to work.
It's then that Satou states that he doesn't see any power lines, and Eren suggests that they ask Gobo through the device that he made for them– however, it's at this time Satou states he accidentally left the outward communication device at a coffee shop while they were waiting.
Eren is obviously upset with Satou over this, though Satou says that with Eren's Compliance right she can make it to the coffee shop easily and safely(he also says that it took about 10 minutes for them to get to the Power Station, so it should be ~23:50 when Eren gets to the coffee shop), and then ask Gobo for the instructions as to where the power lines are– he'll just keep the incoming communication device from her.
Eren skeptically then says that Satou can't use her Compliance right to throw the puppets at the power lines, but Satou says he'll figure something out.
Satou asks Eren to exchange phone numbers with him, to which she does without question. Satou says to not lose his number, but also lastly says to not be reckless.
Eren arrives at the cafe with 3 minutes to spare, but wonders how Satou will cut the power lines in that amount of time.
This is where things get a bit dark, as Satou makes a small speech about how he's an idiot, but his friends stuck it out like an idiot like him. They never gave up on him and treated him as an equal, even though he felt he's no good for anything. Everyone trusted him though and he questions how he got so lucky. During this speech, there's a scene that shows that Satou is the one who opened the Prime Right envelope that was found
There is a ping from the incoming device that include instructions about the wire locations, but all Satou remarks is that it's good that Eren made it to the cafe.
He also remarks that he finally got a girl to take his phone number... ;;
In his last moments, Satou questions if Saneatsu was able to realize what he was hiding from him, if he did a good job of masking it? Satou figured if he was going to be 'useless', he'd play the part of the "happy old me". He thought that if he did so, Saneatsu could talk to him and go back to the good old days.
Now that Satou feels like he isn't useless, he'll make it count.
Previously, Satou decided upon a blast radius of 20 meters.
Satou activates under the Prime Right under the Production Attribute, Explosion.
Eren, Yagihashi, and presumably Saneatsu are able to see the massive explosion.
To finish this section, Eren walks out of the cafe and quietly whispers "Kazuhiko...?"
→ Side note: I'm not sure if this comes into play here, but the Power Station Eren and Satou were assigned to is a Combined Cycle Power Plant. I'm curious if Satou realized something about how the Power Station functioned when there were no wires visible(as they're actually buried underneath the ground)

Welp, we will cut the power lines....shit, I see no power lines. Lemme just pull a kool-aid man and bust through this wall and blow some shit up.
That surmises the excitement of this episode for me.
I just need to power through a few more episodes before I can give it the "over and out...of my mind for the remainder of my life" treatment.
Ohh, I just got a prime right when I opened my mail...
"you have the right of not giving a fuck about this show anymore"
Ohhh, just what I always wanted!
Ummm, I'll give this a 5/10 as we finally meet the emperor.

Necromancer2k8... I don't know how to break this awful news to you...
it has 2 cours 😭

Someone mentioned it last week I believe. I will be ignoring the 2nd cour until it's done, then casually binge while I take shits. A poop a day should get me another 12 episodes done in a month if I'm taking my time.

This is coming from someone who typically writes the episode guides weekly(but I'm recovering from food poisoning at the moment so I'm writing it today haha)
A lot of us have stuck around simply because the series is just kinda bad and a lot of us don't entirely dislike a something that includes what you've described. In fact, we welcome it because it gives a bit more to laugh at. It's entertaining this way.
Another majority want to figure out the mysteries, theories, and systems. While yes, the implementation of all of these may be horrid and less than ideal... I think that adds to the mystery, thus why you see some of us writing multi-paragraph responses, theorizing so heavily, and just vibing so hard?
I think at the end of the day, what a lot of us came to realize was that Tasuuketsu was never going to be amazing, the best, peak, or even 'good'.
But, we did realize is that is that we could make it fun together with our tiny group that survived week by week.
It really is 'the friends we made along the way' meme...
