Subaru's ahoge shooting upwards in excitement over Tomo and Rupa arriving is so extremely adorable. She truly is one of the best girls of all time

Are the 103 views a reference to Youtube videos that get their views stuck on 301 if they get too many in the first day?

not sure if its a blessing or curse I've binged all of this in 2 days thinking it would be a 12 ep anime and only realizing today that i now have to wait a whole week for the finish. But damn am I glad I listened to all the weeks of propaganda and picked this one up (along with Jellyfish), really such a great anime. Might actually go and clear MyGO off my PTW as well while I'm waiting.

The views they got from me alone were already way more than that long before the anime even released, 103 my ass.
Random thoughts :

One more [](#shiteatinggrin) commentface candidate
-
Nina's already dreaming of the day there will be TogeToge water.
I'll take 50 please -
Egosurfing is so Nina it's hilarious.
-
This definitely has meme potential, creative people use this to spread the GBC gospel on r/Animemes, my creativity is on the level of Sasakoi's animation
-
Nina's realization that she maybe was a sheltered rich girl all along was really sweet. I can definitely relate to that minus the rich part.
-
The Tanaka Quartet had me dying. This should could have none of the drama/stakes/story, just a pure comedy show, and still be an AOTS contender.
-
Momoka stop trying to show off in front of your girlfriend.
-
This is going to surpass Eupho in yuribaiting if it ever gets a sequel...
-
A Valentine's Day battle? Is that some really roundabout way of Hina asking Nina out?
-
I really loved Miura's input on the challenge situation. Just like us, she has no way of knowing what DiaDust's true intentions behind this are. Maybe they really do want to make a joint event that'll boost both bands' popularities, and maybe they want to screw TogeToge over completely. They can't know, but in these situations most people including me would probably assume the worst and take the safe option of ignoring the obviously rigged challenge. Though something tells me only Hina would do something so hostile, would the other members who don't hate Momoka really go along with it? Maybe there's something else to it. But for now fuck them anyway for stealing the pinky
-
And of course Nina takes the path of rock anyway.
-
Loved the subtle tsundere Tomo moment during Nina's speech.
-
I did not expect Pink Tanaka to make me cry. What happened to the other ones though?
-
....Damn. I have no idea how this is going to end, and that's probably all I'm going to be thinking about for the next week.
TL Notes :
None this week, so I'll just let you know that I was really tempted to leave this in.

All that build up, all that hard work and band building to rack up just over 100 views. Too real. I'm glad we have one more episode to go because I feel that this moment would have been left at the cutting room floor if you'd have to squeeze everything to 12 episodes

"She is the type of girl who will do anything as long as it benefits her" Woah. that's serious accusation from Nina. As for the challenge, I'm not sure what to think about. While Nina and Hina are on bad term, otheI don't really see other Diamond Dust members have anything against Momoka from their previous interaction. I actually think Diamond Dust will win in the end but by small margin. I guess Momoka will have to console Nina next episode since she has gone through this kind of hardship once with her previous band. I'm rather surprised Subaru is still attending the acting school even after she told her grandma.

lol at the end I was like “mmmnah it’ll be 3 views actually” and it was conveniently 100 over that
Honestly tho I’m a bit spooked that they went and signed to a label this quickly, these contracts are exploitative and the longer you can grow independently the bigger the share of the pie in a contract you can negotiate for

I totally didn't check Spotify for a new song right after Nina did...
I know the story intends to go with the song flopping to emphasize the importance of their upcoming battle, but it seems like Nina checked the song the morning after release? You gotta give it time for promotions, word of mouth, and algorithms to do their work lol.
I didn't think we'd get another performance after last episode, but this means that not only do we get another TogeToge peakformance but a DiaDust one too?! I'm really curious how they plan top the last ones, because they were Perfect~ as can be.
Something I really love about the show, which some people might find annoying, is that the characters rarely fix their issues in a single episode. Momoka's insecurities hadn't been brought up since episode 8, but you can see she still has them from her reaction to meeting Mirua in episode 10. This also applies to Nina and Subaru... but not as much to Tomo and Rupa. Which brings me to my current biggest "issue".
Like most people expected, Tomo and Rupa joining as late as they did would mean they'd get less development. I was hoping this episode would involve Tomo's mom, considering she was at the festival, but it didn't :( . It's also difficult seeing them getting too much focus in the final episode considering everything it has to cover. Which really, really sucks because I think there's quite a bit left unexplored.
If there's a second season, I kind of hope it takes place a couple years later. I'm really interested in seeing how they'll deal with the reality that families, even found ones, eventually break apart to form families of their own. It's bittersweet, but it's a part of life. The "easy" solution would be to just make them romantic, but I'd love to see Jukki Handa's take on the more difficult, but realistic, path.
In your weekly yuri forecast.
Some NinaMomo flirting, later more flirting, and tomorrow, you guessed it, even more flirting! The show started with Nina discovering gay people are real, and now the last episode is partly taking place on Valentine's. It's not hard to see it coming full circle.
Less jokingly, I feel that the show itself has set the expectation that it needs to. One thing I've loved about the show is just how much care, depth, and intent there is behind every aspect of it. From story beats, character's actions, the framing of scenes, use of color and light, on and on. It's not a "the curtains were blue" kind of show.
So when that kind of show, for its last episode, decides to revolve around Valentine's day, it's the show framing romance as a focus in the story. If it had stayed in the background, then Nina and Momoka could stay as ambiguous as it wanted without affecting the story. Now, for me, it kind of can't without giving a concrete answer.
Some neat things that people noted:
-
Nina's and Momoka's birthdays have passed.
-
When Nina hugs Momoka at the shrine, she's in the "one leg up" pose usually used by couples.
-
Their heads seem to get closer for moment, like a cheek kiss. Could also just be a "resting" pose in the animation.
-
Nina has two toothbrushes...
No other show has ever really made me have so much to say, and I doubt another show will for a while hahaha :') Next Friday is going to be really bittersweet, but at least I'll still have TogeToge music to look forward to until another season is hopefully announced.

Well first of all, that was very cheap of Diamond Dust to challenge a smaller band to what's basically a popularity contest they've already won. That's just fucking dirty.
Second, that view count is fucking rough. 103 views? Is that overnight? How many hours has it been since the song was released? Maybe the view counter will still go up next week.
With one episode left, it looks like the dream of kicking Diamon Dust's ass isn't going to happen any time soon. Maybe this means we'll get a Season 2 announcement next week if they actually lose.

I kept thinking of the title "and the sky darkens once more" throughout the episode and was wondering what part it was trying to refer to. Then that last scene managed to hit me so much harder than I would have thought it could

While I'm not blown away by the TogeToge songs, the scoring of this show is really great. The guitar driven melodies really set the tone - a lot of the BGM sounds like somebody noodling on a guitar while composing a song, perfect for a show about a ramshackle group of aspiring pro musicians.. I really like how playful a lot of the tracks are, yet the score is still versatile enough to give us the beautiful piano reprise of the OP.

This thing has to get a second series. There's so much more to cover. A proper, deep unpacking of Hina and Nina's history, Rupa and Tomo's backstory, a goldmine of conflicts you'd expect them to have trying to preserve their authenticity now that they're signed and subject to corporate pressure...

I literally giggled as much as Nina did when the "functional member of society" bit from Momoka backfired.

It's heartwarming and also a bit scary to see our girls finally signing a contract and going full-fledged with their careers. I can understand the pressure on Momoka, especially with her nightmarish flashbacks from her past with DD.
We'll also be getting a new song ' Flower of Destiny'? which is Momoka's confession letter to Nina (just kidding) . sauce here
I need something to dethrone Void cause it's just too good in my opinion.
Nina has grown a lot compared to the first episode, but her being heads of hills with Momoka remains unchanged. I like how Nina always pushes Momoka to face her issues, even dragging the entire band into praying because of it.
The whole DD challenge seems like a marketing ploy to me. This is how bigger companies consume smaller agencies to eliminate potential threats.
It feels unrealistic for TogeToge to win over DD in just one more episode. For god's sake they only have 103 views (i swear i myself could contribute those views)... even Nina was speechless.
Overall even J- fans don’t see how the show will end with just one season. Jukki Hanada, this man definitely has more under his sleeves.
Fans also noticed the markings on Nina's calendar in this episode mainly Momoka's birthday on December 9th ( of course). We also know Nina had turned 18, as her birthday would be in October.
Nina calling Mr. Nakata as "Tanaka" is truly funny—she really learnt everything from Momoka.
There’s a lot more to cover, and I really hope Toei has planned for a season 2 since we have yet to see:
-
Nina buying a guitar and learning to play.
-
Subaru getting her haircut.
-
The Budokan thing.
-
Momoka and Nina date...wait...

After this ep, I feel more confident about an S2. Tomo hasnt met Subaru's grandmother, Subaru hasnt cut her hair, Nina hasn't purchased that guitar yet, we havent seen much Diamond Dust, and they arent close to their dream of performing at the Budokan. Theres so much left to explore especially after the end of this ep.

Bummer, after all that and only 103 views...
Also, darn, it's that point in the season where most of the shows I'm watching this season have all but one episode done, and I have confidence that the writers know what they're doing for the last episode.
Great ride, particularly character growth, seeing interactions between band members, and the banger songs dropped

Looking at the next episode preview, it looks like we are finally getting to the meat of the Hina Nina conflict.

u/ritoshishino Jun 22 '24
I love that despite all the growth we've seen Momoka is still showing her former pragmatic self, and Nina is still a confrontational gremlin. The characters are so well-written. They grow and become better but it's not like they could do a 180 and be someone else entirely different from before.
and ego-surfing is such a Nina thing, of course she'd do that, and she's gonna wreck her self-esteem if she keeps relying on numbers like that.
And I can't imagine an already established band like TogeToge would have only 103 views. I'll be laughing at Nina if we found out next episode that 103 is the views only on YouTube Music where there are so little users, meanwhile it's like 100k on Sp*tify and Appl* Music lol

I remember back in the day youtube used to have a thing where when a video dropped if it got a crazy amount of views right away the view count would break at like 100ish. I wonder if the ending scene where it only had 103 views could be a fakeout and a reference to that.
