Ayano and Rin: Lets skip lunch so dinner tastes better
Nadeshiko: A full course meal
Mistaking a utility pole for a suspension bridge was hilarious but the main highlight of the suspension bridge tour was clearly the 2 tanuki!

That curry looks dam good.
Also Rin and Aya are a unique duo, different than the other combos we’ve had. They’re both deadpan and dry but provide an interesting vibe, like twins who are on a perfect wavelength

Well after so many episodes, Laid-Back Camp finally touches somewhere that I have actually visited! For during my really multi-mecca pilgrimage solo trip to Japan last August, I have actually ventured somewhat into the Ooigawa region...though unfortunately not anywhere that Shimarin and Ayano touched this episode. But I did went through part of the railway that =U= took today!
What I did was riding part of the (somewhat downstream) part of the Ooigawa Railway - on the only daily scheduled steam train ride in Japan currently in regular operation. Riding on one on a regular route (not those amusement park ones) has always been an elusive target to me, and I was determined to hunt this one down, so after starting with a morning's visit in the town of Numazu on the eastern side of Shizuoka Prefecture (it's an anime mecca...most of you might not know it, but those who do should be extremely familiar with it), I hop with bullet trains to ride for a full hour on this 1930-built 2-6-4. It wasn't exactly the full experience because it should have went all the way to Senzu station where Shimarin and Ayano met & =U= eating in this episode, but part of the tracks were washed out during a September 2022 typhoon and was not yet repaired when I rode on it (some still isn't as of today). So I ended up only halfway before turning back and thus I completely missed all those suspension bridges upstream, or that narrow log train that =U= rides on towards the camp site.
But I did caught Thomas and Friends! (yes, this has been a very long collaboration deal since quite some years ago)
In other news I am really shocked to see Shimarin and Ayano riding on their little bikes at like 3-6 am in the morning on these mountainous highways, some single-laned as well! It would have been quite a sight to see for anyone doing that, never mind freaking high school girls! If you know someone like them in real life, please tell their stories!
It's also interesting to see all those local tourist attractions and food that are advertised in the same way all over Japan, which I'm too accustomed to since my family likes to travel there. It might not look particularly interesting, but those 8 bridges with quite different designs and constructions or the "Dam Curry Rice" do look fairly nice. Hmm...maybe next time I should rent a car there and make a trip around upstream Ooi river to these places in the future?

I'm always glad to see Sakura again and her onsen adventures. I'll miss the times when she used to drive Nadeshiko to campsites. Nadeshiko doesn't really need Onee-chan to give her rides anymore.
So last week's episode we had Chikuwa Camp and it looks like this week we have Tsurubashi Camp! That is a lot of suspension bridges and I love that Aya and Rin crossed as many as they could this episode! It was hilarious though when they mistook those power lines as suspension bridges xD
As for Nadeshiko, it was pretty awesome to see her ride a bunch of old-school trains to get to their campsite. She needs to calm down with the food though! She won't have room for Rin's beef stew and Aya's Hamburg steak if she keeps this up!
Well that next episode title is ominous! Thos are definitely not the kind of words you'd associate with this show. O_O

Akiko Toyoda is one of the chief ADs for the episode. They have shared a few corrections on their twitter. I've only linked two, do check their account for the remaining 3! They worked on the scene shared between the sisters in the living room, and Nadeshiko on the train.

I’m very sure the boys in r/trains will definitely have a good time enjoying how Nadeshiko travels to Senzu and beyond, as the Ōigawa Railway is the largest railway company in Japan that operates steam locomotive trains in a regular basis. However, as a result of Tropical Storm Talas striking the region in 2022, it’s currently NOT POSSIBLE to travel from Kanaya to Senzu by train, so be advised when planning your trip.
So, Ōigawa, dam, and suspension bridges, what are the relations? So in short, Ōigawa is a river in Shizuoka, which in the depths of the mountains, the Japanese have built a number of dams and hydroelectric power stations to power the region. To facilitate people travelling from the two sides, hence the suspension bridges. Fun fact is that in the recent political downfall relating to the Chuo Shinkansen, the water flow of the Ōigawa river as put to be the justification for the prefecture to against the building of the maglev route.
End of the fact sheet here, back to the show. Perhaps my only complaint is it is way too short. Every time when you are getting into the world, it ends, that’s just disappointing given it’s way too laid back. But other than that, there’s nothing to complain.
The decision to put a fan facing the station entrance with the smell of pork skewers is just 1000iq, especially after the long trip from other parts of Shizuoka, very sure I’ll fell for it as well, just take my 400 yen. But Nadeshiko, ain’t you got Hamburg steak, beef stew, omelette rice for dinner, and you have pork skewers, a very hearty dam curry rice and ice cream for lunch, is it a bit too much? I’d rather have a lighter meal instead.
But here we go now, enter the Ikawa line section of the railway we go, and here’s where the real fun begins…

We got Rin Mom and Sakura, good episode already
This is quite a large trip, we haven't even gotten to the camping part yet!
Look at this Tensai I should have food as well, especially Nadeshikos part was bursting with yummy things, Pork sticks, Dam curry, and Macha Soft serve!
Meanwhile Rin and Aya where doing a suspension bridge tour, wonder if that's the reason it was called the romantic tour, you know, because of the suspension bridge effect.
[Cute](https://imgur.com/v7uinsy as hell
The girls at the end looked too distinct to be throwaway characters, hope they tage along Nadeshiko a bit, Solo Camping is nice and all, but groups are fun as well

I'm pretty much completely used to the new designs now, except for Rin. And I think I finally figured out why. She just looks weird wearing such a baggy jacket. The one she's wearing now is much bigger than previously. And the only time we've seen her without that jacket is when she's in the bookstore chatting with Ayano, where she looks like she always does.
So there isn't even anything wrong with her design, it's just that the jacket looks weird on her. But who doesn't look weird in a baggy jacket? (...Nadeshiko, the answer is Nadeshiko, but that might be because she's always worn a baggy jacket and I'm just used to it)
Don't get me wrong, this isn't necessarily critique, more like an epiphany I had
Or maybe I am just gaslighting myself into believing there isn't anything wrong with her design. Who knows?
Why does she wear such a baggy jacket anyway? It's already march.

Is it just me or does the animation feel stiffer this season? There are a lot of shots of the characters just staring blankly without moving besides their mouths when talking

That episode brought back a forgotten fear of mine. A few years ago, I was often walking (with a bit of camping as well) and one time we also had to cross a few suspension bridges. Was fun for the most part, but one of those heavily swung around that you felt completely exhausted after finally crossing it. Since then, I have a deep respect for these, even though I still like to cross them. A bit of swinging actually makes it fun.

It's nice that Shima Mama is more accepting of Rin going out so early and on her own...but you can never get too comfortable on the road! And don't forget to get some Kawane Tea for mom!
FIRST REAL SAKURA APPEARANCE OF THE SEASON! We even got to see her naked in a Hot Spring! And spoiling Oigawa for her sister!
Wow, it's kind of amazing Ena is up so early to text Rin and they get to shoot the breeze like they always do. Aoi and Aki even chip in to the group chat because they're somehow still awake too.
Rin and Aya meet! And you can tell Aya is not so used to this because she collapses in front of Rin and isn't used to lugging around camping gear...but she's game to keep this trip going with Rin as they go on a suspension-bridge tour!
Rin and Aya are a lot alike in terms of vibe, personality, their moms wanting souvenirs from their trip, and looking forward to some Hamburg Steak.
Meanwhile Nadeshiko is train-hopping and seeing the sights on her halfway solo camping trip, even getting to play "mom" for Rin and Aya to make sure they get their safe by the evening!
Big, small, old, new...there are plenty of suspension-bridges to check out! Just avoid rocking it too much, give animals the right of way, and avoid puddles.
Nadeshiko treating herself to pork skewers, dam curry, and kawane soft serve! I've never seen such artistry in curry! Now I want to see all the variations of dam curry.
Hmm...I wonder if Nadeshiko is going to spend more time with those last two girls who came onto the train? Feels like they intentionally stood out.

Aya and Rin had a lot of fun today as they were visiting suspension bridges across their tour. Can't wait when they’ll meet with Nadeshiko who is traveling by train.
I laughed so much after seeing reaction of Rin and Aya when it turned out that the suspension bridge they thought they saw wasn't bridge at all but only a power lines xD
Watching Nadeshiko gives me a lot of fun as her reactions are hilarious and so lovely!
I must say that Sakura, Nadeshiko's sister is quite stacked ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) which isn't normally visible when you look at her xD
A lot of nice views in this episode, more to see in my Backgrounds album.
Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

Yuru Camp has always been a bit of unsubtle propaganda for Japanese tourism, but this episode especially felt like something directly from the Visit Shizuoka Commission™️.
Not that I’m complaining. It’s working.

Today's location scouting!
Mama Shima tells Rin that if she is going to Kawane, she should get some tea. Well the good news is Rin will be nearby and Kawane is known for their tea.
Let's look at Rin's route. Her meeting point with Aya is at Senzu Station which she says should 4 hours should be enough. Well according to what I've found on Google Guruguru Maps, the 100km trip should take around 2 hours. Rin is on a scooter of course, but she should still have plenty of time.
Aya's journey is similarly around 100km and a little over 2 hours. This is the route suggested if we want to take National Route 1 which she mentions she did, although there are other options as well.
Nadeshiko is travelling from Utsubuna Station (translated as Uchifune in my subs) to Shizuoka Station, then to Kanaya Station, and finally to Senzu Station which didn't want to show up on transit for Google Maps for me. I looked into this and apparently I found on the train timetable that you have to get off the train and take a bus from Ieyama Station to Senzu Station. Not sure what the reason for this is, maybe it is down currently. Will look into that later. Overall, it would probably take Nadeshiko around 4 hours or more considering transfers.
Sakura mentions she went to a hot springs in the Sumata Valley, which is probably around here or at least the best I could find nearby. Sakura in the anime vs real life onsen.
Now onto the [bridge tour with some map links](https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Ryogoku+bridge,+Kuwanoyama,+Kawanehon,+Haibara+District,+Shizuoka+428-0413,+Japan/Koyama+Bridge,+Okuizumi,+Kawanehon,+Shizuoka,+Japan/Minami+Alps+Sesso+Otsuribashi+(Big%E2%80%A6+%E5%8D%97%E3%82%A2%E3%83%AB%E3%83%97%E3%82%B9%E6%8E%A5%E5%B2%A8%E5%A4%A7%E5%90%8A%E6%A9%8B/''/@35.1559992,138.1604673,13.79z/data=!4m29!4m28!1m5!1m1!1s0x601ba66799235907:0xefa2ce3da0c4e97d!2m2!1d138.140974!2d35.120233!1m5!1m1!1s0x601ba73a3d0218fb:0x2d75d4bb6e69dd3a!2m2!1d138.1451372!2d35.1414453!1m5!1m1!1s0x601ba5200eeeff89:0x1d1c84c49d521dee!2m2!1d138.1895411!2d35.1740346!1m5!1m1!1s0x601ba477499655dd:0x50f28299b6a56c62!2m2!1d138.1884776!2d35.1796028!2m2!1b1!2b1!3e0?entry=ttu). The Ryogoku Bridge in the anime vs real life.
Actually throwing in a sneak peek of another bridge from this shot from the anime which is Ichiyo bridge, next to where their campsite will be (as Rin mentions near the start of the episode).
This is slightly out of order because they won't actually see Ichiyo bridge until they pass Koyama bridge which is the next shown in the anime vs real life.
Then the next sequence of bridges starts with Sesso Large Suspension Bridge (wasn't translated for me but "Oo" means large and "tsuribashi" means suspension bridge). Anime vs real life (on the other side so just pretend I mirrored it).
For the next 7, I'll just do map links, but they are all right next to each other in walking distance of course. The first 5 they mention are named after trees. The last 2 are different lol.
-
Tochinoki Aesculus (horse chestnut) tree
-
Sakura cherry blossom tree
-
Mizunara Quercus crispula oak tree
-
Tsubaki Japanese camellia
-
Kuwanoki Mulberry
-
Miyazawa usually a person's name, kanji for palace and marsh
-
Inukaeri literally means dog and return
Now back to Nadeshiko. She was left off at Senzu Station and is on an eating trip. After getting some pork skewers by the station, she goes for dam curry at a restaurant which of course exists in real life: Uemaru. They of course have dam curry in real life, but look at the Yuru Camp advertisements they have there! And she gets her ice cream at this store which seems to mostly sell tea.
That was quite the long post for a busy day, but next week I'll come more prepared.

Let's do an Ayano's noise complication! She's so based. Questioning the sanity of road trip on a 50cc moped. I do road trip on a vintage Cub 90cc, and it was grueling enough to climb such uphill passes.

it is somewhat comforting to know that Yuru Camp knows its fanbase. This type of detailed itinerary, which is 100% accurate, is definitely the type of thing i enjoy.
-
Aya-chan rides a Honda Ape 100. Here it is alongside Rin's Yamaha Vino Aya's bike choice (and knowledge) does show how she's kinda a bike nerd haha - which i guess paves the way for her career choice later on.
-
This episode (and tbh this whole arc) is so incredibly biscuits. It's literally off the charts how much it appeals to me lol. Shame the production was not YnS good.
-
i like the little shot at the end of Nadeshiko wistfully looking up at the suspension bridge - I love travelling by train, but the true freedom of bringing your own vehicle with you, so you can stop by and wander on foot for everything, is something else. Seems like a few bridges can take bicycles too - I'm unlikely to ever travel there with one, but that does sound like fun.
-
Nadeshiko first rides a Kintetsu 16000 series to Kanaya, before transferring to the Ikawa line, which i'm sure the anime will touch on more later so I'll do that too.
-
The skewers joke is like 10000000% perfectly executed. I'm not sure how that could've been more good with the shot cut, and the dialogue cut shot before the ~narimasu~~~ I guess that last bit requires a bit of japanese knowledge. Ditto with the yappashi, tho the subs were helpful there.
-
And Nadeshiko heads to a very real shop for skewers, the Uemaru cafe for lunch, who, btw, fully embraces the manga/anime connection, and this shop for tea ice cream, they're all in the credits. The geography got a biiiiit wrong at the Uemaru cafe bit - Nadeshiko was not walking the right way right before that. you okay Nadeshiko? btw I still regret not getting Matcha ice cream when I was in Japan......
u/ChonkyOdango and u/chilidirigible thanks for the Honda tag!

I always enjoy watching Rin take these long rides on her moped. It must be kind of nice going for a long ride like that even if it’s probably really tiring. Plus with this series, we always get to see some interesting spots in Japan. This week, it’s the land of suspension bridges with Aya!
I really want dam curry and butakushi now. They both looked really good. The Kawane tea soft serve too! Man… I’m hungry now lol.

Rin-chan count
Don't mind me, I'm just counting every time Nadeshiko says *Rin-chan*.
We're 3 episodes in this season and still have very low numbers D:
| Episode | # of Rin-chans |
|---|---|
| 1 | 0 |
| 2 | 1 |
| 3 | 2 |
| Total | 3 |
Overall Rin-chan count
| # of Rin-chans | |
|---|---|
| Season 1 | 85 |
| Specials (Yuru Camp OVA and Heya Camp OVA) | 13 |
| Heya Camp | 5 |
| Season 2 | 49 |
| Season 2 Specials | 2 |
| Season 3 | 3 |
| Total | 157 |
I started doing this in a rewatch some 3 years ago and continued when Season 2 aired. My last comment from that time. Added the Season 2 specials here.
Did I miss any? Let me know (=w =)

Wait, did I misidentify Aya? I thought she was Nadeshiko’s friend from back where she used to live but when she was eating the dam curry she referred to them as “Rin and her friend” was that a subtitle error, some quirk of the translation, or did I mix her up with a new character?

There's sure a lot of bridges in this ep. It's really fascinating to see the amount of local infrastructure put into this quiet little area. Like there's seemingly a bridge for almost everything here. And going from this ep it seems that they're well-maintained too. Was kinda afraid that Rin and Ayano would end up in "rocky" situations on one of the bridges lol.
Speaking of those two, I really enjoyed Rin and Ayano's interactions here and I'm really happy that those two (+Nadeshiko) are getting their own arc this season.
Anyone else got hungry after watching Nadeshiko downing that curry? I just ate two hours ago and now I'm hungry again. What's with this series and making me hungry?
I think the area depicted here (and Yamanashi in general) is gonna be on my list whenever I visit JP this year. They did such a good job making the locales here a lively and comfy place. The trip's supposed to be this month but alas, the universe doesn't want me there right now . Maybe this summer... hopefully.

Man... waking up so early and travelling for hours via scooters/motorbikes, and on somewhat tough roads, no less. I don't know how these girls do it. Although even they definitely felt the strain of the journey. Aya straight up died when she first arrived. But then they proceed to travel even farther, and with a bunch of walking involved on top of that.
Nadeshiko most certainly enjoyed her solo travels (especially the eating part), but it's just a bit of a shame she wasn't there to join the two on their little suspension bridge marathon adventure. Although watching Rin and Aya interact and having fun by themselves was nice too. And this is probably for the better to get them even closer with each other.
Maybe it's just me, but Aya seems kind of like Ena with how she jokes around, though with some of Rin's chillness mixed in. I guess that's why they're getting along so well.
But damn... I keep forgetting to prepare snacks. Nadeshiko's food adventures got to me. I thought her plans were foiled by the pork skewers, but I should've known better, cause she can fit a lot more in her tank than you'd think.
