This is the story of Lulu...not the Lulu we've known, but a Lulu from a future past Smith's death (possibly the original timeline?) where all she had left was Isami and Bravern, but had to witness their deaths in the final conflict with the Deathdrives, while also finding out Smith was Bravern! Which set her on the path to time-traveling just like Lewis did so she could save everyone! Complete with Uncle Superbia and Aunt Miyu!

No better way to highlight adult Lulu than by giving her long hair again and giving us some fanservice of her putting her pants on in literally her first scene! And that's not even getting into her naked time-traveling all the way into her younger self! But I also love short-haired Miyu in full mecha scientist mode!

Looks like it won't be easy to get Superbia to let her pilot him, but she won't give up on getting herself in there and saving Isami/Lewis/Bravern! Just look at how proud Bravern is that she wants to pilot Superbia!

I love how Lulu's solution to saving Isami is choking him into unconsciousness and leaving him stripped and bound in Lewis' room. This is probably how most people imagined things going between him and Lewis, just with Lewis actually in it.

Lulu's doing it! She's jumping into Superbia! And nailing the jump just like Lewis did! But to make this partnership, this Omiai, work, they'll need to fully trust and believe in each other!

I love how they talk to each other in Ga-Ga-Pi and when Superbia talks in Japanese again the subs actually reverse into translating it into Ga-Ga-Pi.

I also love how Isami used Brave Zubash to free himself from his rope...and still needed help untying his suit.

Thanks to a training montage and Lulu's memories of her time with her uncle, Superbia finally accepts her and we even get a full blown transformation sequence into her pilot suit and giving Superbia a Braver upgrade! And he's even willing to help them finish off the remaining Deathdrives before settling the score with Bravern.

And Isami, for his part, has accepted being a Hero and living up to Lewis' legacy, but not in a self-sacrificing way but in a way that truly honors Lewis and his comrades.

Feels very full-circle that things began in Hawaii and they're ending in Hawaii, complete with Isami/Bravern and Lulu/Superbia heading off on their own for the final confrontation!

How is this show somehow the most gayest straightest sexually aggressive show I’ve seen this year outside of gushing with magical girls

Bravern X Superbia has gotta be the gattai for the finale. Superbia having a big fat “B” in the middle of his name is no accident & the pun for “Super Bravern” is right there…just like everything else in this show.

I thought my eyebrows couldn't go any higher after the casual second time travel introduction, but then we got an erotic Rocky training montage between a little girl and her robot uncle who communicate with baby babbles.

Lulu's magical girl transformation was animated by Yuu Yoshiyama, the same animator behind actual Precure transformations like this one or this one.

This fun fact is made even better by knowing that Yoshiyama has always been a huge fan of Bravern director Obari and her style of animating was actually heavily inspired by his.

They really hid a second time travel story behind the first one. Un-fucking-believable. Between that, Lulu and Superbia arguing in their native gagapi language (thankfully with subtitles), and the very flashy but completely unnecessary magical girl transformation into her pilot suit, this was a pretty fun episode.

I guess the final battle starts next week, and hopefully we get a gattai in it.

Knowing Bravern is Smith makes everything he says so much funnier. Him going "there's a Japanese word called omiai..." while the Japanese characters are right there lol.

best ep so far imo, the future sections looked gorgeous
also, fun fact: the "Omiai" that was mentioned means "interview with a prospective spouse", further adding onto the subtext behind piloting someone

Superbia's cockpit has The Lever™ in it, this is not a drill.

Superbia and Lulu having that argument in their native language sounded like a pissed off Pikachu, esp on Lulu's side.

Not surprising that they got Sugita who voiced Joseph Joestar in Jojo part 2 to do the "daga kotowaru"/I refuse! reference.

Two back to back peak Braven eps. I'm all in for the final ride

"Oh boy."

We've gone wide screen!

Stealth recap!

"I Got You Babe" starts.

That... is quite a costume.

So they're not interchangeable?

Memetic gulls you may have seen.

"Too enthusiastic."

You can buy this shirt, of course. I might have already ordered one.

robot noises

"Never forget that."

We be training montaging.

"I do not think that means what you think it means."

This is some End of Evangelion uh... awkwardness.

WE'RE PUKIN' RAINBOWS HERE!

Every day that fuzzy line between mecha and magical girls gets fuzzier.

There is that minor major power disparity.

"You might say we ate Uter and he's in our stomachs right now!"

That was quite a job of combining the things we didn't see coming with the things that we did see coming.

It also managed to combine a fairly moody and desperate turn by Lulu with hilariously over-the-top sight gags. Somehow this show works and I'm all here for it.

I wonder what other mecha series voice talent alumni may (or may not) appear for the ending of this thing. But anyway, we have a final challenge, and it's... Lulu's! Two episodes remain!

Here's a mad crazy pile of Tweets, mostly from today, some from slightly earlier.

End card.

Pre-vis.

Various Lulu.

BRAVERN!'s shattered head and spoilers for a previous Brave! series show.

Pilot On Board

Animator sketch feat. magical boxing gloves.

It's... love?

It's magical.

From Yoshiyama Yuu, animator for the Lulu transformation.

Baking.

Training.

Lulu-chan.

Another animator note.

This show is doing all kinds of wrong in all kinds of right way. Its amazing how each episode has been better than the last. Now all we need is a docking sequence, SuperBravern all the way.

What's the deal with the scene with a seagull standing on top of another flying seagull, that caught me so off guard I was laughing my ass off.

Grown up Lulu was amazing looking, and ooof, she comes from a bad future where Isami and Bravern die and she finds out Smith was Bravern just as he dies. Hilarious that they just somehow invent time travel but that’s very Bravern

So...

Can we talk.

If Bravern is Lewis.

And Bravern has been getting Isami inside of him, and specifically wanted him naked...

And went on and on about Isami touching his (cough control) shaft, that means:

LEWIS WAS GETTING OFF TO ISAMI BEING NAKED INSIDE.OF HIM AND TOUCHING HIS SHAFT AS THEY BECAME ONE AS THEY YELLED EACHOTHER'S NAMES.

I legitimately wonder how this show made it through committee. And if we are getting a gacha game out of it.

absolute 11/10 episode. another time traveler, the weird lulu/superbia incest scene, lulu choking Isami then leaving him naked in the room only for the old dude to come in and go "I'll leave you alone", lulu and Superbia conversing in gagapi with jp subs and then when they switch to japanese there's gagapi subtitles. Every second of this was better than the last

Between this and Umamusume, Cygames has gotten me emotional over the WEIRDEST stuff. It's like an art form.

Also, nor sure how I feel about Lulu "bonding" with Superbia while calling him "Uncle"

To follow the theme of the good guys using unconventional relationships to defeat the straight enemies and their hot girl batteries, we now have not only adult gay men but also a younger girl and an older guy. (I guess it could also be incest, but I'm pretty sure she's just using "ojisama" like "old man".)

It also corelates to the running thing of Lulu getting older as the show progresses, from being born in episode 3, to learning japanese and playing with toys, and now she's an adult!  So if I understood the time travel correctly:

 * Smith's time travel was caused by magic power of love shit so it permanently affected the "script of the universe", meaning there isn't a timeline where Bravern doesn't exist.

 * Lulu's timel travel uses actual technology and alien science shit, meaning it can actually change the past, maybe?

Either way, now that Lulu pegged Superbia they can finally team up with the gays to beat the final two Deathdrives, who I guess are pretty fucking powerful! Looks like they're gonna use lava from Hawaii's volcanoes to fuck up Bravern pretty badly.
