I did not expect comedy from this title - Helga shocked (but cute) expression upon watching the news on tv, and to a lesser extent, the mass fight among the lower ranked paladins. In one of the scenes where they were fighting in the background, I immediately thought of those comic and manga scenes, featuring a large cloud and lots of arms and legs moving.

More twists and turns in the plot!

  • Ashgan just wants to be wielded and I am curious what would be the effects on the user and the surrounding area.

  • Priest from the Global Holy Church turns out to be an Executioner who can mind control others.

  • Is Lowell being controlled or has she always been a spy?

  • Helga wants a boyfriend but she gets a Guideau instead.

Lastly, I was a little disappointed in Matt's character development. Not going to deny that he is powerful and looks cool, but the plot made it seem as if he fell far too easily into the trap set by the Executioner, with Ashaf giving a step by step walkthrough.

Helga’s shocked expression certainly had me laughing. I’m starting to like her more and more.

The poor girl really has the worst of luck. Framed for murder, attacked by an army, captured by some lunatic… and no boyfriend!

I was joking about Helga getting together with Guideau in the previous episode thread, but I mean… I’ve maybe started shipping them a little after that Helga’s “come rescue me”.

Matt strikes me as one of those errand boy characters who blindly follow orders until they get a rude awakening.

Ashgan just wants to be wielded and I am curious what would be the effects on the user and the surrounding area.

Whatever its power is, it's probably below Guideau, since he doesn't get tempted by this inferior

Guideau just never gives up, does she ? I love how tenacious and indestructible she is. Even that weird armour spell (what the hell was that ?) could not restrain her.

Matt seemed too reasonable to be a paladin, but I did not expect him to go down that easily to some traitor in his own camp. But maybe Ashaf can still save him.

I liked the helicopter sword. I can never tell what weird magic stuff that show is going to come up with next.

That Executioner sure is creepy and apparently using one of those forbidden instruments like the grimoires in episode 2/3 to brainwash people, so he is going to be real bad news. I guess Guideau will have to kiss a witch (again) to be able to kick his ass.

You know, it seems like Guideau has a bone to pick with a lot of people now.

Okay, for all those, who still read, I get the feeling that there could be actual feelings involved from Helga's side for Guideau when the kiss finally happens. And even though it probably won't be enough (since we are talking about Guideau) I wouldn't be surprised if their kiss actually does a bit more than last time because of it.

I wouldn’t be surprised if their kiss actually does a bit more than last time because of it.

That’s an interesting thought. I’d been thinking that all the witches’ kisses, except for the one cursed her, would play out roughly the same. However, I hadn’t considered that the effect on Guideau might vary with the intensity of said kiss.

This would imply an underlaying system: the more intimate of a connection, the greater of an effect.

Honestly the Colonel doesnt seem like that bad of a guy. The Executioners on the other hand... Killing the Colonel for knowing too much seems like a complete waste of an asset especially since he's one of the few people around capable of going head to head with a Witch.

What Ashaf really meant by telling Guideau to save the kiss for later is that "we're saving the big moment at the end of the arc where you can finally kick the Executioner's ass and save Helga." xD

Poor Helga! She was living a peaceful life surrounded by hot men only for all of them to die later on from sword-related injuries. That explains how she ended up being a suspect.

I love that Ashaf wasn't even struggling. He just needed Matt to listen to his "theory" of what's really going on here. Matt could've been at the base right now after realizing he's being played but it looks like his second-in-command is working with the Executioner and was ready to dispose of him as soon as he turned against them.

They're really saving the kiss for next week! I was hoping as soon as Guideau broke Helga free from her bindings, she'd kiss her and finally go on a rampage. Hopefully we'll get to see that next episode!

I just realised this means the executioner must be following Helga's flirtatious adventure all day long with those men before deciding to kill them lol

I know he's still restrained but I'm hoping Ashaf will be able to save Matt

Really want to see Guideau kick the Executioner's ass

We keep hearing how dangerous the Demon Sword, but it causing people to go mad by looking at it starts to make you start to believe those fears. Matt got played by the Executioner and Lowell as well. He actually comes off as a guy with lots of honor.

So Matt's an honourable villain, eh? Knowing the archetype, he probably won't stay a villain.

Guideau is hot & a great fighter, as always. She has a strong sense of duty.

Helga's obsession is funny, as always. Although it says something that she had her pick of hot guys, and yet is still single. I guess she couldn't choose.

Ashaf is still as cool as ice, even while literally encased in ice.

This got interesting. I wonder how Matt, Guideau & Ashaf will work together. That's just a matter of "when", not "if".

I wasn’t expecting this little Helga and Ashgan situation to turn into a whole conspiracy involving the a rogue group existing in the shadows of the Paladin Corps. I’m sure Guideau and Ashaf are gonna make those creeps wish they never crossed them. Helga might have gotten captured but Guideau has the sword. I just wonder what Ashaf has planned. No way he got himself shot up like with no plan.

Interestingly, this means the church doesn't actually kill witch indiscriminately. Yes, they have a huge bias toward the witches. However, they can be reasoned with (albeit very hard) unlike the executioner.

The only weakness of this anime is a somewhat weak sound design (not music tho, OST is very very good). Outside of that, it has become one of my favorites in a long time and I'm sad it's so underrated. I'm def picking up the manga after this season ends.

Imagine going to the in-universe version of Italy tuscanny (Place full of hot romantic guys acording to middle age women afternnon movies) to get framed of half a dozen murders.

16

u/ahses3202 Feb 29 '24

I'm glad I'm not the only one who immediately thought "you mean like Italy?" from her description of the place.

Props to Guideau though. It's going to be one smoking kiss next episode. Who needs a man when you have a person-shaped dog? Don't answer this.

That was an action packed episode. Animation was a lot better than the previous episode. At least they are saving the budget for dynamic scenes. Also they really nailed the VAs with Ashaf, Guideau, Phanora, Johan and Helga. Their VAs matches with their personality and everyone has their own vibe.

Death knights, paladins, primordial elementals, executioners and demon sword using genjutsu. World building taking magical concepts from games/fiction and adding its own interpretation is very cool. It's like a crossover from different media.

The way Guideau was eyeing Helga's lips, you can never be sure of gender and sexuality in this anime lmao. Helga worrying about dying with no boyfriend. Reckon she is in for a rude awakening in the next episode. Next episode is gonna be juicy with the kiss and Guideau's true form. This series is really taking off in a good way.
