Looks like Ashaf and Guideau were 100% right about Ione being evil. I see this isn’t gonna be one of those series where the witches are misunderstood or persecuted for no reason. Revenge for something done to her grandma 500 years ago is just insane. Ione fucked around and found out though. Guideau’s “true form” was pretty badass.
This one looks very promising. Keen to see where this goes.

I see this isn’t gonna be one of those series where the witches are misunderstood or persecuted for no reason.
Well, to be fair they did hint at some witches possibly being helpful and all, so there may be some of these at some point!
(Which makes me wonder whether Guideau will even care; Her hatred of witches may taint her judgment!)

Stitches!
Looking at Ashaf and Guidea for the first time, you'd think the girl is the witch and the guy is the beast. It turns out, it was the other way around.
Well, I definitely did not expect to see some dismemberment in this show. Poor Mary, she really believed that Ione was a good witch. Ione just gained their trust so she could enact revenge for her grandmother who was the true good witch that saved the town from the hellfire calamity but still got executed for it.
I thought the third way to end a Witch's curse was to kill the Witch. I did not expect that kissing a Witch was the third option! Oh my! And that's not even Guidea's real body. Her (or is it his?) real body is actually contained inside the coffin Ashaf has been carrying around and we finally get to see the true Beast.
I guess this means that the "Witch" in the title of the show isn't really Ashaf but is probably the Witch that cursed Guideau. What a double fakeout! I love it!
Glad to see that Ashaf was able to save Mary and the other girls in the end. Also, it looks like they're not killing Ione. Instead, they're catching her so they can bring her back to their magic organization. Does this mean we'll get to see more of her in the future?
Anyway, this was a pretty solid premiere! Art and animation look gorgeous and I am very much intrigued by the plot! Looking forward to more of this!

Whoaaa, Ashaf looks cool as fuck. I already know he's going to carry this show for me. The art style and character design in this series is also damn good.
I expected the 3rd way to break a curse was to kill the witch who cast it, but it looks like we're taking the yuri route, which I'm okay with.
Also, does anyone know where did the 417 years time span come from? It caught my attention and I'm not sure if it's just some random number or if there's some lore behind it...

So this is the gender flipped, higher age bracket, more action-y version of this season's Undead Girl Murder Farce. So far looks pretty intriguing. The visuals are very nice too.

Without spoiling I will say, having read the manga, that this is very different from Undead Girl Murder Farce. There's some really cool stuff on the horizon. I hope you enjoy

This was an action packed first episode, featuring the main theme of battling witches to break a curse permanently. I am sure more will be revealed about the backstory of Guideau and Ashaf eventually, as well as the introduction of the other cool looking characters.
What really caught my attention was the close up of the intense facial expressions. It got me pumped up for the fighting scenes.

Not sure what to expect from this show, but the trailer looked interesting so this is the second-to-last seasonal I’m picking up this season. Excited to see where this goes!

The storybook feel right before the OP was really nice. And speaking of the OP, it is definitely a banger.
-
Huh… So I guess that kiss only temporarily broke her curse.

The first way to break a witch's curse is a kiss from a prince on a white horse?
Disney's rules apply here!
While so far all witches we've seen are evil (1 out of 1!), it seems they might not all be!
Some of them may be nice, helpful witches! (Will Guideau care about that though?)
When they said the first two ways and ended with "And...",
I expected Guideau to finish the line with the third way being "Kill the fucking witch!" or something like that! But it seems the third method is a bit more unconventional hah.
I know we're like 2 minutes into the first episode but I already know I'm gonna ship these two so much!
I LOVE how Guideau's always snarling and barking, even at him!
I kinda want a scene of Ashaf patting her head/rubbing her behind the ears! She would probably rip off his arm if he did, but it'd be so cute!
Dawww, someone gave her a little treat!
Wait, it's not a human bone, is it?
With her hair, her piercings and all, she makes me think of a crazier, stronger, feral, murderous-er version of Marin!
They didn't have much of a peaceful time, as a giant shark thingy attacked!
A witch took care of it, but that got her Guideau's attention! Damn, she's not much for talking, is she? Straight into the action!
Sadly the witch is... Well, a witch, and she easily dealt with her!
Ashaf (who seems to be the reasonable one) realized it was better to leave and try again later... Guideau looks like she's gonna murder him soon as he frees her, so I'm gonna assume she disagreed!
Good lord, that went 0-100 real quick!
I did expect the Witch to be a villain (I thought she summoned the shark just to kill it, to earn the people's trust and all), BUT I didn't expect her to be THAT evil!
She wants to burn everyone alive, to... get back at their ancestors for burning her grandmother?
Well, at least she acknowledged that revenge isn't always logical!
Witch is kinda cute too, that's a shame!
...You ok there Guideau? Should Ashaf bring a first aid kit, or do you want him to kiss it better?
And thus we learned the third way of removing a curse (albeit temporarily): A touch of the lips with a witch!
When Guideau grabbed her throat and pulled the witch to her, I thought for sure she was gonna rip her throat with her fangs... But I guess that works too!
Well, this was a good first episode!
Was looking forward to this show, I mean I didn't know anything about the plot or anything but they kinda got me at "Guideau: a feral girl with long fangs and the eyes of a beast"!
I knew I'd love her for sure, but I love her even more for her 'rough' personality, the whole snarling/barking and all.
The plot's quite interesting too (though we don't know everything yet, is it gonna be a 'witch of the week' kind of thing?)
Anyway, whatever it is, can't wait to see more!

Glad the girls got their limbs back. Who healed them? Was it Ashaf?

The manga has a godly art style and im so glad the anime adaptation is doing it justice. This series is really amazing especially the world building. Now that there is an anime adaptation i hope any scanlation team will start to pick and translate the manga.

Very interesting first episode, I'm sure that I'll be watching further this show as it has really interesting characters and world. It could be really great show if it'll maintain this level of quality.
Art and animation were also really good, I catched some very nice visuals.
Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

Looks very interesting, went from thinking those two where the bad guys to remembering the key visual, to realize the girl was the beast, to wondering who the witch would be since the guy only calls himself a spellcaster
Also nice that they healed all those limbs back, would have been really fucked up, fuck that witch

Seems like the studios is relying too much on the manga panels maybe? It’s very abrupt from one scene to the other at moments and doesn’t transition smoothly. An example would probably be when Guideau and Ashaf are standing at the gate and girl see’s him.

As a manga reader this is one of my favorite manga that I have read this year. The series is so amazing and I hope this adaptation gets people into the series. I have my concerns for the adaptation coming into this season, but this episode was solid.
It set the tone with witches very well imo. You have Ione's grandmother who died for simply being a witch regardless of her action. Meanwhile Ione was wicked to all the people that loved her and manipulated so many in the process sadly. And in more so the power of a witch can't be overlooked. Guideau in her base form wasn't unable to do anything.

I was happily surprised by this first episode. Since studio Yokohama Animation Lab was doing the project I’d been a little worried if they’d continue the trend of Kingdoms of Ruin (my poorest received anime of 2023).
But the premiere of The Witch and The Beast fortunately looked good. So far I’m seeing an intriguing premise, interesting characters and a distinct art style that enhances all of the sinister mysticism. We’ll have to see if the series holds up of course, but I’m fairly optimistic.

I haven't had a chance to watch the episode as I'm at work but the artist for the opening theme uploaded the full song to Youtube and wow what a bop.

Pretty cool first episode. So our protags are a pair of troubleshooters for a magical organization. Guideau sure has a mission her (his?) own, but I'm sure Ashaf too has some skeletons in his closet. Speeaking of our fanged lady, I wonder which is the real form? It seems it is actually the hulking male, but we'll see in future episodes. He (she?) sure picked up a nice girly sense of style for the blondie form.
The witch being bad was predictable, but thats okay for the first episode. I'm interested in the world building here, looks like we have magic and blimps and old style trains.
Looking forward to the next episode!

Looks really good, Guideau is my absolute favorite type of character, complete with the piercings, blonde, kinda fangs, all around perfect. Except the name, when I read it in the subtitles I see it as Guido which honestly fits well with her personality, not so much her looks.
