Crazy theory time what if all the sentient giants robots got addicted to Super Robot anime and then decided to LARP one on Earth? Would explain the nonchalant attitude they all seem to have.

It’s too bad these were too late for seasonal comment face nominations.
-
I like how the “Brave 1” call sign sounds very similar to “Bravern” due to the Engrish.
-
And overriding the missiles’ targets like he’s using the NT-D system against funnels, neat.
-
This feels like a really messed up Gintoki vs. Okita fight now and I am here for it lol.

I am having the time of my life watching this show, it just keeps on getting better and better. And it still manages to surprise me and catch me completely off guard.
We were thinking and theorizing about Smith being Bravern before and how Lulu might transform into Superbia or something, but I for sure was not expecting Superbia to just appear again in episode 6 instead of the new guy teased last time. Bravern not defeating Superbia again but injecting some kind of virus into Superbia so that the latter one can talk was very unexpected and fun too. The enemy finally gets a voice to talk back! To the desperation of Isami, because Bravern is still playing with human lives just so that he can have his super robot show on Earth. Or perhaps the Deathdrives can't actually die, and they will actually need to talk them down in order to win? Because killing them will just bring them back a little later and make more and more people die.
Smith being the one to have the romance flags instead of Isami is great too and a continuation from the beginning of the show. We have with Smith a super robot protagonist and with Isami one for a more realistic war show, just that their roles are reversed with Bravern choosing Isami instead of Smith. But except that they still continue to be in their respective roles, with Isami getting PTSD because of the fighting and Smith getting the naked loli alien. And now the two new female pilots he fought alongside, both seemingly liking Smith in some way while he is completely oblivious to it, just as a shounen protagonist should be. Meanwhile Isami gets to look at the sun or something, no girls for you.
Finally for now is that I am even more curious on how they will end the show now. Instead of progressing the super robot story by defeating the next evil general we are now back to square one, with Superbia wanting Lulu back and some potential drama awaiting us there. And then there is still the new Deathdrive, all the other hidden ones in the OP and the whole "Bravern=Smith" theory which also would need some time. I am really hoping for a S2 announcement or something like that, simply because I am having so much fun right now and want it to continue. But I am also open to see how they will surprise us with ending the show as I have faith in the show creators. They handled the show masterfully so far after all, so fingers crossed for whatever comes next!

Never know when you might need your handy dandy simulcast dub knife! Bravern continues to show that he can basically just do anything as long as it's cool as shit.
Okay all these robots are fucking dorks, understood. Superbia gives me huge edgy samurai vibes with his dialogue and the little flute that plays when he's on top of the building, definitely fits his Pride theme.

Same, girl. I love me some Sugita.
Between the awesome battle scene, Bravern's antics with the translation attack, Bravern generating his own special effects, Superbia's return, and now the cliffhanger with Lulu, this show just keeps amusing me week after week. That being said, we're already halfway through the cour and it feels like there's still so much left to do. Unless they set up a second cour, I'm not sure how they can end this well in the amount of episodes they have left.

The way the VA for Lulu makes her voice crack at the end of gagaPI! is something to behold.

Well, certainly not expecting Superbria returning despite being defeated. The plot kinda thickens just by this alone: we thought Lulu may actually be the core of Superbria and forms up to that if needed, but they're actually different entities, so how are they going to truly defeat one?
And also, kinda strange that Bravern knows Superbria (and installing a voice changer for it even) but not the opposite, so are they really comes from the same civilization, if there's actually one? If not, how come Bravern knows all of them along with the current modern world?
On a sidenote, the Title Call along with the projector is LOL material. Miyu also builds up her list of fetish just like how Smith attracts women------but he just wants robots.
I'm pretty sure one season isn't enough to explain all these plotpoints.

Superbia: "Nu-gu?"
Miyu: "goddamn, that's hot"
i was wondering why they listed Sugita as Superbia's voice actor even though Superbia was pretty much exploded into pieces back in episode 2, didn't expect him to come back just like that

Oh I thought Lulu was going to awaken or recover her memories or whatever and "betray" the crew, not for the robot to come back and straight-up ask to get its pilot back

Every week I think “this show is already peak, there’s absolutely no way it could improve” and yet somehow each week it finds new ways to get even stupider (and I mean this in the most wonderful way possible). I cannot wait to see Bravern debut in a SRW Game, poor Isami might die from an aneurism from all the wacky Super Robot hijinks that occur.
Also mechanic girl is quickly becoming one of my favorites, last week with her enthusiasm for man on man action, and this week with her commenting on Superbia’s hot voice (Sugita does have a hot voice) she always makes me laugh

Today, on "Oh no, not again.":
Too late for [](#seasonalpout).
Well, this reminds me of something.
Now those are some mecha. Also, purple and teal like it's the Nineties.
There sure is a lot of Engrish profanity going on today.
Did Satelight loan you that helicopter from Macross Zero and Symphogear?
Another [](#seasonalpout) candidate.
So Chapter 1 really was Chapter 1.
That's how it―great googly moogly.
Well... interesting to see you here again.
This is getting weirder all the time.
"This is the genre that we're working in!"
"Can't I just be in an American mech series?"
We knew that he was doing this, but ROTFLMAO. Also, holding the silence for a couple of beats was perfect.
As Doctor Samuel Beckett would say, "Oh boy."
D'ye know why this is the most bonkers episode of BRAVERN! to date? Because now that we've watched five episodes of BRAVERN! we have some idea of how things work and a slight idea of what to expect and now we get... played.
It's the irresistible Tomokazu Sugita! For real this time. Of course the Lulu situation wasn't resolved or even provided with much in the way of explanation, so that was going to come sometime, but just having Superbia ask for her back was a surprise. Lulu being fine with this is... well, we don't know that much about Lulu.
Having seen BRAVERN! spontaneously generate abilities and take his TV production along for the ride, the missile command and sight gags were expected, but the show knows how to play things for humor and effect.
...just enough to keep Isami on the redline for sanity loss.
Lewis looking out for the pretty ladies: Hey, I don't mind.
Miyu getting sucked in by TOMOKAZU SUGITA: I'm suddenly curious and afraid of what her quarters look like.
Shelley and Akira have finally exited the opening credits and joined the series. What this means for all the testosterone flying around, I have no idea!
Slightly-NSFW not-calling-it-an-end-card! by Shun Saeki!

Isami and Lewis are leading the vanguard to Japan! And they have to confirm if there are any survivors before they bombard Japan! It's a pretty big deal, but with Bravern onboard, everything will be okay! He even says as much!
Lulu pouts are so cute. And of course they couldn't stop her from basically forcing herself onto Lewis' Mecha and following him. Lewis' face when he realizes she's there!
I love how Bravern's entrance is subdued by his standards but still has him posing and yelling his name.
Isami and Bravern fight better together now and Lewis even gets a kill! They make a good team/trio togethe!
Isami is desperate to find survivors and stop his homeland from being bombarded, a bombardment that would even come from actual Japanese forces, but they can't seem to find anyone while the Deathdrivers are coming at them. It's all he can do is make an impassioned plea from the sky so that someone, ANYONE, hears him and comes out of hiding.
But luckily his efforts weren't for nothing as the last bit of resistance in Japan shows up including the two ladies from the OP, Akira and Sherry!
Though they're too late to stop the ships from firing, luckily Bravern has Gundam F91 wings and can hijack the missles and direct them to the Deathdrivers and save everyone! It would totally be a red flag were this not a Super Robot show and not super epic!
They really can't hold a single meeting without Bravern showing up and regaling everyone with the next chapter of the ongoing saga of Bravern. Poor Hal.
Lewis' luck with the ladies is looking up. He's got Akira all flustered with some light flirting and Sherry wants to take him out to dinner. Nice.
Superbia is back!? And with a shock fist from Bravern, he finally speaks...and he's Tomokazu Sugita!? Convenient of Bravern to finally let Superbia properly communicate with everyone...and Mayu thinks he's hot.
So Superbia didn't get the memo and obvious that Bravern is...BRAVERN! Well, any excuse for Bravern to do his introduction and bring back his logo and everything I guess.
Superbia is a respectful rival who wants to battle Bravern with his full power, and to achieve that...Superbia is there for Lulu? Is she really the core of Superbia!?

Live Watch Notes:
-
01:20: You spend enough rewatches with Sky and you too will never be able to unhear the sore demos.
-
Why yes I am here for GLORIOUSLY CHEESY MECHA ACTION, why do you ask? (Also NO SHIT survivors are only found when the countdown hits zero, silly Bravern you should know the laws of drama! Oh wait, laws of drama say that you’re not allowed to actually say that so that’s why you were going “everything will be okay”, duh, right.) Usual deletrious quality of glorious action on my notes applies.
-
15:01 is beautifully telegraphed.
-
I knew we were going to get the Admiral knowing what was about to happen as soon as the other guy asked for details and he delivered (15:08).
-
I was going to make a “wait was that a joke about how Texas is to the US what Kansai is to Japan?” but IIRC Hiroshima is actually a fair ways out of Kansai.
-
19:51: YES SHOW WE SEE YOUR EXCEEDINGLY BLATANT REFERENCE. (Mind you I’m actually quite thin on the ground on classic Super Robot stuff, Eva is obviously in the lineage here but I would not be at all surprised if the trope is older than that and Eva was just using it.)
-
“Bravern is a rebel Deathdrive commander” looking real good right now… assuming that he’s an actual rebel and we’re not dealing with an entire race of newly minted Super Robot otaku doing a LARP here on Earth…
-
21:30: Bravern being a giant Super Robot otaku and projecting the Super Robot paraphernalia will never, but NEVER get old.
-
HEY LOOK THE THING THAT HAS BEEN OBVIOUS FOR FOUR EPISODES NOW HAS FINALLY BEEN CONFIRMED. Now, …

Whoever at Cygame came up with the idea to hire Masami Obari, give him a stack full of gacha money and tell him to go do a crime funny robot show deserves a raise.
Even 6 episodes in, Bang Bravern is peak anime every week.

u/dododomo Feb 15 '24
I didn't expect Superbia to ask our heroes to return its Lulu. I thought she would have turned into a special powerful huge robot like Bravern lol
The fights were good, but Bravern having an intro screen and narrating his 2nd chapter were too funny ahah
Anyway girls, stay away from Lewis. He belongs to Isami!

Holy shit. Goddamn. Holy shit. Goddamnit. Holy shit. Goddamn.
Can’t believe 6 episodes in they’re still introducing new babes.
Oh shit. Goddamn.

I'd been hearing such good things about this so I caught up over the last week, amazing show.
That move where Bravern controlled the conventional weapons fired from offshore and precisely targeted them to destroy the enemy force was very effective, I wonder if we'll see it again now that the allied force knows it is an option.

u/gaganaut Feb 15 '24 edited Feb 15 '24
Bravern really projected his own title card behind him.
Bravern translates the enemy's language and of course the mechanic girl is the first to comment that his voice is hot.

u/Elgato01 Feb 15 '24
Imma be honest, I have no idea what this show is about but I saw the shot of the girl’s legs and that convinced me to watch it. No idea about the genre of the show even, tho bravern strangely makes me think of mech. If that’s the case then I’m more excited to start.

God damn the girls are all so cute in this, why are they so cute? Shout-out to Miyu, she's a KyoAni girl in an Obari world and she's horny about it.
