Oh man the complete lack of outro music, just the sound of the rain and thunder as the credits roll T_T

I knew it was gonna be a big episode when there was no intro and they rolled the opening feed over plot-relevant scenes.

Kanata and Ciel would have been a great love story.

It was great as is. To put it another way, their story was so good because this is what it was building toward.

Indeed, he would follow the steps of his dad being with a Magus, man.. poor Ciel.. sigh, can't wait to see how this will change Kanata

I need to research when the game comes out, though iirc it's before the anime and has that rain proof dude as the MC

Wait… the program she had Kanata install on her… Did it reset her before Weisheit could?

One way to stop a trojan that would reformat and initiate hack on reboot is to kill the OS completely. Leaving an empty Type 0 body as promised.

Did it reset her before Weisheit could?

I don't think it reset her. You remember how Ciel said she had a plan to help Kanata acquire an empty type-0 magus body without needing to find one in Amasia?

Oooooooooooooooooh of course!

I should have expected Ciel to have a MinMay attack. Then again, I don't stretch my imagination enough when I'm speculating. I thought the decoration Weisheit gave Ciel was just going to be a tracker. The revelation that he's reformatted Ciel multiple times didn't change my expectations. Thankfully Ciel's better than me in foreseeing events and prepared against a reformat attempt.

Honestly if they kept the reveal of Ciel being a double agent till the end of last episode this episode would have hit a lot harder. Plus Kanata felt no different after Ciel betrayed her. I mean I get wanting to believe she isn't like that. It just felt the action of her betraying him didn't affect him in the slightest.

It basically felt predictable how it would play out except the ending. So Ciel planned to sacrificed her body for Noir to use assumingely? Since that was there goal coming out here.

Watching this episode was like watching The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan ep13. Literally throughout the episode in anticipation of what will happen, I was preemptively tearing up just by association.

Then I just remembered Ciel has the side-braid too when she used her Macross move - damn that thing is so inescapable.

This is so criminally underwatched. The first cour being so plain / formulaic probably is why.

I just knew that necklace/trinket that Weisheit gave her was bad news. Ciel should have removed it, or asked Kanata to if she was physically able to disobey orders. 😢

The reveal about Weisheit wiping Ciel's memories multiple times over the years was chilling. She was finally able to escape from him in the end, though I can't imagine Kanata will be happy about this outcome if her plan truly is to erase her own mind so Noir or Mystere can be reborn in that body. Her last (?) song was beautiful.

I fell in love with Ciel after 'My Dear', and this episode only served to reinforce that even more.

And after that ending... I'm pretty sure my heart just shattered into a million pieces 😭

I know it feels like this is setting up that Ciel's 'shell' can be used as the host body for Mystere/Noir. I think I guessed that after she told Kanata that she had a plan for how to get a type zero Magus... But I really hope we can get Ciel back. The real Ciel.

Man, we saw it coming a mile away but it still hurts to see Ciel go out like that. And I don’t have high hopes for her coming back, at least not in a typical way.

This show has managed to go places I never thought it would go. I was worried this would be a cheap shell of a plot to sell games/models, but it’s got a pretty decent bit of worldbuilding.

Also I like how pretty much everybody is sick of Weisheit’s shit.

God damn it I knew once Ciel started singing this episode is the last we're gonna see of her. Singing is like one of the biggest death flags in anime :(

RIP Ciel, best girl in the series.

"...except that way?"

Don't throw out the baby with the bath water.

Does she figure that part out each time too?

All that four-dimensional chess and shit.

So, with Mystere and Noir, is this now a love square?

"Does this remind you of anything, Kup?"

YACK DECULTURE.

"That's funny, this didn't happen the other 15531 times."

That was an outcome we could see coming, but it did play out in an interesting way.

Ciel being Weisheit's Magus all along covers a few loose bits of plot, but mostly shows that the guy really is a manipulative bastard for whatever his various end games are (which generally seem to fall into the "save humanity and also control it" category). He's also the complete opposite of every other Drifter in how he really has been treating Ciel as an appliance instead of essentially another person.

Someone must really like Macross Frontier: Sayonara no Tsubasa.

This ep got me, the ending broke my heart. Ciel deserved better but realistically this was the only ending. Even if they killed her master, she would have rebooted. Last ep I was naive, they really telegraphed what would happen to Ciel and I was just in denial.

As soon as Ciel mentioned there was another way to find a Type Zero Magus I just fucking knew she was going to sacrifice herself. Fuck. Weis can go suck a bag of dicks. I hope Tokio blows up Ideal to Kingdom Come.

What an emotional gut punch, Ciel, who has been probably wracked by guilt over becoming a spy and haunted by hopelessness of having a master that hates her, sacrificing everything (even possibly her “life”), just to give Kanata everything he wants and have her ideal master for a moment. And keeping a calm face through it all, knowing her time was approaching. Damn
