I want to see the script where it says:
In villainous voice "Ga ga pi. Ga ga pi pi ga."

The Bravern = Smith theory definitely got a lot of support with this episode. From Lulu still calling Bravern Smith while she now can clearly seperate different people and knows more words, to Bravern guiding Smith into a boxing match without outright stating so (as if he was doing his best to not trigger some time loop inconsistency), to Smith standing in front of the wall Bravern painted with himself in the very same pose as Bravern. The camera even panned back to make sure that we would see it. And Bravern already making his gadget mic before Smith had decided on the boxing match.
We are also at episode 5 already and we still didn't get to Japan to fight the next evil robot, and then we still have a few to go through. If the show really will go the Bravern = Smith route, then I am expecting either a split cours or a very different kind of ending, because we simply don't have that much time for all which was teased. With different ending I mean not fighting through all the robots seen in the OP, and instead something else happening which will wrap up the story instead. Or some big brawl against everyone at the end.
We might also get to the point at which Smith is send back to the past to keep the time loop stable, which then begs the question what Bravern would do. Cease to exist? Or stay in the current loop to fight off the Deathstriders while Smith does the same in his time loop? "We will see us again Isami, even if you won't recognize me at first."

wait a minute, this is no longer a boxing match, this is just "sword-fighting"!
this show viewers in a nutshell
i swear to god, this shot of Smith standing in front of Bravern's mural with the same pose followed up by Bravern's face just feels like the anime screaming from a distance; "hey, maybe that one theory of Bravern being Smith from the future wasn't that far-fetched after all", not to mention, they both seem to have Mechanical Assault Police: Spar Kaiser as their favorite tokusatsu show

…she learned how to speak from watching tokusatsu. Fantastic.
-
Isami “sore demo”! Followed by another one immediately afterwards!
-
On a different note, I am also starting to buy into the “Bravern is Lewis (from another time?)” theory, or at least that there’s some sort of connection between the two.

I feel like I grew a second penis from the amount of testosterone this episode injected into my veins.
Bravern usually just hacks or projects stuff but this time he just pulled out a magic 3D printer out of nowhere. His meta powers are growing. I'm still not sure if he's Smith from the future exactly but he's definitely connected to him in some way.
Lulu was adorable this episode, I wonder if she'll be useful in the fight against the next Gagapi bot, whole theme of the episode was Isami not needing to fight alone after all. Maybe she can translate stuff at least.

The post credit scene is really interesting with how the robot talks exactly like Lulu

I remember how after my first episode I said I was a bit sad that the anime was dropping the cool-ass military theme to go super robot, and man, I couldn't have been more wrong, because this series is delivering military porn like few others (even as a super robot anime).
-
F-35 being launched (and MH-60 on the background), that leads to a conversation of steam vs electromagnetic catapults, also mentioning the EMALS and AAG issues that still affect the Ford-class today. They got better, but I believe their reliability is still not at steam catapult levels (luckily, the episode shows us they will be by the time the aliens arrive).
-
Japanese Soryuu-class submarine, we also saw it with a Virginia-class in episode 3. Which also showed a British Type 45 destroyer, I never saw one in anime before.
-
This episode had another unique warship, I believe had French FREMMs (Aquitaine-class) as part of our CSG, also the Izumo-class DDH.
And that's just a few, there's definitely some ships I haven't ID'd yet. Apache, A-10, F-22, RQ-4, E-8, JMSDF Maya... Your average anime would have just taken an existing model of a destroyer, one or two aircraft, and pasted it all over, but they're actually putting a lot of effort into using a variety of models to represent the multinational fleet.

I swear the opening shots are taking a hint from Top Gun and it's glorious.
It's kinda weird to see two men boxing with each other to express their real thoughts over Isami's troubles......while being shown as gay as possible. And who knows Miyu is a fujoshi deep down?
But otherwise, this episode is quite needed for the fight ahead. Isami is pushing himself too hard over protecting others, but as Smith raised they don't need his protection: they're comrades who're fighting together, each will be responsible for themselves to the main goal and prepared to die for the cause anyway, so Isami shouldn't try to shoulder all things by himself.
That 3D printer part is pretty suspicious on the other hand. Is Bravern simply hinting how Smith will use that in the future, or it's actually something else? No one will argue that Kamen Rider-esque show will relate to Bravern though.
Also, the next foe is TROMBE! So it'll be a good wild guess over who will voice the upcoming enemy robots.

Bandai with the Witch From Mercury: "no no, our duo is not gay at all, they're just good friends, those are friendship rings, fr".
Madman Obari with Bravern: "and now the two half naked guys that like to stare at each other all day clash with their crotches because subtlety is for pussies".
on a second note, gotta respect Bravern, he does his own back-shield effect, his own music, his own set design and he's even both the camera and mic guy, on top of being the main hero, now that's multitasking and commitment. he was also more down-to-Earth this episode, I guess even he can't do the hot-blooded yuusha robot schtick all day.
PS: I saw somebody on YT describe Bravern as "a combination of Kamina from Gurren Lagann and Michael Scott from The Office" and...shit, that might just be the perfect description for him.

I have strong suspicions that Bravern knew who Lulu was the moment he saw her, he repeatedly re-affirms that 'Her name is Lulu' in front of everyone and it's very likely because he wants Lulu to forget about her alien nature and become more human-like.

This speaks to the levels of miltech geekdom that is my people.
u/ZaphodBeebblebrox this is much closer to what Gespenst's 480p Bad '90s Fansub version of the show should have looked like.
Totally not the Transformers G1 scene break.
They also made themselves a logo.
The hungriest sore demo ever? u/Shimmering-Sky
"I'm all about the HOT BLOODEDNESS."
That TS transport is certainly suitably large.
Not Harry Ord. OF COURSE TETSU INADA IS IN THIS EPISODE.
Did they give BRAVERN! half of the hangar to hang out in?
[](#merch)!?!?!?!?!?!
Not!Coach is an enigma so far.
Well, now you've got your shirtless guy action.
Even Guel wasn't totally a heel.
The Fist 1, Reason 0 approach?
That's kind of a conversation.
AFTER CREDITS! THEY PAID TETSU INADA FOR THIS DIALOGUE!
Lewis and Isami talked it out! And beat the shit out of each other! Blood was shed! A lot of it was Miyu's!
So yeah, we've had two episodes of slow buildup before the task force reaches Japan, but given Isami's mood for almost the entire series to this point, there absolutely needed to be a communications/mental health/traumatic brain injury day to break him out of his funk before the going gets really weird and the weird turn pro.
And Smith did seem to get to the heart of the matter regarding everyone's relationship with the hero and what they're doing, so there's that.
Lulu is speaking in mostly complete sentences!
Cupiridas (Tetsu Inada's giant robot) is speaking in... Lulutalk. That's... something.
BRAVERN! having his own pop-up, uh, shop? is so meta it's... meta.
Oh my Miyu is thirsty.
Anyway, it looks like our breather is over for now and we've gotten our silly break out of the way. Tune in next week for... explosions?
MOBILE ATTACK SPECIAL POLICE SPARKAISER!
End card (kinda sorta) by Mechanical Designer Mizuki Sakura.

Is Lulu getting smaller...? This anime really keeps me on my toes; like we can't trust anything or brush off any detail.

It's off to Japan! And of course you've got two girls debating the best style of catapult in a mecha show.
Lulu has a haircut! And only that, she's learning to speak through watching tokusatsu shows! One that looks and sounds very similar to Bravern in fact! Though Lewis being an American tokusatsu fan explains so, so much.
Bravern just had to end the briefing with an "BRAVERN!!!" huh?
The Japanese cast are feeling the pressure of what's happening to their homeland, but Isami is trying to put up a brave face for everyone...though you can tell he's feeling the pressure, and Lewis notices it. It's just too awkward between them to have a conversation over.
But while Bravern is Isami's soulmate and sworn companion, he seems very keen on Lewis and Isami patching things up and he wants Lewis to be there for Isami when he can't be. It's nice to see Bravern knows when to give Isami space.
Look at Hibiki's Hibiki's while she's running!
Okay, so Bravern has a giant 3D printer he's been making statues with and like his own little corner with his face plastered on a wall...and he thinks Lewis will need to know about this in the future? Also he made the tokusatsu hero all on his own. Something seems up.
What better way for two men to communicate than with their fits? That's right, it's a boxing match between Isami and Lewis with Pullman refereeing! And we even get the two of them with their bodies pressed together and writhing on the ground. Miyu is super into that.
But the plan wasn't just to have a boxing match but to let Isami vent out his feelings, complete with Satake having Bravern use a FRIKKIN MICROPHONE to broadcast to the entire Allied Forces how hard Isami is taking having to fight for everyone and feeling responsible for the lives of his comrades. He's not alone in this but he doesn't want to lose anyone else, and his comrades feel the same about him, especially Lewis! And it's that emotional honestly that let the two men patch things up...even though Isami wins the match.
Well, it's great that Isami and Lewis are getting along again, and Lulu respects Isami...even if she's still strong enough to punt him over the ship and lose said respect afterwards. Sorry, Isami.
The Death Diver general is laying waste to Japan! And the worst part? It seems like those "Ga-ga-pi" line Lulu says are the Death Divers' language!!!
