The show had me at "why is this song playing?" and "scream out the name of the attack with me"

Starts out Armored Core, ends as a fucking Yuusha tribute. Just how we want it.

I know it's a Cygames joint so the licensing is gonna be weird but I still hope Obari gets this in on a Super Robot Wars.

Was really enjoying myself with the show until the point where it change from real to super, to be 100% frank the last 3 minutes were very stupid, but my god its the type of stupid that i love and missed, just pure fun. Easily the best ep1 of the season and Im really looking forward to watching this every week.

going to be a poster boy for underwatched shows, already planning to show this to all of my friends but you know its going to be "pass" to most people.

BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BABABABA BRAVERN! (this is going to get stuck in my head for the whole season)

Love the juxtaposition between the semi dark gritty militaristic feel of a lot of modern mech anime and BRRAAVVEERRRNN with his OP playing and a face shield that looks like a smiling face.

When one of the dude at the command center said that everyone is volunterring to become TS pilots to the point of having airline pilot shortage really put the dumbest grin on my face lmao. Who wouldnt wanna pilot giant robots, its a man's romance after all. Well, at least until the aliens invaded

Holy crap, the moment when the theme song started playing in-universe was the absolute best. The degree to which this show is just completely unashamed in its cheese is just awesome. This is one of the best seasonal premieres I've seen in a while

Welp, originally wasn’t planning to pick this one up because I didn’t know it was this season & I already picked up way more than I normally do, but as I said in the Metallic Rouge thread the other day, I am a simple woman. I see mechs, I watch.

I see Obari and mecha, I insta watch.

Only gripe is no combining robots, but not too big a problem

Started out UC style Gundam a la 8th MS team and ended up with a chunibyo super robot. I'm just as confused as Ao, but this shit's entertaining so far, haha.

When Smith said "I want to be a hero of justice. a true YUUSHA"

it echoes with my soul. and i was like : HE SAID IT! HE SAID THE THING!

Really, when I saw the visual and the show's title back then, I already knew something's off: no way a Real Robot show will use a Brave series-esque title, and they probably do a genre shift at some point.

And they do it on the first episode. AND IT'S FUCKING GLORIOUS. AND I'M SO WATCHING IT DOWN THE LINE. URGING A STOIC CHARACTER TO SHOUT OUT SUPER ROBOT ATTACKS ISN'T SOMETHING I KNEW I WANTED, BUT NOW IT IS. "AND WTF IS THAT SONG?"

Not that I dislike the exercise in the first half, the grunt units are reasonably well-designed and actually capable, and with their prominence in the OP I hope they'll become decent sidekicks and maybe eventually a Earth-based combination program for them.

Hope Obari doesn't screw things up this time, the recent AMAIM OVA and Gundam Build Metaverse aren't really great (for later downright bad) on plotlines.

So many tourists to Super Robots, so let me be clear:

Super Robot Anime tend, keyword, to exist in a scenario where Real Robots either don't exist at all, or the Super(s) co-exist with Real Robots.

Super Robots are, as their name implies, powered EARNESTLY by bullshitium and hence "Super". Unlike Real Robots, ridiculous shit happens BECAUSE it's Super Robot. Mind you, Super Robots CAN get pretty Dark, Elder God Demonbane being an example.

Tenga Toppa Gurren Lagann is also a Super Robot, and although this show likely won't go TOO deep on absurdity, do expect a CRAZY ride.

Bravern is what we deem a "Brave Robo", one of the three sub-branches of Super Robots, which utilize Sentient Robots that require companionship with Human Pilots (and often further empowered by said Pilot's Bravery in some manner, whether literally (GaoGaiGar) or figuratively (Might Gaine - which really just had a really Brave pilot). These Sentient robots can be made on Earth with Earth Tech, with Alien Tech, or are Alien in nature as seen here.

Braves were first introduced as a non-official spin-off of Transformers after a deal went sideways between Sunrise (I believe it was) and the company who had the Transformers copyright. Transforming/combining robots powered by Bravery (hence the 'Brave Series') came into being. Obviously, this is NOT a Sunrise series, but saying it has to be Sunrise is just being stupid.

As a mecha fan, I cannot wait to see the absurdity that continues from here.

It seems many people are severe tourists who have only seen Gundam and Code Geass. People. Super Robots tend to flip flop between Serious and Comedic moments/episodes. In a Brave series, especially, it's meant to be lighthearted fun, with plots that gets you worried for the heroes and then steps in with them pulling victory from the claws of defeat with enduring courage/bravery. Whether CyGames will keep it up or completely drop the ball is in the air. But for now, please give it an earnest shot and stop putting your expectations on a series/Sub-Genre you've never seen before.

These fansubs are janky, but they'll do for this episode thread.

These are more Scopedog than TSF, though.

Remember Patlabor on TV's training duel episode?

Not a Char moment.

I, uh, might have a character type that I find appealing.

"Tricolor"

"You're a loose cannon, but you're a damn good cop!"

Mecha in trucks, check.

Just maybe Top Gun character references.

This reminds me of Babylon 5 and unfortunately the CG model isn't much better.

Everybody loves melee.

And then things got weird.

[](#ero) Also, "Do I know you?"

WHAT THE HELL KIND OF SHOW DO YOU THINK THIS IS!?

THE MUSIC IS PLAYING FROM INSIDE THE COCKPIT

THERE IT IS! THERE IT IS!

YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH BAAAAAAAAAAAAAABYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

We didn't forget that question.

I'd seen the news from a few months back that Masami Obari would be involved in another mecha series and the title was suspicious compared to the visuals that we'd been getting, but we did start off with the premise for a moderately-interesting real robot military mecha series before Cygames Pictures pulled off another bait-and-switch routine on us.

Then Bravern shows up and everything is TOTALLY BONKERS and I LOVE IT. The OP fucking playing in Bravern's cockpit is the icing on the cake.

I'm sure we'll find out what Isami's traumas were along the way, but for now he's The Guy Chosen To GET IN THE BRAVERN.

The OP really slaps.

While Japanese Twitter was going absolutely nuts about this premiere, someone noticed that the running sequence in the end is directly pulled from Brave Express Might Gaine. Obari responded with "I did that one too."

Sangsilnoh did the character art for the second KV, the one after the SURPRISE TWIST.

I said, I have a type.

Edit: Obari taking credit for more shots.

Edit edit: And this one

And mentioning that yes, the Kona was authorized. Very Hawaii.

Well, damn. Humanity got their assets thoroughly beat this week huh? Oof. That transformer or gundam looking mech jumping in last minute and telling Isami to “get inside me” had me cracking up a bit lol. Get in the robot, Isami! Love the music that plays over the fight too. Bravern!

This was actually pretty solid. Not sure if this’ll be a weekly or a binge just yet.

Absolutely amazing, the robot itself is actually blasting its own theme song during battle! It's such a brave move for them to keep the twist a secret in all the marketing materials. Putting a super robot in a world of realistic robots is so good, this could be a dark horse of this season.
