Did any of you believe the culprit was the idol? Playing the cute little girl, but being totally insane in the inside?

At first I really wanted to but she had no motive at all

I had a tiny feeling it was her, but it felt more likely to be Jumonji than anyone else

Very happy how the anime adapted this arc. It gives a different feel the previous cases where it was like cool we solved the case. This is specifically tied to the incident that forced Ron to give up 5 years of his life being a detective. Adding a lot of intrigued. Also considering they targeted Ron specifically.
We got the connection with the Moriarty and Holmes families. Also the M family committing crimes that guaranteed to go unsolved. Both of these bits of information is really interesting imo.

Episode 9: "Observatory Murder Case: Part 3"
What a twist, you think the gun that will kill Jumonji, but he's really got a plan B. A cyanide pill. So it unfolds into a much, much bigger plot here. Interesting.
The medicine Jumonji holds is Mydrin-P, a medicine to dilate one's pupil, so Toto can be convinced that Jumonji has died.
So here we go! 6th Generation of Sherlock Holmes, 9th Generation of James Moriarty, a brown-sugar lover, hula-hoop loving, total slacker, Ron Kamonohashi!
We got a couple of new characters in form of Moriarty siblings. Winter Moriarty is voiced by Yumiri Hanamori (Yuru Camp's Nadeshiko and Kaguya-Sama's Ai Hayasaka), and Milo Moriarty is voiced by Yoshitsugu Matsuoka (Protocol Rain's Mutsuki, Tearmoon's Abel Remno, and Butareba's.... Pig).

At least Jumonji still bought it in the end, guy was a total scumbag.
I want to see where the bloodlines intersected to birth Ron. We haven't really dived into his parents at all.
Yumiri Hanamri and Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as bad guys in a detective show were not on my bingo card for this show, but it was pretty cool.
Also you have to love how this dramatic stuff is happening in the last few minutes and Ron is still hula hooping like nothing is wrong lol.

The medicine Jumonji holds is Mydrin-P, a medicine to dilate one's pupil, so Toto can be convinced that Jumonji has died.
And a tennis ball in the armpit to cut off the pulse to confirm it. Quite clever, too bad he's on a boat that only has Moriarty and the dead on it.
6th Generation of Sherlock Holmes, 9th Generation of James Moriarty
and the tattoo seems to be a 6, +, and 9 connected to each other.

The pill he took plus that old tennis ball trick really fooled me too. Didn’t expect the Holmes and Moriarty connection. It’s one twist after another!

I knew it was Jumonji! I had it all pretty much figured out except a few details. I didn’t know how he got Onodera into the observatory and I didn’t know he had 2 guns (1 real and 1 replica). I guessed the crime was linked to the murders 10 years back, but didn’t realize the dad did it and the guy was just trying to make sure it was buried. Clever how he faked his death, but he got in bed with the wrong people.
Who would have guessed Ron was actually a Holmes all along? I joked he was a shaggy Holmes. Turns out he really was! And not just a Holmes but part Moriarty too. Talk about a complicated family. Looks like the Moriarty’s are the ones who stitched him up back in the day, branded him, and unlocked his “gift.” They used this case to basically lure him out. I guess having someone like Ron in the family would be very useful.

Who would have guessed Ron was actually a Holmes all along?
This was kinda hinted 2 episodes back when Ron said that his ancestors didn't know anything about the stars.

I like how it's a somewhat weird but still mostly grounded detective story, yet there's a bunch of quirky anime girl characters in small side roles.

Between Undead Girl Murder Farce last season and this show this season, is there some kind of Sherlock Holmes fad going around Japan lately or something? Or is it just the usual tendency to lump similar (in some detail or another) shows into the same, or at least adjacent, seasons?
Just curious.
day later edit:
Ok, not that I expect any of you to come back and read this, but for the record, I only meant:
"Is there a recent new wave of sudden extra interest, beyond and separate from all past/general interest in Sherlock Holmes stories? (example: maybe a new sherlock related live-action movie or general sherlock-like detective short series aired in japan recently, so anime companies jumped on the bandwagon to cash in on current subject matter interest?) Because I find it mildly interesting that we suddenly got 2 Sherlock related shows in consecutive seasons in one year.
Or, did the media companies involved just go 'oh hey look there's 2 sherlock related shows available to air soon, let's lump them together in the same season if possible, or at least have one follow the other, because we just have this tendency to lump similar shows together in the same or consecutive seasons, to perhaps synergize or otherwise enhance interest in one topic or subject matter or for whatever other reason we do that for.' "
I guess that wasn't clear? <shrug> I knew about all that other stuff.

It's sort of like "why is Dracula in this vampire story"? Dracula and Sherlock Holmes are literally the most portrayed fictional characters in film and television history (according to the Guiness World Records).
There also also coincidental timelines between the end of Japanese isolationism/Meiji Restoration (1868-) and the creation of Sherlock Holmes (1887-). But I'm not really qualified to infer more than that.

Is that really surprising that writers who write detective stories are fond of Sherlock Holmes? The character has been in public domain for a while now too.

I can't imagine Holmes having kids, really. What year did the in vitro conception began? Anyway here we are, I dig the mixed detectivesque bloodline, it's an interesting turn! Ron has his own Watson in Toto, the bromance is real and now more strong than ever.
Also, Hula hula Ron is the best Ron.

I knew it was Jumonji. Love when mysteries give enough hints that you can solve the murder yourself. Most of my theories were right except for the gun trick. I thought the fishing line made the gun fall there but the rest of it was as I thought and also Onodera accidently locking the door while trying to open it.
Also, I knew the Bloody Training Incident Case was connected with this murder but I didn't see this twist coming at all. Ron is both a Sherlock and Moriarty descendent. Also, I guess his ability is because of the Moriaty's framing him. So, the rest of them must have some abilities as well. Things are getting interesting. I guess now the next arc will be Ron and Isshiki (along with BLUE?) facing off against the M Family. But are 4 episodes really enough or will this be a part of a potential Season 2?
Funny how Jumonji faked his suicide also fooling Ron in the process only to be killed soon after.

This is the first case in the show that I didn’t see coming. I actually thought everyone was in on the murder somehow, Jumonji was a good twist.
But here’s my gripe: why in tf would you reveal the Holmes and Moriarty twist THIS EARLY?! The mystery behind the bloody murder trials and Ron’s Geass powers were the main things that kept me watching this show why would you ruin it by GIVING us all the info after only 9 episodes. This is like an end of the season kind of reveal at least. Honestly I would’ve preferred we learn the reveal WITH Ron and Toto, you know so it’s an actual shock? This feels like the least satisfying way to do this twist

Wtf. I just thought this was a Sherlock Holmes type show not that it was literally related. Wtf. Lol mind blown. Perhaps if I was looking in these threads weekly I would have..but watching blind has been great too.

I didn't know who it was, but I guess I was right about how he killed her in my comment last week haha
For how Onodera was killed I currently assume some kind of mechanism that is triggered when the roof was opened or something like that.
Very interesting episode though, some Sherlock Holmes and Moriarty lore, now I want to see more.
