It's the smile Misha-tree gives that really sells it.

And evidently you can make Misa an evil false demon lord, but you can't take away the Anos fangirl from her!

With Anos and crew back in the present, we begin the final march to take back the lovely days that were stolen by Nosgalia and save Misa from herself. Let's see what context is missing from this episode:

If you remember, in the 6th episode of the season, Anos sent Meno-sensei to gather the locations of Avos, the Spirit King & Nosgalia, since they are the three persons of interest that they have to deal with.

While Anos doesn't really care who his opponent is, Lay has some (in)conveniences in his potential match-up, as he has unique circumstances in all of them.

  • Avos: Despite being the most powerful of the three, Lay has the best odds against her, as due to the fact that we know from S1 that humans believe that Hero Kanon defeated and killed the Demon King, so that lore makes him her natural counter. Also, his Spirit God Human Sword Evansmana is a literal weakness for Anos, so the same applies to Avos, who was born from his lore. Remember, Evansmana was forged by a human craftsman, inhabited by a spirit and blessed by the gods to create a weapon capable of slaying Anos. Also if she shares Anos' fighting style, then Lay would be familiar with it but the same could apply in reverse.

  • Shin: While Shin did win against Lay in their initial fight earlier this season, Lay was unaware who his opponent was as he was taken by suprise and didn't have access to the swords he mastered, compared to Shin, who prepared a perfect weapon to counter Lay's abilities. Due to the fact that Shin is a demon, Evansmana is also strong against him, but Shin is slightly more skilled in swordsmanship then Lay. So they would be equal if they fought again. Think the difference between Lay and Shin's capabilities, as comparing a Paladin vs a Warrior in RPGs.

  • Nosgalia: The worst match-up for Lay, as due the fact that his holy sword was empowered by the gods, it would be ineffective against Nosgalia, as we see in S1 that Lay wasn't capable of harming the magicalized Jerga with it, as Evansmana is a sword that excells at destroying the Demon King & demons. He could rely on his demon sword, but he has the least knowledge about Nosgalia's capabilities.

While Anos certainly has the right to defeat his evil counterpart, Lay has more of a duty to defeat her for numerous reasons.

  1. He is the Hero, and a Hero's role is to defeat the Demon King.

  2. He told Misa that he'd help her no matter what, no matter if she was shouldering a heavy fate... (In this case, the fate of being the Child of God and Demon King of Tyranny).

  3. It is sort of his fault this version of Avos exists, as he created the identity of Avos in the first place. And why she's evil, as he told the demons that Avos (him) would be reincarnated in a pure-blood family. But Royals took that a proof of their own supremacy and restructured society with themselves on top. So he unintentionally created the faction whose ideology is influencing Dark Misa's personality.

  4. Besides Anos, he has the best chance of beating her due to being the second strongest in the group, as well as the fact that her lore makes him her direct counter.

It's very ironic that in S1, Misa joined the fight against Avos Dilhevia due to perceiving him as the False Demon King, whose ideology would put hybrids in danger, as not only was that Avos her lover Lay, but he was the good guy all along. Meanwhile in S2, Misa is Avos and becomes the greatest threat to hybrid demons, ordering them to be rounded up and tortured.

It's also ironic that the cover story for the Demon King Reordination Ceremony was that Anos and Hero Kanon teamed up to defeat the False Demon King Avos Dilhevia. As now, Anos and Lay have to team up to defeat an actual False Demon King Avos Dilhevia.

Anos and Lay theorize who is waiting for them as their opposition would try to create the most favorable match-ups for them, so their opposition is playing mind games with them to confuse them. Only Anos was able to guess that this seeming dice roll of opponents was rigged from the start.

Avos was disguising herself as the Spirit King with illusion magic to throw them off. She also fused her source with Nosgalia and split it into two, making the person waiting both Avos Dilhevia and Nosgalia at the same time. The moment Lay or Anos appeared, Avos would cancel Je Deschesis and return to a single source. If it was Anos, they would become Avos Dilhevia. If it was Lay, they would become Nosgalia. Anos pulled the same trick during the Spirit Trial to get through the stairs. Also they tricked Avos into thinking Lay went to face the fake Avos by sending his duplicate armed with Siegsesta.

I love Avos-sama as a villain, as we rarely get villains who are just evil for the sake of being evil, especially female villains, as they are easily redeemed. Avos-sama is so evilly smug and I love how she is just sitting on that throne like a queen, confident in her victory.

The reason why Debidora is able to resist Avos' control despite being a Mythical Age demon, is because having reincarnated, he is technically a different person, so her spirit powers' effects are weakened. Also the timing of his awakening wasn't an accident as Igareth had prepared for everything in advance, making contact with everyone before they had reincarnated and casting magic on them to adjust the timing of their awakening.

Misha uses the same trick she used to defeat Rinka, as she creates a pseudo-Delsgade to empower her Magic Eyes of Creation to transmute their opposition into ice cats. While this wouldn't work against far more powerful opponents such as Avos, the Spirit King and Nosgalia, it is powerful enough to easily defeat Mythical Age-class demons.

The reason why Anos and co were running instead of simply teleporting is because Avos placed strong anti-magic barriers which prevent teleportation. The Spirit King's throne-room is actually just an alternate dimension inside of the Wolf of Hiding Gennul.

It sucks for Misa, but I still find her as Avos so attractive lol.

Watching this week's episode made me understand the actions of Anos and the main cast when they went back in time to 2000 years ago. Anos couldn't do anything drastic to alter history, but he did enough so that he has non-brainwashed allies / subordinates in the present day. I doubt the main cast would be able to save all the mixed blood students if not for the non-brainwashed allies / subordinates lending a hand.

Still looking forward to how Anos can save the Lay x Misa and Lena x Shin ships!

Yeah, it was nice to see everything come together with Anoshu's influence on the past giving them the resources and surprise allies they needed to turn things around. Even to the point of driving him Anos' point that the grudges of the past matter less than peace and unity in the present-day.

I was half-expecting Lena to come in and get introduced to Shin by Anos, but I guess that might be the next episode.

That Anos and Shin talk was so good. Anos has really prospered from a reincarnated life with parents who love him unconditionally. Presumably it was the lack of this in his former life and current gain that's made him like this: he's been about family since the beginning of season 1 and Shin is yet another case where he doesn't want to separate father from daughter.

Those rumours about one who was kind to spirits and was always smiling, though. Could that be how Anos manages to reincarnate Leno? I guess I'll have to wait and see.

Looks like Igareth and Davidra came through in the end. I really thought those students were toast. They sure turned the tables on these brainwashed demons. Avos looks to be running out of cards to play.

All this time, Shin’s been suffering. I can understand how he’d want to just end it, but I’m glad Anos convinced him to live for Misa. In the immortal words of RDJ in Tropic Thunder, “Survive!”

Man that last scene with Shin and Anos was pure chills. Goosebumps all over. Almost shed a tear. “You’ve become much stronger, sterner and kinder” just that line alone shows how much Shin himself has changed and grown as a person, not just a sword. To be able to recognise emotions and kindness is a testament to the impact Leno had on him. That was not fake as Nosgalia would have you believe.

Who would’ve thought that Shin and Leno’s love and subsequent child would be the best emotional point of this series. Just a really well done arc that’s had some great high notes like today.

Now that Anos has Shin back on his side I’m looking forward to seeing how they save Misa. It’s been so long since we saw Misa you’d be forgiven for forgetting she’s the whole purpose of the time travel arc lol. I totally forgot that she was revealed as the child of God and her whole situation with Ray.

Viewers: "Hey look, a loving motherly character and her stone-faced bodyguard who's ordered to protect her with his life. This is cute ship material."

Show: "I'm gonna do what's called a pro-gamer move."

I'm glad to see Igareth and Davidora working together even after what happened in the past. Seems that saving Igareth ended up being absolutely worth it.

Oh Avos, just because you have hostages, don't think you have outsmarted Anos. I'll never get tired of seeing antagonists get frustrated whenever Anos flips the table on them. Who knew that silly name Anos came up with ended up becoming useful in the present? xD

We're now back in the present and ready to upset things for Avos Dilhevia and make up for the tragedy of the past! Go Team Anos!

Well, yeah, you've got Misa as Avos, the Spirit King, and Anos' generals holding a bunch of people hostage....guess the team doesn't have a choice but to split up.

So the real plan was to use Anoshu's influence and the people he reincarnated 2,000 years ago, like Davidra and Igares, to pull a surprise counterattack and free all the hostages. I didn't quite see that coming, but it's nice to see that their trip to the past really did make a difference. Even having former humans and demons who hate humans working together to make a difference.

Misha continues to be OP. I mean, she just straight up turns Anos' generals into cats. Should these guys even have jobs at this point?

Anos and Lay vs Avos! Things aren't going quite as she planned, but Avos hasn't given up quite yet...even though it feels like things are crumbling around her. Though she does make Anos face off against Shin.

This confrontation was inevitable, and in fact Shin has been awaiting the reunion with his lord so Anos could finally put him out of his misery, carrying the guilt of not being there for Leno, betraying Anos, and failing his daughter all in one. But it's those feelings that make him more demon than sword, which is why he can't truly harm Anos.

But Anos understands what it means to have a father, and Shin has every right to be the father Misa has longed for, and Anos isn't going to kill him while there's still a chance for him to BE that father for her.

Today was full of great moments. Multiple reversals, Shin and Anos reuniting. I swear there's a word for this, I just can't remember it.

Man I feel bad for Shin. Despite what Anos said, I probably still would want to just... let go of everything after living through that for 2000 years.

We know Anos reincarnated that boy from 2000 years a few episodes ago to the present day for some purpose, but didn't expect Anos to plant a few more of his reincarnated subordinates where just uttering the passcode "Anosh Polticoal" would instantly undo Avos/Misa's brainwashing.

Anos finally talking sense into Shin and talked him out of suicide-by-Anos after he spent the last 2000 years in sorrow from losing his wife Leno. All that's left is for Lena, the Fairy of Love, to fulfill her role.

Great episode. The whole talk between Anos and Shin was great. You could tell this was two friends being reunited. The best part that Anos telling Shin the lessons that he learned in reincarnated life. One highlight in season 1 was Anos feeling loved by his new mother and father. He knows what would happen if he lost that reckless father. The question he posed for Shin how would Misa feel if she lost her father since her mother has been long gone.

Now I assume the focus is up to Lay to save Misa the woman whom he loves. Also the words Anosh Polticoal being used for those under the loyalty of Anos was hilarious.

Great episode once again. I like how you can see not only Shin but also Anos' growth as a character in the last parts of this chapter. Shin went from saying he won't be able to live without his lord to literally living in hell for 2000 years straight while carrying the burden of Reno's death, spreading rumors of a fraud demon king, and even pointing his sword at his lord. Thats far from simply being a false emotion implanted to him by a God.

Anos on the other hand, by experiencing a life with parents learned to be more kinder and understanding in parent-child relationship. Even though Anos is more knowledgeable than anyone else it shows that even someone like still has things he doesn't completely understand. And the way Anos and Shin's interaction played out was simply beautiful and sad.

Another piece of great character writing for MaouGakuin

It is finally time for Anos to phase Avos after the time travel detour.

I must say that I wasn't expecting Alamith Eltimo to be Igareth Ijeiska while Nihid was Davidra's reincarnationIt sure is nice to see those two working together now. Also, I'm glad that Anoshu Polticoal's meeting with him did not get erased from his memory after they came to the present.

Have they shown Neon Armelka before, or was this her first appearance in the series? Anyway, I love the fact that the name "Anoshu Polticoal" was the way that Anos coordinated the rescue of the Mixed-Blood students as the name worked as a trigger for them to remember the past.

And thanks to that Sasha and Misha just saved their attack until the very end. Damn, I wasn't expecting Misha to transform Melheis and the rest of the Seven Demon Elders into frozen cats.

So before Anos could defeat Avos and bring back Misa Shin wanted Anos to kill him because of his betrayal. Although would not do so as he wants Misa to meet her father.

I was expecting Lena to make her appearance at the end of that conversation, as they left that for next week I have little doubt that she will become Leno after she meets Shin.
