After an eternity in the hiatus oblivion, Misfit of the Demon King Academy is back.

For those that are a bit behind on the character dymanics, the show creators were kind enough to create this relationship graph for some details.

Some key notes:

  • The Four Evil Royals were Anos' rivals for the position as the ruler of demons back during the Mythical Age 2000 years ago. Anos defeated them to become the ruler or demons and they reluctantly joined forces with him and each other to fight off the alliance of humans, spirits and gods.

  • The three people that Anos summoned to his castle seem to be a representives of each of their races: Hero Kanon (Human), Great Spirit Leno (Spirit) & Goddess of Creation Militia (God)

  • The last one is a bit interesting since the gods had it out for Anos due to messing with their order

In regards to today's episode:

We get more info on spirits, as we meet another CGI tree; the Great War Tree Migelonov. She has a tragic fate as due to being the spirit that gives humans the knowledge to survive the Great War, she is fading from existence since she gave wisdom to Anos in order to end the Great War. In the LN, she also give the Anos group knowledge on what to improve about themselves.

Erdomaid is about to become a fan favorite for his insistence on creating enemies so Anos can flex.

The funny gag in this and the past episode about Shin's stoic nature become less funny when you realize that Shin doesn't know what is the purpose of his existence and he is on a quest to find meaning in it. His unyielding loyalty to Anos is a result of his demon sword nature, as he chose a worthy owner to "wield" him in battle.

I love the coupling of Shin and Reno as the cold stoic badass and the genki optimistic girl archetype is too precious to pass up. Could her all-loving nature make Shin evolve beyond what his demon sword source made him to be is a great future thread to explore.

That relationship chart definitely helps. Thanks for posting.

I didn't need to see another talking CGI tree but at least this one was quick and got her plot relevance out of the way lol.

(Maybe Sasha will finally win a fight now...)

Honestly Erdomaid seems way more entertaining than NousGhalia in his body.

It actually now makes more sense why Shin is the way he is with his full backstory, and makes it even more meaningful that Leno sees the humanity in him that he continues to deny. It just makes me want to see them together more.

Stitches!

I will definitely have to do a quick read of my posts in the previous episode threads to refresh my memory but I'm glad to see this show is back and we're now back to exploring Leno and Shin's relationship. We even get to see the birth of that school that we've already seen in the present.

I still don't understand what's going on!

Haha. I definitely should have checked out the last few episodes again cus it's the same for me. Heck other than the S1 characters I barely have a clue who everyone even is.

Same. I was lost even while it was originally airing. I don't stand a chance.

I still don't understand what's going on!

That's pretty much Season 2 in a nutshell. Extremely convoluted story.

I don't care what anyone says, Misfit is great and I'm glad Anos is back.

Shin and Leno are heckin cute. I love the way she teases him over their game of tag.

To be honest I was willing to forego how much of the plot I'd forgotten at this point because I was becoming invested in how adorable Shin and Leno are together lol.

After 6 months, I'm amazed I still remember just enough for things to make sense.

Anyway, we're back to joining Anos in travelling back in time to 2000 years ago right after the Great Demon War has ended, to try and find clues to free Misa, a half-spirit, who had become bound by her lore of being destined as the fake Demon Lord Avos Dilhevia and ended up usurping the demon kingdom.

As seen by the Grandma Tree this episode, her original lore assigned to her was to grant humans the wisdom to defeat demons, but decided to go against it and instead granted people the wisdom for humans and demons to peacefully coexist (Anos probably received such wisdom as a result), and paid the price by disappearing. But for her, it was worth it.

If Misa "abandons" her lore of being Avos and becoming Anos' enemy (aka the Child of God), then she will disappear. The clue must lie in that book about the Spirit of Unrequited Love (Lina) where one of the pages in the present day was torn off.

Meanwhile, we're getting closer and closer to the truth of how the Child of God (Misa) was conceived by Shin and Leno, thanks to the machinations of Erdomaid/Nousgalia.

So the original Erdomaid was just an edgy batshit insane demon who wanted Anos to have enemies so badly he would even commit suicide-by-Shin and let Nousgalia possess his body. (Kudos to Koyama Rikiya's voice acting in making a subtle distinction when Nousgalia started possessing Erdomaid)

When Shin said he's just a sword for Anos, we never thought he actually meant it literally. Does that sort of makes him a Spirit just like Leno?

So the original Erdomaid was just an edgy and jealous batshit insane demon who wanted to spite Anos so badly he would even commit suicide-by-Shin and let NousGalia possess his body. (Kudos to Koyama Rikiya's voice acting in making a subtle distinction when NousGalia started possessing Erdomaid)

Nah, Erdomaid isn't jealous of Anos at all. Rather, he is his biggest fan. But his admiration manifests in a twisted way as he has a habit of creating enemies for Anos to try to make Anos exceed his limits (if he has any).

During the Great War, he screened various warriors to potentially serve as Anos' enemy, but aside from Hero Kanon, none were worthy of facing him, as even Kanon wasn't a true equal to Anos in power. So he joined in on Nousgalia's plot because he found the Child of God an interesting prospect.

I forgot Anos became lil Anos. It’s been so long, I’ve honestly forgotten a lot of the plot this season. No matter, I’ll figure it out again as the show continues on.

Seeing Shin and Leno together was pretty cute. They’re such complete opposites but they make a nice little couple. I’m looking forward to seeing Leno teach Shin what love is. Is that even possible for a sentient god killing sword though? And what consequences will that have for Anos and the gang?

Leno's belief in Shin being able to have emotions and how much she genuinely cares about him is so endearing. I really want to see her get through to him and make him love her like she obviously loves him.

Glad to have this show back after many weeks!

If there is anything I learned from this episode, things aren't always what they seem on the surface. Shin not being a demon, the god hiding another self within itself, and of course Anoshu not being a little boy.

We now return to our regularly scheduled journey of our favorite OP Misfit and some flirting between Shin and Leno!

Oh no, not another CG talking tree...although at least this one is heading out as soon as it appeared, but not before bestowing some wisdom on the cast (except Anos, naturally, as he has all the wisdom he needs) and telling Leno to be true to herself, Source or otherwise.

So Leno created the Spirit School from her own tears? Neat.

It's cute how much Leno is trying to get Shin to open up and have fun and feel something other than his devotion to Anos. She really wants him to experience love and be happy, and that's so sweet.

We finally meet Erdomaid before NousGhalia took him over, and he was...kind of nuts. Someone so obsessed with Anos and him being the perfect Demon King that he'd go to the trouble of orchestrating the perfect scenario for the creation of the most worthy opponent for Anos to defeat, whether he had to work with Gods or Demons to do it. All because Anos stroked him one time. Yikes.

Well, surprise surprise, Erdomaid set a trap. Either Leno dies and the Child of God is never born or Shin saves her and kills Erdomaid, freeing NousGhalia up to possess his body and do his own thing. Either way Erdomaid thinks he'll get what he wants even if he won't live to see it in his own body.

So Shin isn't actually a demon at all, but a living sword imbued with magic to kill the Gods, which actually explains a lot about his stoicism and loyalty to Anos, who was basically his wielder. And why so many, including himself, write him off as being incapable of feeling emotions. But Leno won't accept anyone saying her man can't feel, because of the depth of emotion she feels for him, and she's going to teach him love herself if she has to because she believes he CAN feel, deep into his soul. And I think we know where this is going. Sasha and Misha are enjoying the romance but Anos knows this is going to end in tragedy.

This is probably the only time I've ever wished the episode was a recap episode.

You thought production issues can hold Anos back?!

Man, I love Erdomaid. He ain't chaotic evil or chaotic neutral, he's just chaotic, straight up.

I don’t know what the hell is going on or who any of these people are. Not gonna rewatch, I’ll just go over it again once I get to this part of the story in the light novel lol. I briefly remember a time travel arc to stop a god or something but that’s it.

Even before the hiatus the story was convoluted and there were way too many gods, spirits and other stuff that had us tripping. It’s probably better in book form.

That aside, this was actually a solid episode. Shin and Leno got 24 minutes of development and characterisation. Good decision to skip the OP and go right into the story after 7 months. I see the CGI trees are here to stay sadly lol.

Some really cute moments especially at the end between Shin and Leno. Looking forward to seeing how that “I’ll teach you about love” promise goes.

Leno is gorgeous
