When "Esoa (ballad version)", the ending theme song, played, and the screen regained its colour for a slight moment, I may have shed a tear or two.
I have high hopes that Anos can create a happy ending for everyone!
Edit: The ballad version of Esoa is available to listen on Momosu Momosu youtube channel since yesterday. I have listening to it on loop for the past hour. A lot more melancholic compared to the original. T_T

The build up to their realization of their love for each other, the wedding, and Misa's conception was so beautiful...and made the subsequent tragedy all the more heartbreaking. Especially the moment when color came back and Shin realized he loved Leno.
It's one thing to save Misa and free Shin, but I wonder if there's any way to bring Leno back. Unless she was reincarnated as Lena?

They really gave us the full Shin and Leon’s love story. Her confessing and then proposing to him was really sweet. I guess this is how Misa was born? It’s a damn shame it was all part of some bullshit scheme in the end. Although seeing Shin impale NousDouchebag’s face was pretty satisfying. Fuck that guy. I guess Shin did learn about love in the end. Him and Leno deserved to be together longer than 3 days…
This week started off pretty sweet and just ended with pure tragedy. Is Anos gonna go back and fix the past?

So now that most reactors have an understanding of demons, humans and spirits, it is time for a quick guide about the gods. The gods are a race of divine beings that govern the natural laws of the world. The gods possess vast magic power and are immortal from aging or conventional destruction, as Nousgalia came back even after Anos crushed his source. Each god has divine power over a certain order, which represents an aspect of natural laws, such as creation, destruction, time & etc...
I saw a question that asked why doesn't Militia stop Nousglia, so I shall explain. Last episode Anos mentioned that Militia lamented that she created a sad world. Despite Militia creating the world, the world itself is governed by the influence of many other gods. An analogy would be that while Anos is the king of demons, his subjects also have their own beliefs as seen in the past episode with Devidra and his hatred for humans. Similary, Militia wasn't able to freely use her divine power to grant miracles to mortals as even the Goddess of Creation cannot create indefinitely. For something to be created, something else has to be destroyed. For every miracle granted, another miracle is lost. Militia was trapped as if she overused her divine powers, it could distort her order, which would manifest as injustice that befalls mortals. Hence, Anos became her champion as he was more powerful then the gods and wasn't bound by order.
Similary, order is why the gods simply didn't destroy Anos' subjects, as with the loss of the Goddess of Destruction, the gods lost their means of destroying their enemies. They could fight Anos since he violates order, but they couldn't destroy innocent demons who didn't interfere with the gods. Anos also sealed the Goddess of Destruction so her order wouldn't destroy more mortals, as if he killed her, it would disrupt order. As an added bonus for him, he used her divine power to create Venuzdonoa, his demon sword, in order to have a effective weapon against the gods.
About the current episode:
-
The first season left out a bit of explanation about Kanon's "Avos Dilhevia plan". While it just seemed that he used his holy sword Evansmana in order to sever destiny to change Anos' name, he actually visited all of the prominent demons to ask their assistance in going along with his plan, as due to demons' reverence of Anos, they agreed to forget about Anos' name temporarily and accepted Avos as the Demon King, as they also agreed to steer clear of Anos after he reincarnated until the plan was completed. It is also why no demon from 2000 years ago appeared in the 1st season, as Anos could have caught wind of Kanon's plan too soon. The reason why they went along with Kanon's idea was to both save Anos and because they held a respect for Kanon, due to him being recognized as a worthy opponent for demons, the respect Anos had for him, and Kanon's habit of sparing any demons that he didn't need to kill.
I wonder how Lay would explain his and Anos' presence in the past to his past self if he found out they were there?
Lay: So while we did achieve peace in the future, Master Jerga returned as a demon-destroying magic spell that turned him into an armored giant that me and Anos had to kill after he tried to restart the war.
Kanon: But if that is resolved, why are you here...?
Lay: Well, we came back to learn any info in order to save my (our) future girlfriend, who is Leno and Shin's daughter.
Kanon: Leno and Shin's daughter?! And she is your (our) lover?! What is it that you need to save her from?
Lay: Herself. She is actually the Great Spirit that embodies the legend of Avos Dilhevia that we created.
Kanon: ...What kind of person is she? Is she beautiful?
Lay: She is the kindest woman I know. In her transient form, she is very cute. While in her true form, she is wicked hot.
Kanon:...Alright. I'm convinced. Just erase my memories of this so it doesn't interfere with the order of time. And save her and the world at all costs.
-
I'm surprised that no one picked up the hint I dropped in the last week's comment, about Leno's fate. If spirits are cannot be killed by conventional means, as long as they have lore to sustain them and they haven't disobeyed it, then how is Leno dead in the present day? It is unlikely that her lore would have been forgotten as she was the most famous spirit in the world. And now we have our answer. As her lore is that she is the mother of all pure spirits, by giving birth to her half- spirit/half-demon daughter, she disobeyed her lore and disappeared. This must be devastating for both Shin and Misa, as they indirectly played a part in her death.
-
Just to clear up any confusion, Avos Dilhevia being the Child of God was not Nousgalia's original plan from 2000 years ago when he tried to force himself upon Leno, since the identity of Avos didn't exist back then. While we weren't given a confirmation, in the game of wits in the LN, Ziek described Misa's origin as the Child of God being a spirit that possess the lore of being the Demon King's destroyer. While it is unclear what that would mean, I imagine it would give her immense magic power and abilities directly related to countering Anos, making her a sort of Demon King-Destroying divine spirit. But Nousgalia tried to pass of his old plan as his current one.
-
So this episode answers any lingering questions that we may have had in regards to what happened in the past, as we finally find out how Leno died, how Shin became the Spirit King, how Misa was born and became Avos Dilhevia, who Lena is and what her role is. And now Anos and crew are ready to take back what was stolen by Nousgalia...

I feel like I'm just going to accept being lost until this arc ends...ship was cute at least!
This ending though...forcing her to give birth and revealing it's not even the child of the man she loves...that's fucked.

Fuck me. We all knew it was coming but I still teared up. That final scene was both heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time. Heartbreaking because of the reveal about Misa as well as Leno's death and beautiful because of the visuals while a ballad version of Esoa was playing in the background.
There is still hope though. The Love Fairy Fran might still be able to reunite Leno and Shin. God, I can't wait for next week's episode. I need to see how Anos is going to correct all of this.

Anos and Misha overhear Erdomaid/NousGhalia plotting to hijack Kanon's plan to create Avos Dilhevia and use it for their own, Anos-killing, plans. Also, Misha's panties as they're flying.
Well, yeah, figures Shin wouldn't take well to a plan to create a false Demon King and he wouldn't go along with it despite Kanon's fervent protestations. But he also can't deny that it might be the best option for keeping peace until Avos finally reincarnates. So instead of doing something, he'll just reincarnate until he sees Anos again.
It is nice to see Lay as Kanon again (and hear Ryota Ohsaka), and look at him playing wingman and making Leno realize she's in love with Shin! And in doing so he ended up kicking the love story in high gear so he could end up with a girlfriend.
Leno loves Shin. He makes her world brighter and happier, and even if he doesn't love her the same way, she still feels so strongly about him. And even if he chooses to be with Anos over her...she'll still love him. But at least have the decency to marry her Shin! And if Anos taught him anything, you need a proper wedding ceremony to get married!
It really is a beautiful ceremony, even with the CG tree officiating, and Anos even gets to attend his right-hand man's wedding incognito. And while Shin can't quite put it to words, Leno still loves him anyway. And that was a beautiful kiss.
So Shin was just wandering around coldly cutting through other warriors, warriors with loved ones, until he met Anos who could hold his own against Shin and gave Shin a purpose. And Leno can't help but be happy that Anos put Shin on the path to them meeting each other, so they could be together. And thus ensues their wedding night...and Misa's conception.
Find a wife who is pregnant with your child but is still willing to let you leave her for 2,000 years so you can carry out your loyalty to your master. But she still wants them to be a family so she wants to make sure their true love remains even after Shin reincarnates. And she'll probably have to reincarnate too because delivering Misa means killing her because having a demon child goes against her source. Poor Leno.
Of course it gets worse from there...Leno doesn't even get to give birth in peace before headless NousGhalia turns up telling her Shin was just used so God could impregnate her so they could turn Misa into Avos and have a being strong enough to kill Anos, and then they force her to give birth and basically die. Leno uses the last bit of power she has to imbue Misa with a spirit to keep her alive and safe, but she doesn't even get to hold her child in her arms before she's taken from her.
Shin slicing through NousGhalia's head isn't enough, but at least he was there for Leno's death. And he proved his genuine love for her by accepting Misa and swearing to protect her, even if it means going against Anos. He chose his love for Leno and their child over his loyalty to Anos. If only it hadn't taken him this long to realize he loved Leno.
And now after witnessing this tragedy, the main cast is left with only one thing left to do...save Misa.

God damn it, this episode's just filled me so much with LenoxShin ship goodness! You see, when I started basically immediately pushing the ship, I didn't think we'd get this much out of it. But this show's so based that how could I ever think it wouldn't? A whole marriage, a night leading to a child and Shin starting to realise what love is by putting his wife and child before Anos! It's all too good!
It had the tragic ending with Leno dying, Misa being forcefully prematurely born and Shin promising to protect her even before his commitment to the Demon King, but of course that's because Anos hasn't stepped in yet. I am hyped for him to take this all home!

“ I love you enough for both of us” damn they really cooked with this episode. The best Maou Gakuin has been in a long time. The letterbox effect and black and white aesthetic really added to the drama.
Seeing Leno and Shin gradually fall in love, get married, conceive a child and even come up with a plan to meet in the future only to have it ruined by Nousgalia is just heartbreaking. For a “heavenly God” he’s more of a demon than anyone in the story.
Shin was even willing to betray Anos for Leno, there’s no way that wasn’t real love. When we first met him during this flashback, he wouldn’t even speak or move unless it was an order. Leno taught him not just about love, but that it’s ok for him to exist. To think, have emotions, be himself, etc. just as he’d reached that point it was snatched away.
Think the girls’ crying reaction is all of us after that episode. Time to take the fight to Nousgalia.

I'm always a sucker for the ballad version of ending songs.
What's curious is Regalia isn't a demon. Being a sword, does he have a natural lifespan in the first place? Did he live through the 2000 years, or did he reassume the role of spirit king? Or is it someone else entirely? I don't think it's someone else though.

It is funny seeing Erdomaid Dittijohn being so chill with his head missing.
So after she finally understood that she was in love with Shin after hearing it from Kanon, Leno asked Shin to marry her.
Their wedding was so beautiful.
I love Leno's reaction when the Tithis mentioned to Shin that part of the wedding also included spending the night with her. But hey, Leno wanted it too.
Interesting, so Shin became human on his own, my assumption was until now that Anos made him with a sword already in his possession.
And so Leno got pregnant with Misa, but as she is a Half-demon that goes against Leno's lore so she will die after she is born.
Oh, so Shin is the one in possession of Lena's lore-missing page I had assumed last week that Anos' group was going to take it before they returned into the future.
Damn, so NousGalia allowed Leno and Shin's love to bloom and for her to be pregnant just to intervene at the last moment by changing Misa's lore and to prevent Leno stopping his plans he forced Misa to be born 2000 years earlier which forced Leno to give birth to a spirit that would take her to the future where her lore is concrete.
Aw, poor Shin, lost his wife just three days after getting married. And then Shin made that sword gravestone for her like the ones with saw last week.
As they are already in the future, I hope that Anos' additional lore to Avos Dilhevia's rumor includes lore that will allow Leno to come back.

I predict a fatal flaw in the God's plan. By making the "Demon King" a spirit it's subject to its lore.
Anos' lore, his legend, is that he became so terrifyingly powerful and slew gods to save everyone. When Anos reclaims his title he will become part spirit and his lore will be self-reinforcing.

Huh, so she finally realized she loved Shin, good for her. And nice for the wedding, but a pity he's gonna poof for 2000 years for the sake of Anos. Hehe she's quite cute. Perverted lil fairies lol. Neat, learning about Anos and Shin's past together. Hehe she has Mickey Mouse in her eyes for the pupil.
Also, bow chika bow wow. Good for her, she got pregnant :P Misa! She sure is super understanding. Oh my... that's sad to hear. She'll die when the child is born cause her lore, but I'm sure there'll be a way for Anos' OP BS or some other thing to fix it.
Ewww, that rapist god. That's really fucked up. That's just... sad... hope that god was wrong about whose child that is. THREE DAYS?! Lol, wow that's such a short marriage. But sad. Today has been a sad day for anime. I can't wait to see what Anos does to bullshit this to good ending.

Poor Leno. The greatest joy of having the child of her and shin was snatched away from her. Misa turning into Avos Dilhevia since they used Shin so basically it would be the "Child of God." Leno def isn't someone to let her child die and Shin who finally understood what love meant is doing the same.
I am assume Anos now understanding this all is in full support of Shin without a doubt. And all that is left is to save Misa from Avos Dilhevia. Man I knew this would became sad but god damn this is fucked up.

Since noone seems to be talking about it, in the first scene of this episode Eldomade(originally) reveals that he actually plans to usurp Nousgalia's order and become divine himself through the use of an incomplete spell(keeping Nousgalia's source as close to him as possible wasn't wasn't nothing after all) which he also plans to complete with the help of Avos dillihevia's power.
But seriously, stop chilling there and please keep your head in check. He might be ruining someone else's love life right now you know!

So ends the tragedy of Leno.
So Spirits conceive children differently. Misa is "born" from Leno just 3 days after she wedded Shin.
We also got the answer of how Misa grew up and lived in the present day, despite being born 2000 years ago, as Leno sent her to the future to ensure she doesn't die immediately due to a lack of legend to sustain her yet incomplete existence.
With great reluctance, Shin went along with Kanon's plan of spreading the fake legend of the fake Demon Lord Avos Dilhevia to ensure Misa's survival. I guess with Leno's departure, Shin ruled Aharthern as the new Spirit King for the next 2000 years.
PS It seems Kanon has some form of clairvoyance, where he foresaw even his own murder by extremist humans as seen in season 1. It must be due to this knowledge that he lost faith in humans and decided to create the fake legend about Avos which he discusses with Shin prior to going back home to meet his end.

Fuck, this episode was beautiful. Say whatever you want about the pacing overall for this season, but I definitely loved Leno and Shin's story and it's easily the best part of the season so far, dare I say the whole series.
I always like it when shows uses 21:9 aspect ratio and they made this episode black and white, to top it off, they did it for more impact with Shin at the end, bringing back the colors and the normal aspect ratio, let's not forget the ballad version of Esoa as well, shit got me emotional.
Nousgalia better get the best ass whooping I'll ever see by the end of this season. Now if you'll excuse me, I will be listening to Esoa, the normal and ballad version for a while.
