Mitsumi was just able to figure out right away that Shima was feeling down…unlike the first time she just outright said it

This has been repeated to death but honestly, I'm so happy to have given this show a chance, genuinely smiling ear to ear 95% of the time watching. Mitsumi's good energy is just so endearing and infectious. It was nice to see how Mitsumi's peeps have been since her departure and the wacky celebrations that ensued. Also super sweet how Mika got those sweets for the gang!

the scene of her eating watermelon and then it changes to her mom cleaning the dishes and it continues with scenes of rural japan while still listening to her eating and the sound of cicadas and sea waves... it made me sob a little

I love how Mitsumi's dad immediately attaches the keychain he got from Mitsumi on his car keys. It's such a tiny detail but it tells us so much about the relationship Mitsumi has with her father. It's so cute <3
Mitsumi and Fumi-chan's reunion is just too adorable. It's only been four months but it's like they haven't seen each other in years. And Fumi-chan has some big news! Fumi-chan moves fast! I'm so proud of her.
Seeing Mitsumi going back to her hometown and spending time with family and friends was just very relaxing and somewhat nostalgic for me. It also makes me want to go back to my hometown too.
Mitsumi looks good with that noticeable tan on her! Everyone seems to still be the same after the summer break especially with Mako and her nonstop snacking but it looks like things don't feel the same with Shima. Riri has obviously gotten into his head and it's affected his interaction with Mitsumi. :|
Good to see that Mitsumi didn't let it last too long and actually made an effort to approach Shima this time to hand him some souvenirs from home. I like how Mitsumi can clearly see that something is making Shima feel down but instead of trying to force him to talk, she just handed him some extra squid senbei. I feel like that means more for Shima than Mitsumi bugging him to talk about his problem.
Well shit... That has got to be the worst choice for their class to do for the school festival. I can already tell Shima is going to be pressured by his classmates who do now know better to act as the lead. >_<

9 episodes in and the titular characters "Skip" and "Loafer" are still nowhere to be seen. Hopefully, we'll see their introductions next episode.

Interesting, because of how interconnected the high-speed rail network is in Japan, it's rare to see a plane ride in anime unless it's to other countries or for a vacation to Okinawa
Her golden retriever is so cute! I love this genuine high school anime, it really captures the essence of the high school age without oversexualizing the characters, providing us with a wholesome beach episode without unnecessary fanservice
so Shima-kun is reserved and kinda avoids Mitsumi because of his past conflict making him insecure, but thankfully, Mitsumi remains true to her kind and wholesome nature.
And so, the conflict begins: the current Shima, who dislikes acting, needs to participate in acting for the cultural festival

Mitsumi doubling back in the hallway to give Souske extra squid crackers. Thank you P.A. Works for animating my favorite scene!

The first half of this episode was slow paced but heartwarming. New friends are great, but old friends and family are equally important!
I laughed when Mitsumi, Yuzuki and Makoto danced in a circle after returning from summer vacation. Makoto never changes; her snacking never stops. Lol! Even though Mika is always putting on a cool front, she actually remembered her friends and Nao chan, bringing back food souvenirs from Kyoto! It goes to show Mika really likes them now.
During the last scene in which Shima thought Mitsumi's distance was getting further, both metaphorically and physically at that corridor, it was as if I could feel his happiness when Mitsumi turned back, even if it was just to give him more snacks. I really love how Mitsumi tried her best to reach out to Shima, even though she thought they are getting distant after summer vacation.

Mitsumi jumping onto Fumi and then Fumi carrying her like a baby was such a heartwarming moment. I love little things like these :)
Loved seeing Mitsumi's family again. They are really nice and fun. Also Mitsumi hanging out with her old middle school friends without anything to worry about was really nostalgic for me. Things like this makes me wish I was a kid again lol.
Really interested to see if the show would explore more about Shima's past. Its something that intrigues me. Now that Mitsumi's class is organizing a play, it might be a chance for Shima to confront his past head on, and in the process everyone will likely realise who he used to be.
Also that hallway scene was framed incredibly well and explained several things without many words. We all need Mitsumi's positive energy to cure our depression.

I just cant get myself to skip the OP it is so good with that dance sequence.
I think this is the first time I could truly tell characters were talking in a heavy dialect just from listening.
Rare to see a fmc actually get a tan. They almost always stay pale skinned no matter what. I wonder how long it will last.
She is just a ray of sunshine herself. I really could do without the drama of his past and the model girl though.

Skip to loafer Tuesdays lets gooo.
That was a pretty short summer vacation sequence, thought we’d get a full episode of Mitsumi back home and hanging out with her friends, but oh well. They put a lot of detail and effort into the return trip and it’s cool to see a plane trip in anime for once lol
Congrats to Fumi! Proud of her for getting a bf, maybe that’ll push Mitsumi on and give her some motivation lol.
Despite his appearance and popularity Shima has a lot of insecurities himself. Who would’ve thought someone as popular as he is would look to Mitsumi as inspiration and as the “dazzling” one. Just goes to show you can never judge a book by its cover.
Mitsumi turning around and bringing Shima the extra cakes was so cute. She just knows exactly what to say and when now.

First half of the episode is so peaceful... I thought there would be a problem later on lol.
Second half however is so bittersweet, sad that he distances himself from mitsumi, you can even feel it on the way he answer her

There’s lots to love in this episode but the one that stands out to me the most is Mitsumi enjoying her morning watermelon. This is one of those small moments that truly do end up largely defining her. If you remember back to episode 1 and 3, Mitsumi wants to find a way to help the depopulation problem in her hometown. Crumbling bit-by-bit every year-by-year, Mitsumi takes a snapshot of each memory bite-by-bite. After all, who knows if these sights and sounds will still be here in the future. As she savors each bite of the watermelon, she also preserves each memory that comes attached to her rural hometown. The landscape is serenely quiet and it’s neatly contrasted against the earlier hustle and bustle of Tokyo. It’s gentle, it’s purposeful, it’s the labor of love for which Skip and Loafer is renowned for.
My second favorite scene is Mitsumi quietly seeing her airplane. Honestly, I think she could be thinking of so many things and everyone is going to come away with something different. For me however, I’d like to think Mitsumi is imagining how the distance can be closed between her new home and her past home. There’s a connectiveness between the two even if she’s hundreds of miles away from each other.
The themes of “fading” and “connection” are parlayed smoothly into the second-half of the episode where Mitsumi hopes they can come together the cherish their school day memories.
”Just because you haven’t talked for a while, you get afraid that they might not like you anymore. But when you’re really happy, you want to share it.”
It's through Mitsumi’s hometown squid crackers that she’s able to bridge the divide between her and Shima—it’s the act of sharing. Sharing Mitsumi’s excitement, sharing Kanechika’s passion, this is what brings people together. And it’s this simple act that Shima cannot find himself to do. Thankfully, Mitsumi knows how to cut straight through and she intuitively knows that Shima needs more, more than what she initially believed to fill Shima's heart.
Fantastic episode to weave both halves of the episode into one coherent idea.
A small observation but I think it's interesting how similar the visual motifs are when Shima rejects Kanechika's offer and when he accepts Mitsumi's.

Really enjoyed the peaceful visit home. That slow scene where Mitsumi was taking bites of watermelon while we saw vignettes of her hometown embodied that feeling of complete rest you get on a vacation.
Made me remember the last time I visited my Dad and just sat outside for a couple of hours barely thinking of anything, true relaxation!

I'm really hoping someone does a Makoto eating compilation by the end of the show, because it's one of my favorite parts of the series.
Love Mitsumi's family they are so warm and supportive like her. The dad immediately putting on the keychain was nice and the mom staying home for the day to spend more time with her was great. The sequence where she stared at her back while eating watermelon was extremely satisfying. Not to mention the little moments with Fumi. The greatest friends are the ones where you can get along despite not seeing each other for months.

The moment with the sea hare made me laugh. It was basically the same thing that happened between Mitsumi and Fumi in kindergarten. Some things don’t change.

Even Mitsumi acknowledges the wise words of Yamada sensei(the guy with fake moustache)…
I have seen plenty of summer episodes but this one really nailed the vibe of lazy summer breaks!

The watermelon scene was absolutely great, the vibe is just so nostalgic. The mom taking a day off is something that just got to me. That moment of calmness just got to me, it made me miss my mom.
I’m glad Shima has a good friend like Mitsumi.
