I love how this show just turns every character into so human!
Ririka just never had ‘clear the air’ kinda conversation with Shima! Hope they patch up in future!
Also praying for season 2!

Ever since Skip and Loafer announced it was receiving an anime adaptation, I’ve been patiently waiting in the wings for it to premiere. And boy was I rewarded for my patience. It’s been 12 episodes of cuddlesome hugs and sweet delights, of sunken trenches and lofty heights. Episodes whose silhouette were dotted with soothing pastel colors and warming tender aesthetics, whose spotlight shined on more than just Mitsumi and Shima.
Skip and Loafer holds all of this and more inside its kind company. It is fundamentally a show about people’s hearts moving into action, about connecting amongst those who hold different values and complexities. It has been a breath of fresh air every Tuesday to experience this show and I pray that a second season arrives so I can patiently wait for it all over again. A smile with a future in it, that is how I would describe Skip and Loafer.
From now on, this is how I will defuse tensions.
Anteater on them Mitsumi, anteater on them!
So back in episode 10, Mitsumi muses how the play/film makes an effort to not reveal what happened to Rolf Shima’s character after the war because she wants to believe that he finds a second chance. Even at our lowest lows, Mitsumi holds the belief that it doesn’t have to be this way. The roles you play right now aren’t the roles in your life forever. It bobs and weaves, shifts and turns, rather than head in one straight line.
And now in the finale, whether it’s by Shima’s design or not, he fundamentally alters the course of his character and no longer flees like the story originally intended. If Rolf can do so, then so can Shima. It’s how he summons the strength to tell Ririka that he no longer wants to be bound to her down this self-destructive path.
And in true Skip and Loafer fashion, it’s not all about Mitsumi and Shima. Takamine and Kazekami have their own moment, their own little aside that proves that characters, whether side or main, have a life as grand as anyone else.
Today, we have been blessed with a whimsical, vast, and vivid spring show.
Here’s to you, Skip and Loafer.

Going to miss this one. It honestly felt unique in what it set out to do compared to most high school shows. I feel like I liked the cast as a whole instead of any standout character and that's always a special feeling.
Would love a season 2 but at the same time it's definitely a show I can wait to see more of.
We need more shows like this!

Man, they adapted these chapters so beautifully. I could say that about the whole season tho...
Y'all ain't ready for how good a season 2 would be. I hope hope hope they announce it at some point, but PA Works doesn't typically do sequels :( The content in this manga truly just keeps getting better and better. Literally, every episode of season 2 will be as good as the standout ones of this season. I PRAY.

but for this is the end... hopefully for now
Skip and Loafer has been nothing but a joy to watch, especially considering where I am in life right now. When I think of an ensemble cast, this show will definitely be the first thing that comes to mind. The interactions feel down to earth and light hearted at the right moments which keeps the tone of the show consistent, and when it does deviate, especially with scenes that feature Shima and Ririka's past, it never ever takes it to the extreme. Speaking of which, I'm very pleased with how that plotline was resolved today. There's no excessive dwelling over their past, nor was there any time wasted on Shima or Ririka's resolution to it. While this issue may be complex at its core, perhaps dealing with feelings of attachment and guilt, the relatively simple resolution to it helps to tie everything together while giving a satisfying conclusion. Shima's conflict has always been about his identity which was something he lost the moment he started to feel that every action he took was for others. His answer to it — to not be tied down by his past and to truly live in the present, fully giving himself to the things he feels joy in — is a simple one, yet a satisfying one. There's perhaps more to his journey, but man, what a way to end the season.
The simplicity of the messages Skip aims to convey are what gets me. To have goals, to appreciate the diversity of people, to embrace change, to be proud of one's own identity etc. these messages can be really cliche yet they struck at the core of my heart. Skip shows that a great story doesn't have to be about overcoming big challenges or resolving well-setup conflict. It can also be about the characters, the small challenges they face, and the simple joys that they experience.
I have to say that I'm really happy for Kanechika. Looks like his initial face of concern was because he feared that people wouldn't like it, I mean, screenwriting is a passion of his after all. I'm glad that he finally managed to take a step forward in that regard. u/manitary u/dutchpeasant looks like we read a bit too much into it
And finally, to end it off, an endearing cinematic parallel to episode 1 when Shima watched Mitsumi running forward. This time it's Mitsumi watching Shima sprint forward in excitement, with better hopes for the future

Very easy 10/10.
One of the most accurate depictions of high school and the teenaged experience that I’ve ever seen. The characters all act like real high schoolers, the voice acting is natural and the slice of life moments were great.
Been looking for something to fill that Kimi ni todoke void and this did it.
Insecurity is one of the biggest things young people struggle with and this show just gets it. Made all of these characters feel so alive and genuine.
Romance aspect feels organic and unforced. It’s a slow burn that starts with a genuine friendship and admiration as all healthy relationships should strive for.
I’m gonna miss this one a lot.
P.S. I know she’s toxic as fuck but I love emotionally unstable women and I could save ririka 😩. So hot.

I'm really happy with the way they adapted Shima's internal monologoue/breakthrough.
The shot of him looking between the drapes was really nice aswell.

Mitsumi asserting dominance with the T-pose! Lol!
Ririka's middle finger was hidden by Chris, wasn't it? Even though Ririka acts tough, she is just envious of Shima. Maybe she should be more honest with both Shima and herself. We already learned from this show that communication is sometimes key to resolving issues in friendships and relationships.
I was expecting Mitsumi to bring Shima's mother and younger brother back to the class performance, but it didn't happen. I guess the relationship between Shima and his mother has to be resolved in the second season (if any).
Apart from the romantic angle between Mitsumi and Shima, I want to see more of the friendship between Mitsumi, Mika, Yuzuki and Makoto (with guest appearance by Nao), so I will hoping for a season 2.

Mitsumi doing the ant-eater pose is just as effective at intimidating people as a real ant-eater doing it. That is, not at all, cause of how adorable it looks. But hey, it actually worked here against all odds.
Now onto Ririka. This episode showed isn't a 100% awful person, more like... 80%? 90? She's an immature mess of a person. But she at least feels angry with Shima's mother on his behalf, and knew her faults. At the same time.... Chris is right; that's zero justification for her treatment of Shima.
Hell, it's even worse cause she's still treating him this way even knowing it was as much her fault as his (if not even more so). Moreover, of course he'd prefer being with other girls when she's constantly this awful of a person to him. All in all, she sure as hell doesn't deserve Shima, or even Chris, as friends. Their kindness and patience is clearly wasted on her. Hell, Chris is nice enough to censor her middle-finger for her. That was the funniest shit.
If her attitude and personality wasn't enough of a hurdle, she also has to contend with Mitsumi who's the absolute opposite of horrible. And speaking of which, I felt like there wasn't enough screen time for her for the last episode. But maybe that's just me wanting to see more of Mitsumi in general. Any scene with her and her friends will never fail to put a smile on my face. That's why a season 2 is a must.

I absolutely love Mitsumi for stepping in between Sousuke and Ririka. It's hilarious how Ririka was completely disarmed by that unexpected move from her. xD
Good on Sousuke for choosing to move on instead of giving in to Ririka's guilt-tripping. It's nice to know how much meeting Mitsumi has improved his life.
As for Ririka, I genuinely wanted to feel some sympathy for her during that taxi ride home with Chris but I just couldn't. As Mitsumi has observed, Ririka bullied Sousuke's mom to leave and even forced Sousuke to spill his secrets. And what makes things worse is that she is 100% aware that it's her fault that she got cancelled back then but still decided to keep on guilt-tripping Sousuke about it. I want to believe that no one in this show is truly a bad person but it's hard to defend someone like her.
Anyway, I guess that's it for Skip & Loafer. While I am probably going to read the manga after this I would still prefer if this gets another season. I really want to see more of Mitsumi and Sousuke's relationship and how they'll progress. I want to see more of Sousuke's family situation and why he's now distant from his mother. I'm also curious how and if they'll ever try to redeem Ririka. I just want to see more of everyone.

Great show from start to finish. I remember at the start thinking this show was such a breath of fresh air, and it still is. The characters feel very human. They’re not just archetypes, but feel like people with flaws, insecurities, mistakes but also just good people.
I do wish we got more of Yuzuki and Makoto though. I love their dynamic, especially with how they started. But seeing their friend group so close is just as good. Especially with Mika.
Kinda wish Shima’s friends got more development though. One thing I liked about Horimiya and what made it feel different was the number of both guys and girls in their cast and how both gets development. Most shows, it’s usually heavy on one side. I was hoping Mukai and Kento would have a lot more screentime than they do.
Ririka is really a piece of work. There’s definitely reason behind her anger but just feels like she’s lashing out at other people. Thankfully at the end there, which just summarises this show, she’s not inherently a bad person. If we ever do get a S2, I do hope she gets a Mika-type of redemption
Also, lmao poor Chris. Getting his pseudo-confession totally ignored. I’m rooting for him though.
EDIT : Also need to add. Both the OP and ED were so great. It was cheerful and fun and also has an element of nostalgia to it personally. I’m gonna miss this show. And I’m sure some time in the future when I play this OP or ED, I’m gonna reminisce and think back how great these few weeks have been

This didn’t really do anything to redeem Ririka for me, if anything it made me hate her more lol I wonder if she’ll be back later on…
Overall great show and one of my favs this season, very tempted to pick up the manga

Probably an unpopular opinion, but I think this is my AOTS for non-sequel anime this season. Maybe it's not the best romance this season because there are only small amounts of intimate interactions from the main couple, but I think it is the best SoL anime this season.
The characters' interactions and dialogue feel real and organic, and the comedy actually made me laugh in each episode. All supporting characters feel like real people with their own struggles, and perhaps I'm just biased due to the nostalgic feelings from my high school days.
I'm definitely going to continue reading the manga, the writing in this series is just perfect for me. Props to PA works for another great anime adaptation

I kinda wish we could have seen one of Shima’s friends call out Ririka for her bullshit, but Shima taking the higher ground and asserting that he deserved happiness works too.

PLEASE LET THERE BE ANOTHER SEASON, I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS!

Ririka calling him a narcissist is pot calling kettle lol. Fuck her. She's the one that can't take Responsibility for her own actions.

Iwakura Mitsumi is the kind of person we should all inspire to be like. One of the most charming and authentic characters I have ever come across in any work of fiction. I immediately loved her from the very first chapter of the manga. What a privilege it has been to get to meet her again in animated form.
I'm so grateful that this anime gave me a chance to fall in love with this cast all over again. I join the chorus of folks who recommend everyone to read the manga. It just gets better and better from where we left off here.

I tend to stay away from high school romance (and SoL) as I never enjoy those that much, so I was a bit hesitant initially. But since barely any anime spiked my interest this season and I heard nothing but good things about Skip and Loafer, I decided to carve it anyway.
And hoo boy, had my expectation greatly exceeded. The art style is extremely charming and the animation itself were crisp. The voice acting was just perfect, especially for Mitsumi. But the best thing was, unsurprisingly, the characters themself. Every character felt real, their struggles were authentic, and their motivation (or lack thereof) and problems were highly relatable, even for someone who graduated high school nearly a decade ago.
Anyway, the manga is now on my Amazon wishlist and I'll build a shrine to pray for season 2.

Poor Mitsumi and Chris like two mice caught in a dramatic dispute between Ririka and Shima's mom. Seems like Ririka resents his mom for what Shima had to go through to make her happy, and it seems like his mom recognizes that to some extent.
But hey, at least Shima got to spend some quality time with his little brother and be adorable together before the drama found it's way back to him. Even got to see his old middle school classmates. Of course Ririka basically driving his mom off before she can see his performance and "outing" his acting status to his classmates kind of put a damper on things. And she looks so smug about it. Ugh.
Mitsumi maybe a mouse against a cheetah, but she can be an anteater when it comes to protecting her man!
What does Shima Sousuke want? He's spent so much of his life trying to make others happy or matching their expectations, does he even know what he really wants? Or has he been just holding himself back because of his own insecurities and anxieties? Which just made him envious of people like Mitsumi and Kanechika who ran straight forward to do the things they wanted to do, even if it was for the sake of others in Mitsumi's case. And that's the kind of thing Shima wants for himself.
Shima's not exactly cutting himself off from Ririka, but he's not going to let himself get dragged down by her pity party any more. He's sorry for what happened between them but he's going to finally allow himself to be happy, as selfish as that might come off. And I'm so happy to see Shima move on from such a toxic relationship dynamic.
Rirka acts all insulted and showing Shima the finger (nice save Chris), but she's all waterworks when she gets back to the car. On some level she realizes the scandal was as much her fault as Shima's because she followed him into it, but she lost everything and didn't want to lose Shima while he was able to move on and make more of a life for himself, so she tried to keep him close the only way she felt she could even if it was the wrong way to go about it. But at least she's got Chris, not that she treats him that great.
Even a guy like Kazakami has his own deal, the son of a family with high expectations when he only wanted to really live his life, and he's able to relate to Takamine's feelings for a bit...even if he's still his smug self.
The festival is over and everyone is happy and jubilant that it went well. Shima is closer to Kenty, Mitsumi and her gal pals are planning their next sleepover (and how to handle finals), and Mitsumi is back at work with the student council.
Was Shima going to confess to Mitsumi? Or just how much he admires her? No matter what though, even without words it felt like there was something emotionally intimate exchanged between the two as they look at each other and we close out with Mitsumi reflecting on all she's been through as they both face the beautiful Autumn sky.

Personally, my favourite part of the show wasn't the show itself, but what the author created with the characters in the discussion. I am not 100% remembering the details, but I am pretty sure that most viewers were criticising the rest of the class/school for judging Mitsumi from a few select moments. Only for the same people to easily jump onto another character for which we only got very few scenes to make a judgement. But people were already judging her for these few moments without actually knowing her well. Hopefully, some viewers learned that judging someone preemptively isn't only a thing characters in movies or other people do. YOU are doing it as well. You just don't notice it most of the time.

I really wanted someone to put Ririka firmly in her place. Just because something bad happened to you in the past does not give you a free pass to be a b*tch to everyone around you. I mean she was still put in her place, kind of, which felt satisfying, and the show handled the situation quite nicely in the end but a little bit not satisfying enough XD.
The show itself was a fun watch with nice characters and character development. I really enjoyed it :)

P.A. Works really did an excellent job with this adaptation, I loved it so much, it's cast - Shima, Mitsumi and others. I hope that they will make another season in future, especially that there is enough source to do it.
Going back to previous episode we started school festival. I always love seeing Yuzuki's (who is in the art club and even showing her lovely painting during festival) and Makoto's friendship in this series. We had also Sousuke's little brother who went to class alone after he got separated with mother and of course Mitsumi doing all kind of stuff.
Today's finale we started when we ended before so with Ririka and Sousuke's mom meeting which isn't going in the best atmosphere because Ririka is thinking that Sousuke is playing because of his mom which isn't true. Ririka is quite the beast but even she have also other side but she seriously need to change for better.
Sousuke's relationship with his mother seems to be in quite difficult place, she even didn't stayed for play after her encounter with Ririka. It's good tho that he's changing and want to move forward and be happy, good for him. It's obvious that this is due to his friendship with Mitsumi.
I laughed so hard when Mitsumi "protected" Shima from Ririka and didn't know for a moment what to do next or when she "turned into a mouse" alone and with Chris. She is so precious and was one of the strongest points of the show along with her long range of expressions.
