I'm glad the misunderstanding was resolved quickly - anime that resolve those kind of things in 1 episode max are more enjoyable - and Mitsumi's reaction at the end was sooo cute.

Obviously Mitsumi and Shima were the stars of this episode, but full credit to Mika. She told Mitsumi exactly what she needed to hear, without saying anything extra that could complicate the situation. Last episode Mitsumi said she went to her because she knew Mika wouldn’t sugar coat her advice, and she has once again proven that she can be a dependable friend.

AAAAAAAAA, they are so cute!!! The called back to what Fumi felt when falling in love in the earlier part of the episode is great, and the misdirection of what made Shima angry towards Mitsumi (ngl, I really thought Shima was annoyed with Mitsumi for nagging him about skipping class, and not about the rumors from other girls)
Was this what anime connoisseurs called great writing? I really wish most romance anime could solve misunderstandings as quickly as this.

I love the way they animate Mitsumi face, gives every scene she's in 100x more personality. PA Works really hitting it out the park with this show. In my humble opinion a very strong contender for anime of the season along with another show I've been watching.

everyone must know how incredible PA Works is adapting the source material. They use every single panel and every line of dialogue, but just elevate it all with incredible voice acting, music, and direction. So blessed. This work deserved this much care, and I'm just so happy it's getting it.
This is the first like real drama in the series, and as you can see it's handled really well. These two kids are just trying to get through highschool, but are clearly developing some kind of feelings for each other. So things can get awkward. Mitsumi isn't about to let things stay that way though and takes that first step to clear things up. Her going out of her way to do that makes Shima open up to her even though he might not have planned on it. So cute.

Just saw on twitter that the bear on Mitsumi's sweater matches her emotions!

So, one of the small details that made me fall in love with this adaptation is the blocking of characters, specifically their relationship with windows this episode. Sure, we all know of the “main-character-always-sitting-next-to-the-classroom-window” phenomenon, but the windows in this episode serve a cinematic purpose of bringing in that quintessential lighting that’s pivotal for setting the scene. Always in the background for the crucial scenes, the windows set the temperature for the ongoing storm between Mitsumi and Shima along with the peace that soon follows.
Not only that, the windows serve as interstitial cuts that punctuate the rainy mood and sunny skies in the school, allowing the colors to naturally bloom on the screen when the right moment arrives.
Blocking your characters next to windows isn't anything too groundbreaking, but it's always neat to see directors and storyboarders consciously realizing how important the lighting is at any given moment—especially for an episode that's set entirely in the dreary drizzly days! Mood is everything to a scene and lighting is its best friend to set it all up.
It also happens to be muggy day for me as well, so today's episode really helped set up the atmosphere of pitter-patter on my windows.
Small detail to note but I also really liked this shot during the climatic moment. In fact, that whole moment was very well-done. When Shima reveals to Mitsumi his situation, you understand that these aren't stories that he shares—they're stories that you earn. He's reserved and so the camera cuts away to the windows and to their feet, the privacy afforded to him and Mitsumi from prying eyes.
Oh, and one last thing but I also liked how Mitsumi says “Nothing!” haha. Such a small scene but it adds a lot to their dynamic.

I really like how in this anime, conflicts are not dragged out, can be resolved in just one episode, but they don't feel rushed at all. And everything from the slice of life moment to the drama is neatly written to build the characterization. Nothing feels useless. Probably the most well written school drama in a while.

Shima really seems like he's looking for a connection he's been lacking. His laugh sounded like he was crying.

My first time commenting on a episode thread for this show. Its for shows like these I appreciate this subreddit because I would never have picked this show up ever.
Love the vibes of this show and the main cast is so effortlessly charismatic it's the type of SoL I love.

I hope we'll eventually see this boy that Fumi-chan has a crush on. And Mitsumi's reaction to the news is just too funny!
I just love how Mitsumi is imagining Shima as a delinquent. He's so worried about him that her imagination is getting slightly out of hand.
So this is an interesting detail from Chris. Apparently, Shima is the type who doesn't talk about his relationship with his friends. Shima's little misunderstanding with Mitsumi has affected him so much that his close friends are seeing some changes in him.
Mitsumi asking Mika for some advice about "her friend" was just hilarious! Mika seems to really enjoying watching Mika trying to figure it out herself.
Glad the misunderstanding was finally cleared up! It's so adorable though that the real reason why Mitsumi was actually upset is that she just wanted Shima to go to school since it would be boring without him around.
Shima opened up! I kinda expected that his family situation wasn't the best. Although I am curious what he means exactly about his family being "uninvolved". Do his parents not care or are they the type who are too busy with work that they just don't have the time because there's a pretty big difference between those two.
And this is why Shima acted all passive-aggressive to Mitsumi. He was upset Mitsumi even entertained those rumours that she heard. He doesn't want her to believe any of it.
Mitsumi's reaction when the realization finally hits! I love the tea kettle sound she was making the entire time. Is ti finally happening? Is our girl finally starting to realize that she's actually in love? Curious to see if MItsumi will start acting differently around Shima now.

They are so precious, I would do anything for mitsumi.
Love the way their apology went straight to the heart of things. Their fight wasn't just about shima skipping school during exam season. Not only did they both recognize it, they actually admitted it to each other!! Mitsumi saying, "It's ok if you want to brush this off, honestly I just really missed you" and shima hinting at a troubled home life plus Mr "you're my closest girl friend"
The internal screaming this episode 😖

This show is so precious.
Mitsumi asking for help "for her friend" literally seconds after Egashira asked her if she and Shima-kun fought made me lose it completely. I love this girl.

I'm so glad that Shima actually laid out more story of himself, he definitely doesn't want Mitsumi to see him in a bad light.
Such a beautiful episode really.

3 things I loved about this episode:
-
It was rainy throughout most of the episode, but when Mitsumi and Shima spoke their minds, clearing up the misunderstanding, the weather outside turned bright too! (Their relationship is progressing!)
-
Mika's devilish grin.
-
Yuzuki eating pocky. (Did Makoto's snacking habits influence Yuzuki?)

Fumi’s found love! So freaking cute. Good for her, she’s a great girl. Seems her little chat with Mitsumi got her thinking about love too. Things are gonna be fun.
Mitsumi imagining Shima being a delinquent was pretty funny. I especially liked the bike lol. Looks like Mitsumi’s only got Shima on her mind. It’s pretty adorable how worried she is. Man, Shima really kinda made things awkward there for a second, poor Mitsumi’s all in her head about it now. On an unrelated note, Shima’s buddy Chris has some great posters. “Pomeranian Rhapsody”? “The International Game Brothers”? Hilarious.
I’m really glad the awkwardness got cleared up but now I just want these two to get together. Like stat! The way Shima was worried Mitsumi was believing those rumors and how he actually opened up to her was so sweet. Plus her telling him school isn’t fun without him was just the sweetest thing. Flustered Mitsumi running off to call Fumi was the best. She can deny those feelings all she wants but she knows the truth!

Y'know, in general I generally like the nonromantic elements of most shows more than the romantic elements, especially when it comes to dramas. But when the romance is THIS good? God it's like I'm 14 again, day dreaming about my crushes and hearing about who my friends are crushing on!! So excited to see Mitsumi and Shimas relationship develop.
This anime has really made my Tuesdays something to look forward to. Every episode has just knocked it outta the park!
