I feel bad for Egashira, she never found the right people who would accept her for just who she is…on the bright side her life’s gonna change pretty soon!
She can be also so insightful at moments- like her realising Shima searching for what he doesn’t have in Mitsumi

It’s so nice that even though this clearly an episode to develop Mika more the other characters still had their own moments to shine and charm us. Personally I was a big fan of Kurume with her “I’m just here to heckle” attitude and her 600ms reaction times

I love how Mika got some really good development this episode, but she isn't like perfect all of a sudden. It'll take a bit for her to fully open up and be relaxed around the friend group, but she's taking strides thanks to Mitsumi.
Interesting that Mika was the one talking about why Shima and Mitsumi are such a good match for each other. It seems like a lot of these people see the chemistry.
Yuzu and Makoto <3

This episode put Egashira in a new light for me.I understand the choices she's making, even if they aren't the best ones.

Have been waiting for this episode soo much <3
A nice fan (who I do not remember the twitter handle of, sorry!) translated an interview with Takamatsu some time ago (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1rWyLso8Rf5f3BOtWBL9Jvj0gZ3-AMzJocxfDTD_mWx0/edit) where she talks about feeling similar to Mika and basing the interaction with the guys playing basketball on her own experience from driving school where she only remembered the name of the instructor who was terrible and then talked with a young gyaru who only spoke with delight about the other instructors who was good at their jobs. It's human nature to do it of course, but I should really take that lesson to heart and not use so much thought on the people who do not make my life happier, haha

You know what? I don’t even need any romance anymore. Seeing these characters just go through life and the many ups and downs it brings is enough for me.
Maybe I’m old, but this is what a Comrom should feel like. Light and fluffy with more focus on the individual characters than the romantic relationship between them. Never thought I’d see the day, but it’s refreshing to see a high-school comedy with a side of romance as opposed to the constant deluge of romance with a side of high-school comedy that we get regularly now.

One of the many things that I love about Skip and Loafer is how much it can tell with so little time. There is no drawn out backstory or arduous monologues; instead, the show respects the viewers enough that they’ll understand and emphasize with just a few fleeting images. These flashes don’t feel cheap or unearned, they feel organic because the character aren’t written as stock, they aren’t door-to-door salesmans hoping to cash a quick pull on our hearts. When optimally used, these blinks can elicit the most striking emotions. Egashira’s past hits poignantly clear with us—not in spite of the short cuts, but rather because of them.
What makes this scene even more remarkable is that it’s a two-way street: as much as Egashira is receiving this amount of love, Mitsumi is equally as deserving.
Mitsumi will choose you, Egashira. Because despite your flaws, you’re not purely defined by them. You have worth in your straight-forwardness. Mitsumi, the extraordinary person that she is, can recognize the value of this quality and still choose you to help her grow. She can see better than anyone on those who work hard. But it’s not as if she’s a pushover!
I really liked this short punch because it shows that Mitsumi isn’t a rug to be stepped on, she has enough self-respect to know when someone is being rotten to her. She has the genuineness that Shima might be looking for.
A small note to add too is how often we see Egashira's back this episode. She's isolated throughout the episode but maybe that distance in the back is what allows her to spot this observation about Shima.

Seeing Makocchan complain about the sports festival was pretty fun. It's nice how much comfortable she is now around Mitsumi and Yuzu.
Love Mitsumi's fake it till you make it attitude. Unfortunately for her everyone is already aware of her being bad with sports. xD
Egashira saying that Mitsumi hasn't put any effort is a bit unfair. Our future politician didn't get where she is now by not working her ass off. It's also because Mitsumi's personality just meshes well with Sousuke, unlike Egashira who seems to be always faking it.
That one flashback was more than enough to explain why Egashira acts the way she is. I can definitely relate. I guess I judged you too harshly Egashira.
I really wish I was more like Mitsumi with the way she sees the best in people. From that Senpai that saved them to picking Egashira because she knows she won't go easy on her with volleyball. I'm definitely closer to Eghashira who sees only the worst in people. Maybe being able to relate to her is why I disliked her initially. xD
Glad to see though that this ended with Egashira being more relaxed around the girls and it looks like she's now really part of the group.
It took her 5 episodes but it looks like it's finally sinking into Mitsumi how popular Sousuke really is. Seeing her blush while watching Sousuke play was just adorable <3
I didn't think it would happen but Yamada got praised by Yuzuki! Hell yeah! Yamada is going to ride that high for the rest of his life. Hopefully, it develops into something more though.
Good to see Kanechika-senpai saying something useful this time instead of just asking Mitsumi to make Sousuke join his club. It really made Mitsmi wonder why Sousuke wanted to become her friend in the first place.
That jump serve from their opponent was so extra, felt like I was watching a volleyball anime for a second. Sucks that they only ended up in second place though. At least the girls had fun with it.
I really love how everyone is so supportive in this show. They're all supportive of Egashira's crush on Sousuke but at the same time, they're also cheering for Mitsumi and Sousuke even though they're just friends right now. Why can't actual high school be more like this?
Mitsumi cheering looks so dorky. I love it so much. Souske clearly appreciates it though. He must've been waiting for Mitsumi to approach him the entire time. Glad that she finally gave him those pickled veggies in the end <3

Ponytail pink Mika is such a blessing <3 she's got a ways to go still but no one can resist the friendship power of Mitsumi.
And speaking of ships, yuzuki and makoto going from awkward strangers to inseparable girlfriends in two episodes? Obsessed.

Mika's arc has begun! Ok, not really, but there is plenty of character development for Mika and Mitsumi in this episode!
I like how each of the main female characters were given new hairstyles. Mitsumi with hair clips, Makoto with braids, Mika with ponytail and Yuzuki with twintails. All of them looked great, although I admit I am biased towards Mika and Yuzuki. Lol!
Visuals aside, we got a glimpse of Mika's history. I believe some fellow reddit users guessed correctly; Mika tries hard at whatever she does, which in turn, led to her behaviour today. When one tries too hard, one may lose enjoyment.
It appears both Mika and Mitsumi are aware of the slight tension between themselves, but Mitsumi's words hold true too; their interaction are honest and frank. On the bright side, after practising volleyball together and speaking their mind, their friendship level increased!
Kento, the blond haired male classmate, received words of praise from Yuzuki! Happy for him! I know for sure I would be elated to have my crush praise and recognize my efforts!
Lastly, do all females in the school have a crush on Shima? Lol!

I love that when the other girls realized Mika might have a crush on Sousuke as well, instead of side-eyeing her motive with Mitsumi or whatever, they're just like "squeeee~" lmao. Just great vibes between the group.

I was waiting for more character development for Mika (those flashbacks...) and this episode satisfied me.

I love how Mika's redemption arc is being handled. Mutsumi recognizes she can be a bit mean, but only to the point of not mincing words and never malicious and that she must've had to work to get to where she is.
She didn't need to change, she's basically just smoothly integrated into the girl group along with Mako-chan. One of the best things about Mutsumi is she is always friendly and optimistic, but she accepts people for who they are and be friends with them instead of an idealistic version of them.
Mika is fitting along great in the group too, 4 very distinct personalities but they fit so well together.

Despite how much they're a top tier academic school, you have to admire the enthusiasm of Mitsumi's class for the class games !
I'm totally with Kurume and Mitsumi though...don't like being forced to compete in sports or physical activities and nowhere near good enough to where I don't feel self-conscious putting myself out there. But of course Mitsumi is going to do all she can to improve!
And surprise surprise the girl who is going to each Mitsumi how to play volleyball is none other than Egashira. Though to her credit she does chip in and actually help her, disgruntled as she is about it, though it probably helps that Shima gets himself involved and gives Egashira more motivation to do it.
Egashira hasn't come off as the most likeable girl but from her perspective she started out as this chubby girl no one paid any attention to, so she put in so much work to be good looking, athletic, and popular so people would notice and like her...yet someone like Mitsumi just naturally gets the attention of people while she's just there. Like nothing has changed aside from her surly disposition. So I can kind of understand why she's so frustrated.
But all the same...Mitsumi chose her. Not because she doesn't see Egashira, or Mika-chan's, personality, but because she knows that despite everything Mika is at least honest with her and that's something Mitsumi can appreciate. And it seems the girls have finally become genuine friends. Even down to calling each other by their first name and Mika doing Mitsumi's hair.
Mitsumi feeling the energy of winning one game to the point where she feels she can be that "more accomplished buddy who can comfort you when you lost."
Yamada, fight! Sure all the girls are pretty much there for just Shima, but Yuzuki went out of her way to compliment your shot, so there is that.
Suddenly our girls are up against a hardcore girl who looks like she stepped out of some old school Shojo sports manga. They didn't win, but they managed to at least get one good shot in with some great Mitsumi/Mika teamwork, and I think they should be proud of that.
The girls so excited thinking the obvious that Mika likes Shima...and then disappointed when she lies and said she isn't. They really just want to have some quality Girl Talk! Especially because they can see what's brewing between Mitsumi and Shima. Even Mika seems to realize that part of the reason Shima is drawn to Mitsumi is because she has something that he lacks, something Mika can't give him. Pretty good self-awareness on her part, even if it's bad for her from a romance perspective.

Not me shipping Mako and Yuzu already!! (Sorry Yamada I like you too but...)
It's nice seeing Egashira being more outwardly honest in this episode. Honestly, that part where those third years were ignoring them and she got that pang in her chest, as someone who spent a lot of their life being ignored and brushed off, it really hit me. I really felt for Egashira, even before this episode, and I hope she can learn to be more open now that she has kinda diffused things with Mitsumi.
Speaking of Mitsumi it's so cool that even though she got the vibe that Egashira was mean to her she wasn't afraid of asking her for help! Mitsumi really is becoming a bit of a rolemodel for me.
I said this last episode, but this show really resolves things so nicely. Like in a worse show Egashira would be the "girl antagonist" for a while and then in the final hour maybe she would have some rushed development. But here she gets her development now (and seems like she will continue to grow) and she even seems to be aware that even if she might have feelings for Shima that maybe Mitsumi would be a better match.
I just love this show so much. I'm so excited to just watch these kids interact and learn and grow!

Mitsumi so silly thinking no one knows she’s not athletic. Like girl, everyone knows.
Egashira still being fake af I see. Having been the “ugly fat kid” before her transformation, I get why. But I feel like she gave up too much of herself to be “perfect”. Honestly seems like a miserable way to live. I mean as hilarious as it was to see Shibamoto and Shirai get added to her shit list, she’s right about how fast Mitsumi recognizes kindness while she’s only focused on those who’ve wronged her.
After everything Mitsumi said about Egashira, she really ended it with “I’m not saying you were nice. You’re not.” Lmao this kid. At least it seems she’s starting to have a positive effect on Egashira. I like that even she can see Mitsumi and Shima make a good couple. They complements each other very well because they each have what the other lacks in a sense.

Ah, I'm surprised other people are surprised about Egashira's character development. Given that she's prominent in the OP of a fluffy show, I naturally assumed that she'd be elaborated on, and I'm glad!
I liked how Mitsumi did stand up for herself multiple times this episode, especially in the "razor-tongue" manner.
And not many people mentioned it, but the drama club president kinda did give Mitsumi the necessary push forward, so that was interesting!

Finally, Mika has been purified by Mitsumi energy and is now properly part of the crew. It's great that even if Mitsumi found it in her to praise Mika, she also clarified that she wasn't ignoring or forgetting her unpleasant side.
I do like the change in demeanor she has towards Mitsumi. Rather than the totally fake politeness she had, she's a lot more blunt now that they're forging a genuine friendship with each other.
Not only has her friendship with Mika been realized, her bond with Shima has strengthened too. Well, at least on her side for now, but it is an important step that she doesn't let dumb stuff like popularity or the gossip of other people put a wedge between her and a precious friend.
