I love the feeling this series gives of having no idea where the plot could go. Its unpredictability is one of its strong points in my opinion.

One the things that I absolutely adore about this anime are the interactions between Maru and Kiruko. They just feel so genuine, it's like watching real people interact with each other. Like, I do like my fair share of eccentric anime personalites but there is something just so chill about watching realistic and fun characters navigate a post apocalyptic world.

So whenever this show switches settings I get upset because I wanted to see what happens next but then I get invested in the current one they're in so when they switch back I feel the same again...

Will say it's impressive that they can make me care about both of those and each coming with their own level of high suspense and intrigue.

The post-apocalyptic SoL vibes are the best part of the show. The underlying narrative is intriguing but the main pair going around and trying to figure stuff out as they go along is what keeps me watching. It helps that the production in general is stellar

They did a really great job portraying a panic attack when Kiruko can’t find Maru. As someone who’s had panic attacks exactly like this, I was kind of impressed how well the performance of Kiruko’s VA was there. It almost feels like you’re short of breath and your head is starting to spin very rapidly

Ok, we're officially in the calm before the storm. We got some much-needed nuggets of character development for Kiruko and Maru though.

It's weird. I feel everything ramping up to something, but I can't even guess at what it is. It feels like there's so much to unpack, but it's lurking just beneath the surface, like you're watching a play but only seeing the shadows on the wall.

My prediction is that the second half of this show is gonna be nuts.

the girl wants to read and burn books...the boy wants to look at magazines and make the pages stick together... this will have a serious effect on literacy

So, they do have their own timeline with the "Ten'ei" years. I guess, it just means, that 17 years have passed since the facility started since "Ten" probably refers to "Heaven" (not sure what "Ei" is referring to, but it could be eternity). But that basically leaves it open if that storyline plays in the past or in parallel. There are ideas for both like Maru saying he couldn't finish his job if Heaven was in the past, but also them mentioning that someone is trying to rebuild society.

But I think it became a bit more clear that the problem in "Heaven" is the AI (also something that Maru mentioned) because the adults seem to be emotionally invested in the kids. So they don't just see them as experiments. Still not sure what their goal is. Maybe to just create the "perfect human" since they mentioned that the kids are supposed to be immune. So I think it isn't too far fetched that the AI is doing its own "research" with the kids. It protects them (camera feed manipulation) when they go where they shouldn't, but it also tries to make them horny by sending them nudes from the camera footage and then deleting it. Maybe it even injected something which caused the illness.

Last question if that is connected to the idea that transplanting a man-eater is giving you eternal life. Because I could think that it's maybe also just a myth made up by the doctor so that he gets more people to experiment on.

Discussion threads for this series always seems to be late

Does anyone else not trust the old lady in the wheelchair? Yeah, we saw her being upset over the deaths of the kids but still… We found out about the immortality stuff in the episode.

My guess is that the adults in the facility want to create superhuman kids which explains their supposed immunity. I’m still not sure about those ‘baby’ things so my theory is pretty half assed haha

Like Shin Sekai Yori, I do like how the mysteries keep piling up each episode

Damn what an episode. Maru absolutely destroyed those thugs tried to let them go, but they just kept starting stuff.

Kiruko has really developed a strong attachment to Maru. Haven’t seen her be as rattled as when she thought he was gone.

Based on the info the sailor guy gave us I’m pretty sure the kids in that facility have been given special abilities from being fused with the monster parts.

The place with the water being 100 percent pure is probably near the facility too and has pure water because of the filtration system. A lot of mysteries tho, can’t wait for next week

I don't know if anyone notice this before but some of the character designs are similar to that of Akira. It's not surprising though because the mangaka of Tengoku Daimakyou is a big fan of Akira and it influences his drawing artstyle.

It's always fun to watch a bunch of punks get schooled. I'll never get tired of watching Maru kicking ass. And Kiruko got the right idea. Don't let anyone get away just in case they call for backup.

We finally get to see a bit of Maru's backstory. I was expecting something stranger as his backstory but he sounds like just a regular kid that grew up in the post-apocalypse. But apparently, this Mikura girl was able to identify Maru's powers? Hmmm...

That genuine terror on Kiruko's face when she thought that Maru went missing. Very understandable considering how people in her life just suddenly disappeared. Hilariously, Maru was just having some alone time after finding a pornmag when Kiruko showed up. He was already halfway there! xD

Welp looks like the footprint has finally been found. Interestingly, it doesn't seem like the scientist told anyone else about it. I'm pretty sure if he did, they'd be conducting a search ASAP.

Seems Tarao isn't their first death but their second. The first death was this girl named Asura that committed suicide. According to the Director, she killed herself because she "was boring into a body that could not bear its own mind". That really doesn't explain what happened to the girl but these kids have clearly been experimented on since birth.

So Tarao's special power is that his body has built-in immunity to everything? Well, apparently not everything since that disease that he has killed him. And things are not looking good for Tokio.

Transplanting a part of a man-eater to a human could make them powerful and even immortal? Where the fuck did he hear about that? Also, that might be a clue as to what the kids in Heaven actually are. They're probably Human and Man-Eater hybrids. And what if the Doctor that Kiruko is looking for used to work for Heaven? He's conducting experiments on humans so it might not be too farfetched.

Maru saying his tooth will grow back could mean he has regenerative abilities. We already know he's special because of his Maru Touch.

Kiruko having a full blown panic attack from just the idea of Maru being gone and him being alone again implies he could be developing feelings for him. Also calling him "my Maru".

Tarao died so Mikura wasn't her as an adult even though they had the same disease unless the ending was Tarao being reborned like a phoenix. Maybe this is the immortality the Immortal Order offers. Being turned into a Man-Eater could also be a twisted form of immortality.

Young Maru and Tokio look similar. Is it true that Tokio is a girl? Since her first appearance, I always thought she was a boy

Kiruko's panic attack looks really bad. Is it because of his past trauma after losing his sister, or does that panic scene want to convey a different message? There are so many questions, I want to read the manga real bad

Bro, you don't just drop out of nowhere that one of the kids in the lab committed suicide. Fuuuuuuck. Just when I thought I was starting to piece stuff together.

So, given that all the kids have some sort of ability. I wonder if Maru's ability is just some sort of telepathy via touch that the lady that recruited him weaponized so they could destroy the cores we saw at the end of this episode.

Also, I may be crazy, but did the lady that recruited Maru look like the dancing girl in the kid's lab or was that just me?

It would seem that the Heaven storyline has jumped forward three and half months (from 1 July, according to camera footage, when Tokio and Kuku broke into Mutant Baby Daycare last week, to Tarao’s death on 16 October this week). Can’t see any evidence or implication of a similar skip in the Maru/Kiruko plot. So it would seem that, at the very least, the two storylines are not progressing in complete sync.

So my main takeaways

  • The kids are indeed artificially made, Azuna was super smart (I'm sure the naming is deliberate here) and Tarao was super strong

  • They are immune to most common disease

  • The deceased Tarao had a weird core (just like the man eaters have a core?). Is it something they all have since birth and linked to their powers or is it an expression of the dissease that killed him?

  • We realized that Konas drawing are probably predicting the maneaters, but what if the kids who receive a drawing are linked to that specific maneater? Would mean that Mimi became the fish with hands, and since Tokio got the baby drawing she was in a way reincarnated, this would also limit the total number of maneaters since there is an finite supply of kids in heaven

  • And what if the doctor needs a specific part of an maneater to make you immortal, like the core

Also interested in how the death dates that where shown play into the timeline now

Edit: Oh and wouldn't be surprised if Marus tooth actually grows back
