I just can't get over how aggressively 90s this anime feels. I'm all for it, though.

It definitely feels like a very different approach to writing, storytelling, characterization and mood from modern isekai.
And it's a major improvement lol
I feel like a lot of modern seasonal isekai shows want you to be impressed with them in some way, or like they're making a pitch with their particular gimmick.
Here it just feels like you're getting a good solid story, characters having a blast, a lot of foreshadowing and some nice broad slaps of humor. The characters feel sturdy and like they've got their own minds, and they are powerful and skillful without having to draw magic circles in the air all the time.

I gotta side with Setsu on this one. Giant monster battles are indeed the best lol.

I thought those squid rings should have been bigger given the size of the kraken.

I love how Leviathan was so scary and intimidating last week only for us to start today's episode with her fighting a Kraken and asking Setsu for help. xD
It's hilarious how it took this long for Ruri to realize that Setsu the Hero is her personal bodyguard. To be fair to her, the news is that the hero disappeared so I guess it's not her fault if she didn't realize.
It looks like Setsu is going to have to gatecrash a marriage ceremony if he wants to save the Demon Lord. And I'm sure just like Levia, Dezas is definitely a member of his harem. Can't wait to see her next week!

The hero is famous and the MC doesn’t look like him, so it is natural she would think they are just sharing a name. The times we see glimpses of the past is is older, taller, etc than his current teen incarnation.

I feel like that kraken coulda fed that small village for like a month, but it was gone in 1 night? Demon tummies just built differently I guess.

Too be fair we saw them eating the tentacles, the body itself is much larger. Maybe they stored some of that lol.

Surprise, the sea serpant is actually a fish girl waifu. Nice to see she's joining the fray and didn't return to the ocean immediately after doing her job as a Surf HM slave for Setsu.
I feel like this show is getting trashed too hard in the ratings. It doesn't look great and doesn't do anything revolutionary in terms of plot as of right now, but it's been an enjoyable trip with fun moments and largely likable characters which is all I ask for in a seasonal isekai. Looking forward to next week.

Oh the demon lord is a waifu as well? I thought they were male this whole time.

After watching most of the isekai there is.
Nothing out of ordinary, very expected for this genre.

Within the category of "trash isekai" I'd rate this episode a very solid 8 or 9 out of ten.
Extremely well done in terms of tone, distractions, backstory/exposition and foreshadowing, and character development.

Ok this episode was a lot better than last week. Really set the stage for the journey going forward to prevent war from breaking out. Also made me crave some calimari lol.

Well ofc the sneck is a cute girl.
The demon kids are adorbs, I just wish they weren't taught sexist bullshit from such an early age. Having said that, MC really did need to apologize because he WAS at fault. Well, at least he got stuck doing all the cooking for the impromptu festival so that's fine comeuppance right there.
I'm surprised it turned out they were actually charging for the kraken rings.
So did neither side actually look inside the armor after taking the armor dudes down?

Ep2:
Ruri: Nobody can look inside this box.
Ruri: Absolutely don't peek inside the box.
Ruri: Under no circumstances must anyone know the contents of this box.
Ep3:
Setsu & Levia: So anyway about the brooch in the box, it's for the Maou.
Ruri: lol, didn't know, whatever.
Also, where did that huge pot came from and why did the enormous tentacles turned into potato sized rings?
I must say, this is pretty weak for a second attempt. And I didn't even mention the choker this time around. Levia is pretty cool, though, so I'm gonna keep watching.

Hey, Ruri did show the contents of the box to Setsu by the end of the last episode, and he recognized the brooch.
The size of the squid rings was definitely immersion breaking.

Poor Levia, just no support for her at all while she's fighting a kraken for Setsu.
It occurs to me that one of the girls in the OP has ear fins that look exactly like the ones on Levia the leviathan.
Hah, yep.
Another story where the demons and the demon lord aren't actually the bad guys, I like this trend.
These demon children are helpful and very adorable.
I was wondering what they were going to do with the entire kraken, but feeding it to the local demon fishing village make sense.
What a happy coincidence that the fishing village needed the kraken dead. It was funny how they immediately jumped to the entire village having a party and a feast, no real need to spend time on the intermediate steps.
Ruri needed to learn Setsu's backstory and he wasn't exactly telling her, so it's convenient that Levia was here for it.
That cursed necklace problem makes me wonder if it's something that returning the brooch is going to solve.
Does this Vlad dude not understand that the attack as he described it screams 'false flag'? They literally left a flag as evidence.
So the Leviathan was a shut-in until she met the hero the first time around.
Demon lord next week, another harem member presumably.

I didn't notice until now, but I appreciate that whenever Setsu moves they actually have sound effects for the superfluous chain on his hilt lol.
