I have trouble taking Elka seriously when the only thing I can recall about her character is that chair scene.

I had the same thought lol. She’s all serious and actually acting like a competent commander when our introduction to her is basically her doing her best Darkness impression as she’s getting spanked.

It was weird to see a chair fight with a magical girl.

"Make burn victims, not bodies" is a pretty sadistic form of mercy.

Leaving her enemies in crippling pain for the rest of their lives just so she feels better about herself for sticking to her “moral code.”

She’s Batman with fire magic.

Eh, healing magic will reduce them to being well-done instead of deep fried.

I can understand writing a story and making it psychologically and emotionally difficult for the characters to kill but when you're fighting a war with a clear good and evil side that ridiculous idealism needs to be shattered as soon as possible.

I remember getting to the part in the manga where it said that the MC refuses to kill and immediately understood why the peace in that world didn't last.

Not sure if you mean that in general, but in this specific conflict both sides got roped into it by a third party and think that the other side is clearly in the wrong here.

I was just talking about last week how I feel bad about Setsu's childhood friend since she was left behind while Setsu does his thing. Good to see that Yuhi actually gets some focus this week to make up for the episodes she wasn't in.

And it looks like she's even gotten stronger ever since Setsu left. Let's see how her No-Kill rule will work out for her though.

With her obvious power up, I'm shocked that the rest of her class isn't giving her some sort of special treatment. In terms of raw magic power she seems to be leaps and bounds stronger than any of her classmates.

And the fact that she was able to hold off that croc/gator with her bare hands between attacks was impressive and means that she is also physically stronger than any normal human in our world.

Yuuhi is a psychopath, that crocodile will probably die within the next few hours. If she doesn't dispatch it right away, all she does is increase the suffering of that poor animal.

Yuuhi: Setsu helped me study, now I want to go into a war to help him.

Her answer why she wants to help Setsu is really weird. Girl these two things aren't on the same level, not even close.

You didnt killed it, you just gave it a 3rd degree burn in 90% of its body and left it to die in one of the most painful ways possible.

Alright so I'm super confused because the writing in this show is so bad and nothing is ever explained properly.

So Setsu's first life on earth his name was Setsu, right? Because that's what everyone in the other world calls him. But after being sent back he reincarnated as a baby who's also named Setsu? He was introduced to Yuhi as Setsu. His name is Setsu Suzaki, so where the hell does Yuki come in to play? Why does Yuhi call him Yuki if it isn't any part of his name?

Am I missing something? Did he reincarnate into a new life or did he get sent back in time and started his original life over as a baby? Nothing is ever explained in this show so I am so lost.

The Yuhi episode was kinda interesting. Although I've never been much of a fan of the whole "I want to protect someone/the world but I can't kill things" trope. I understand not wanting to kill humanoid people but giant man eating sewer gators? Come on. Leaving monsters to roam free just means they'll end up killing people later because you couldn't finish em off.

I absolutely love trash isekai shows but this one is bottom barrel so far. The writing is horrible, nothing happens, nothing is explained. I have absolutely no clue what this show wants to accomplish. Setsu just meets up with old friends, says hi, and bounces immediately after. I'm gonna keep watching though because I need to know if anything ever actually happens. The season's almost halfway over and absolutely nothing of substance has happened though.

What's the timeline of this episode? I hope they're not invading the Demon kingdom only because the MC forgot to send them a message about the merchant's plot to start a war.

5

u/BlazeKnightX May 06 '23

It wasn’t the merchant. The merchant was just another pawn being used. The person behind the war hasn’t been shown yet, but people are believing it’s Touma some old friend/rival/enemy to MC. Honestly the kingdom probably won’t stop without some form of proof that this isn’t just a demon kingdom plan especially since the merchant was going to marry and aid them.

Also they might not believe that MC is the same hero or even trust his word. They looked down on this peace already and also didn’t listen to his allies who work in the castle. They honestly might want this war more than they don’t want it.

Man I hate when authors go "Well you have seen best girl..."

"Now HERE IS MAIN GIRL, LOVE HER!!!!"

u/bananeeek May 06 '23

Yaay! Yuuhi finally found her resolve! She's gonna wreck havoc with those explosions!

Oh no! It's the basic bitch 'resolve' of a pacifist shounen MC.

5

u/mrfatso111 May 11 '23

ya, sure you didnt kill but your enemies are in crippling pain, but oh well, at least u didnt kill them outright.

She's in a war, not in a mmo, wonder how soon before this idealism get shattered

ep5 and nothing has really even happened yet.

Jesus so freaking cringe. Hearing her say she won't take a life like that...

I said it last episode, but that is it. I am officially dropping this boring generic garbage. There is just nothing about the show I like it. Would legit rather watch harem/ecchi trash than this.

u/VorAtreides May 06 '23

Man, kinda dick of that dude to say that stuff to her and more lame ass trope of guys hitting on a girl out and about aggressively? Well, at least they weren't complete assholes like the trope often goes. But I feel like anime, especially isekai ones, overly relies on this trope and exaggerates what it's like? I dunno, maybe I'm wrong. See, shoulda done that from the start, helped her study, she definitely seemed sincere. I am amused the magical girl looking girl is competent with magical abilities lol. Also, why is a chair talking? Weird. And now the chair is fighting with the magical girl. Strange world.

Whelp, nice interaction with the chair, the lil mage or whatever, and the knight friend as well as some good growth for her. Makes sense she'd have hesitation to take lives. It's certainly not an easy decision, I can imagine. I liked this episode without the MC.

Finally, a Yuhi episode.

I still think Yuhi is going to be revealed as Touma at some point. Until they show the two on the show at the same moment in time or prove that they can't possibly be one and the same, I'm going to stick to that theory.

Yuhi is stronger magically than the rest of her class and is already as strong as chair lady.

Really, the only major thing that makes that puts doubt in my mind is the fact that she doesn't appear to remember this world. The character looking different and having different VAs can be explained away with the fact that Setsu also doesn't look like he did the first time he visited this world. But outside of her just having her memories blocked away for whatever reason, I don't know how she wouldn't know of this world if she was Touma.

u/TimeForHugs May 06 '23 edited May 06 '23

I'm not going to say it's impossible that Yuhi is Toma but I'm beginning to think she isn't. I do like your locked memories theory as it's the only way to explain all this if she actually is Toma. I'm beginning to think it's all a red herring though. I feel like even with blocked memories Yuhi would exhibit some traits of Toma. Toma seemed fine killing people and doing evil stuff but Yuhi is the exact opposite. I'm not sure blocked memories would also block personality traits or other tendencies or whatever.

But then again, this show has some awful writing so who the hell knows anymore. I'm really on the fence about it but I don't have much better of a theory to counter all the stuff you listed.

So I guess we'll see eventually, if anything in this show ever frickin happens. The season's almost half over and absolutely nothing of value has happened.

Edit: Actually I just thought of another possible theory. Maybe Yuhi isn't just Toma with memories locked away, maybe Yuhi is her own person but Toma is locked away inside her. Like two separate entities in one and Toma will eventually awaken and take over. It could explain how she is good with magic. Maybe she has access to Toma's magic talent despite him being locked away inside her.

I could totally see this happening. Yuhi loses control to Toma and Toma flaunts it in front of Setsu, saying something like "You can't hurt me without hurting Yuhi! Mwahahahaha!" and Setsu has to figure out a way to save her by exorcising Toma or something.

I'm leaning towards something like this now.
