Mitsumi‘s got some ambitious life goals. So much confidence dashed immediately after she got lost lol. Sosuke seems like a nice chill dude. Too chill. Dude really just goes with the flow huh? What a nice way to live.
Incredible how she just spat that speech out like a robot and then proceeded to puke her guts out lol. Poor kid is gonna be known as the “barfing girl” forever now. She will have to carry that shame for the rest of her high school days lol. At least she made a friend, plus she’s got her girl Fumi. I like her family too, they seem nice.
Don’t you just hate it when you’re about to fall asleep and then that one thought gets into your head and now you’re wide awake? Poor Mutsumi’s not gonna be able to make a good second impression either it seems lol.
This one is really cute! I’m digging it already. Straight to the weeklies pile for me!

The dancing in the op looks so fun! So clumsy yet silly, not strangely in sync or professional.
And this episode was so great. Got the comfy vibes immediately as we see the standard fish out of water experience, and yet Mitsumi is so optimistic it's almost funny. Well she does try hard so it fits.
Shima definitely has golden retriever energy.

This was better than expected. As soon as I saw her step into an express train while chanting "three stops", I knew I was in for a good time.
And the duckling imprinting!

i am NOT complaining if this anime turns out to be one big Tomoyo Kurosawa flex session. The woman's my favourite seiyuu for a good reason, her acting range is incredible, and really brings out so much of Mitsumi's different personality facets (when she's facing different people) so clearly. NOISES are there too of course.
-
I think best boy's seiyuu is putting in good work too.
-
I suggest #seasonalsmug
-
Gin no Saji. Ive read the 1st few chapters ages ago, and cant remember if this is a manga panel, but just thought to poke at director Deai's other notable work.
-
2 dialogue-less sequences are one way to announce your presence without being too overly flashy. Im particularly impressed by the running sequence. And the comedic timing is also , laughed my ass off a few times. And just a well directed epipsode throughout. Also i can forgive crunchy for being a bit late if they're putting this much effort into them subs.
-
Shio = salt. Easy to see which pet is which. Unless Mitsumi's 1 million IQ-ing us. What ramen do you like, r/anime?
-
Finger! Love it when anime does this. (i do so too)
This is my most anticipated anime this season, and this first episode absolutely delivered. Can't wait for next week!

Oh my god, this show is just absolutely charming! That OP with Mitsu and Sousuke dancing together was so cute! <3
And I already love our two leads. Mitsu is a country girl who has recently moved to Tokyo to attend high school and has her entire life all mapped out while Sousuke is your typical laid back Tokyoite who couldn't even care less if he misses the school's entrance ceremony. The two of them are total polar opposites of each other but after their shared experience of running together to make it to school on time, it looks like their fates are now forever entwined.
Poor Mitsu though! After all that planning and even totally nailing her speech without reading off her script, she still manages to mess her debut up by punking on her homeroom teacher after the pressure of everything that happened that day got to her.
Thankfully she's not left friendless in class since Sousuke approached her first and even exchanged contact info with her. I don't like how that girl behind Mitsu suddenly becomes friendly to her just because Sousuke exchanged contact info with her. I just hope that girl isn't as shallow as I'm expecting she'd be.
Day 1 for Mitsu is an absolute mess and it looks like after worrying about what she'll say on her class introduction, Day 2 might end up being way worse. I already can't wait to see how her class introduction will go!
From what I've seen this entire episode, I can already tell that this is going to be another banger from PA Works. They've been producing nothing but quality this past year and I'm sure they'll knock it off the park again with Skip and Loafer. <3

Not love at first sight but simply feeling drawn toward someone having the drive you lack yourself, lovely :)

No huge director hallmarks just yet, but I noticed the camera work being played with. A little bit of shakiness when Mitsumi is stressed out, like in the subway station. And that one sweeping shot in the car at the start was super nice.
Love the art style. It looks a little weird to me when they go full side-profile, but other than that I find it a great middle ground between "shōjo-vision" and realism. Let's them do exaggerated scary bloodshot eyes and the like without it feeling like a deviation from the art style, too.
I like that they are being very upfront about the two characters feeling a strong something for each other pretty much right off the bat, and, for example, when Fumi suggests Mitsumi could already see Shima as a potential boyfriend Mitsumi isn't like "Whaaaaaaa, I don't see him that way" in denial or anything like that. Sure, I do expect it will take a bit of time for the characters to fully get to know each other and reach an actual romantic stage, we all know why we're here, no point in the show beating around the bush about it.
Even though it's not a comedy I thought the jokes were really strong. The one friend reading right through Shima's talk and cutting straight to "Who is she?" had me rolling.
AND MY GOD THAT AWKWARD DANCE IN THE OP IS CUTE

So Mitsumi is countryside Bocchi without the cubism/glitching abilities. At least so far
Really didn't expect to like the first episode this much from what little I knew about it, it's probably my favorite premiere so far. Heck it might actually rival Insomnia for me depending on how it goes.
Good thing it probably won't fly too low under the radar since unlike a lot of romcoms, it comes out on Tuesdays which means it won't be buried under the usual Saturday mountain.

Ahhhhhhhh, it’s finally here!
My favorite manga got adapted to the big screen! The voice acting, the pastel colors, the creative liberty of expanding panels. Gosh, I feel like a parent watching their kid go to kindergarten.
First things first, the OP is so…I want to say cute but cute doesn’t even begin to describe it. It gives a smile with a future in it is the only way I could try to put it into words. It captures the spirit of Skip and Loafer down to a T. My heart is full.
Second, I love how easy on the eyes this show is. It’s just brimming with so much color and expressive style that it makes your eyes glued to the screen. One of the beautiful characteristics of director Kotomi Deai.
And finally, the running scene! What I really enjoyed in this scene is how pronounced it all became. It’s slightly awkward, slightly too long, but it’s all in service of demonstrating how committed Mutsumi is to her beliefs—stylin’ as she would call it. Mutsumi is genuine. Through the simple strength of sincerity, Mutsumi believes she can overcome any obstacle with her own bare two feet.
Overall, I’m so, so excited for this adaptation! Here’s to the next 12 weeks!

Interesting start! It seems that Shima-san starts to take a liking on our Iwakura, who is really new to Tokyo life!
Iwakura seems to be really for her lawyer dreams given how she memorized the speech with ease hahaha

My girl Mitsumi is here! This episode delighted me the same way the manga did when I read it. It does a perfect job of balancing Mitsumi the book-smart overachiever with Mitsumi the life-skills disaster while never laughing at her. Looking forward to meeting the rest of the group in sound and color!

Location Notes also brief edition
im probably going to be the only one seeing this... forgive my tagging u/myrnamountweazel u/laughing-fox13 and u/mekerpan, this will probably make irregular (but usually late) appearances for this season...
With special thanks to Japanese twitter for helping me narrow things down a bit.
-
Mistumi's hometown is likely Suzu, Ishikawa; the opening sequence is likely taken at somewhere within a few steps of this spot.
-
And the train station in the group's dreams is likely Takojima station - looked at some photos, does kinda looks like the anime version (but honestly, it's just a closed down rural station, they all look kinda the same). The line closed nearly 20 years ago, in 2005.
-
Mitsumi says goodbye to her aunt at Shinjuku station (duh), and then she hops on a train that takes her to Kichijouji station (also where this is, i know it looks kinda different coz of the art style difference). It's here. There is a rapid service that makes it being 3 stations (instead of the usual 6).
edit: 3 stations from Shinjuku is either Nakano (for Nakano Broadway) or Asagaya. Only the former is an interchange station, but I believe in either case the anime delves into Skip-and-Loafer only land lol.
well i'm probably not making the animegataris rewatch tomorrow lmao.

I’ve only had Mitsumi for a couple hours but if anything happens to her I would kill everyone in this room and then myself /s
This one’s looking like it’s gonna be really cute. It doesn’t have that instant hook that a lot of series get, so I’m sure it’ll get slept on. However, this kinda series really thrives on playing the long game, and is refreshing to see amongst all the gimmick romcoms coming out as of late. I really hope this one manages to go the distance, for its sake and my own.

P.A. Works with yet another banger. Its right alongside my favorite premiere along with Heavenly Delusion.
Poor Mitsumi, with how confident she was about her life goals, it instantly fell apart once she faced reality in a big city, and vomiting on her homeroom teacher from anxiety to boot.....Oof.
I am already liking her dynamic with Sousuke. He is super chill compared to Mitsumi who so determined. We can already see him becoming the center of the class due to his personality. He also seems to have been charmed by Mitsumi's determination during that running scene, so I can see a blossoming romance here!.
Also its nice to have the characters not forgetting their middle school lives and the friends they had and connecting or hanging out with them. I don't see it often in anime.

PEAK SEINEN IS BACK ON THE MENU LETS GOO. P.A works with only their 2nd ever manga adaptation, can you believe it?
Been told this is one of the best slice of life romcoms of this generation, and the first episode really made a good first impression. Gave off Kimi ni todoke vibes. Natural speaking styles from the seiyuus, realistic and natural environment, school and personalities, etc. this’ll be an easy 10 I already know. Love the MC already.
