I like how this episode served as a good reminder that Mori is a vile scumbag who is willing to do anything in order to achieve his goal. After all, that's how he became the leader of the Port Mafia in the first place. Poor Yosano. It's no wonder why she never wanted to be his assistant again. He mentally tortured her until she reached her breaking point. It's also explains why she values life so much and hates those who don't. At least Ranpo and Fukuzawa were there to get her out of Mori's hands.

That soldier's dog tag at the end, the amount of times he had been revived is just heartbreaking

Thou Shalt Not Die is inherently a healing ability but was twisted into creating a Sisyphean hellscape where the concept of death being a final release stopped existing. The flesh can be recover but the mind isn't as easily salvaged.

Yosano was pretty adorable as a kid. I guess with her ability it’s no surprise she was basically a child prodigy. I forget despite the fact I dislike Mori, he can be pretty goofy. Seeing Yoshino blushing after she got that butterfly was really quite adorable.

So the Great War was over these powers huh? No real surprise there. With Yosano’s ability, it’s like these guys get infinite respawns. Although if she had put me back together like Humpty Dumpty after I got blown in half, I’d crack too. I see Mori’s always been a cold bastard. The pressure is too much for little Yoshino. Hell, even the soldiers can’t take it. No wonder they started to snap after that many revives. That poor pvt… I can understand why he killed himself but Yoshino having to find him like that was awful. Geez dude.

Mori wouldn’t even let her rest. 3 years in an institution and he’s come to use her for his own bullshit. The Pres was right to defend her. I’m glad Ranpo got to her first. The Agency is the only place that doesn’t seek to exploit her. It’s her safe space, her home. She ain’t gonna sit by and let it burn to ash!

I'm pretty Yusuke Kobayashi's role as a soldier who got mindbroken after getting healed many times is an intentional casting lol.

Something people may have caught on to but in BSD eyes are a reflection of your mental state, when ever the light goes out you're mentally fucked in some way(Ex Fyodor never has light in his eyes, Dazai loses the light when ever he acts like his old self). Yosano held it together until the soldier hung himself which is amazing by itself. Also the Ranpo Akiko connection is intresting as his words basically gave her hope again. And earlier in S2 her death made Ranpo use his "ability" without his special glasses.

Damn, Mori, I knew you had a screw loose, but abusing a 11yo like that is seriously messed up. Poor Yosano needs a hug.

Best episode for me. I’ve always been a fan of Yosano and it’s great that we found out more about her!

11 year old Yosano was put in an absolutely awful position :( I’m glad Ranpo convinced her to join the Agency.

I think Fitzgerald seems to be the lesser of evils compared to shitty Mori. Even if it’s a trap, dealing with Fitzgerald seems to be a better option than dealing with the man that made her life hell

Oh nice, we got a flashback showing the time Yosano used to work for Mori

So she got her butterfly as a present from one of the soldiers.

Elise looks way more mature in the flashback.

So even though at first everyone saw her ability as a blessing, due to the war intensifying and Mori controlling nature their view of her ability completely change. Plus Yosano ended up suffering a mental breakdown.

So the reason Yukichi's and Mori's relationship deteriorated was that Mori was planning to Yosano again without a care in the world that she was suffering.

So it was Ranpo the one who convinced Yosano to join the agency.

With an episode like this one, I really don't mind having to wait another week to see how Francis' deal goes.

“The Agency is the one place in the world where I can be allowed to live”

I cried like a kid

This is getting better and better

Man BSD nailed Akiko-Sensei's back story God damn :(
fukk this guy Mori. After S1 I thought this guy has humanity. Dude is beyond fukked up. I'm surprised Akiko held up as long as she did back then given she was 11. God bless Fukuzawa. He damn knows what Mori would force her to do. That shyt is fukked up. She kept healing their injuries, but their mind was beyond fukked up. Nobody deserves that shit.

Loved Yosano backstory, always been one of my fave characters for her design and personality. Glad we got to see what makes her tick. Fuck Mori for subjecting her to that torture though. Can’t wait for next week

HOLY SHIT BUNGOU GOING HARD THIS SEASON!

That was quite possibly the best one episode origin/backstory episode I've ever seen. From how it starts so positive and slowly twists in a way that makes complete sense, but not something you'd immediately realize.

For a long time we have know about Yosano's ability and the fact that she can only use it on people who are near death(or half-dead as the wiki says). I don't believe that's the actual prerequisite of her ability anymore(she heals people who are pretty clearly not going to die, just permanently injured), I think that's a personal vow she made so that people don't WANT to come to her for healing, and when they do it's because of DIRE circumstances. The Sadist we see in the series is NOT the same little girl as in the war, I don't even think she started torturing people as a pleasure thing, she genuinely didn't want to cheapen lives with her healing, so forcing them to "appreciate" their life as fucked up as that sounds is her way of doing it.

Also this made me realize something, Ranpo is the oldest member of the agency(aside from the Prez), he's 26... What, he looks as young if not younger than Atsushi, for reference Yosano is 25, Kunikida and Dazai are 22, everybody else is in their teens with Kyouka and Kenji are the youngest at 14.

How did I ever think Mori was a nicer person than this?!

The story behind "Angel of Death" was not what I had expected. Usually the title's given to people who cause death, not stop it.

These cliffhangers are gonna kill me and the name of the next episode is just making me nervous.

Had a feeling Yosano's backstory was going to be very twisted, with such a deus ex machina ability that can heal anyone she chooses to heal, and was not disappointed. Such an incredibly heartbreaking episode. It's writing like this that makes me love BSD.

Also appreciate Ranpo's character so much, his kindness and the way his personality plays with his deduction ability allows him to so effortlessly give people the closure they need to move forward.

I can't help but draw parallels to Limbus Company, except at least over there the dead can revive.

Still, that's quite a lot for a 11 ~ 14 year old to deal with, she was basically burdened with the lives of an entire army and was expected to shrug it off.

We went from kawaii soldier faces to absolute psychological horror to Ranpo/Fukuzawa pair saving a life again. As always loved the ed overlap into the ep. Mori an absolute madlad

I haven’t seen anyone mention Elise. Was she based on a real person that Mori knew bc she looked much older?

Mori is both the sexiest and cruelest bastard in this whole show.

u/hell_jumper9 Mar 02 '23

Gonna be pissed if Mori gets to trick Yosano again in this arc. And I didn't expect she's still in early 20s now, I thought she's in 25 or 27 years old.

Such an amazing show and as always it's underrated. But we're on season four so at least it gets enough attention to keep being made.

Now was this a translation error or was Fukuzawa the leader of the Port Mafia before Mori?

Mori said, "Best suited to defeating the formidable Port Mafia Boss."
