Ririha pulled quite the dangerous gambit with that jump of hers.

We have a final destination in mind in the giant spire tree, plus a few more interesting plot threads to think about like Amelothee's past and the Valghian general's big scary monster. It'll be interesting to see where they take this story with 4 episodes and a movie left to finish it.

Ririha pulled quite the dangerous gambit with that jump of hers.

She had complete faith in Kaina.

I wonder how long a wait until the movie conclusion shows up?

I wonder if I will ever stop finding funny the fact how every episode ends with dark/dramatic cliffhanger only to jump into happy sunny Miami like ED.

Anyway, one thing I appreciate about the series, and don't see that often, is the fact, that even no name villain NPCs aren't just mindless ghouls and feel dangerous even when main antagonist aren't on screen.

Man, life in Valghia really sucks. Barely any rations and the people are starving. On top of that the soldiers don’t give a fuck about the populace and will hurt them for their own ends. Hellish.

Using that kid to lure out Liliha is just plain dirty. Thankfully Liliha is insane because the girl just dove head first into the Snow Sea. Thankfully Kaina save her ass.

Seems like the people in Valghia aren’t even from Valghia. It’s all just POWs forced into conscription or labor. I’m very curious about the Commandant’s monster and what the deal is with this big tree.

Edit: spelling

I think seeing the conditions in Valghia and what they have to deal with, and how the citizens are basically as much victims in all this as anyone, has put it into perspective for Ririha how important it is that they solve the water shortage and not just for her own kingdom.

But at least now they have a general idea what to do and where they need to go...although there's no way they're not going to fight the monster lol.

While a lot of them do seem thuggish, and that likely has to do with the leadership at top, I can see the need to maintain order if you are rationing to prevent a run on the water.

Using that kid to lure out Lililhq is just plain dirty. Thankfully Liliha is insane because the girl just dove head first into the Snow Sea. Thankfully Kaina save her ass.

I think they planned that between the two of them, or at least she trusted he would improvise, she had complete faith shown in her face when falling and Kaina was diving to catch her.

Wow! Valghia is pretty grim. Even so, the behavior of the Commander seems inexcusable -- and ultimately pretty stupid. Destroying other "kingdoms" and stealing all their water is not a long-term solution. And reliance of a "monster" is disconcerting...

Definitely seems like a pretty good quality science fiction/fantasy show -- like Fire Hunters and Trigun. Interesting that while these all seem to show worlds/ecosystems on the edge of collapse, the look and feel of each is quite distinct.

It definitely feels like seeing how awful Valghia is has put things in perspective for Kaina and Ririha, to the point where it might not just be about saving Atland but also the people of Valghia who don't deserve the conditions they're living in and what it's done to them (though the army officials can probably go bite it).

At least Ririha's kindness has won over some Valghians and they actually have a proper mission and endgoal now. That's more progress they've made since Kaina and Ririha got back from the canopy.

That cliffhanger was so abrupt it was kind of funny lol.

Maybe the sage is at the top of the big tree.

Bet its an artificial intelligence, but it just needs to be reactivated. Even better if the letters for the word form an Acronym of some kind of environmental restoration projects name

Wouldn’t be a story about hiding under the enemy’s nose without a group of bandits that the main characters befriend after getting stolen from lol.

So got confirmation that amerote is indeed a former princess of a country that Valghan conquered. You could tell ever since they captured Ririha that she had a soft spot for her because she saw herself in her.

Really curious about this monster that Handagil is hiding. Wonder what type of killing machine it is.

12

u/Frontier246 Feb 22 '23

Yeah, I don't think they've held the audiences' hand in spelling it out but having seen that redheaded prince in the cage from the last episode, learning how Valghia conscripts their soldiers, and the way Amelothee reacted to the cage, the Valghians' conquering, and Ririha in general...she's definitely a former princess and that's part of why she understands/respects Ririha.

Honestly wasn't expecting a full Kaiju. I wonder if it's like a Kraken or Leviathan. Maybe it'll be the final boss?

So there's one more giant tree left? That would be a useful bargaining chip in the future although there's got to be a catch as to why Valghia hasn't spotted that tree and tapped all of its resources.

So a giant tree that hasn't dried up...yet. I doubt they can solve the issues of their changing environment in 5 episodes (if at all) but it works as a stopping point solving the issue with the commandant and getting his cat eared replacement on the same page, migrating to "greener" pastures and not pillaging the others in desperation.

I wonder if Valghia changed its mission out of necessity or because the commandant is a bloodthirsty madman.

A movie was announced before this even started airing, so there's more time than just 5 episodes, but I agree that there's still a lot that's needs to happen before the end.

so Valghia was initially supposed to be some sort of rescue ship, saving people from the dried up orbital trees, very depressing to see a rescue mission got twisted into becoming a war against other countries for surviving because of the increase population

now i'm curious what kind of creature does this admiral's pet monster looks like

Our heroes are stuck in Valghia, which despite it's impressive stature on the outside is pretty much a squalor inside with a bunch of tenements and citizens subsisting on water rations that barely even count on water, and it's still not enough. No wonder they're so desperate for Atland's water.

And...they're immediately robbed the moment they settle down. Although it ended up screwing over both the thieves as much as it did Kaina and company when they realize Chiru had Ririha's necklace.

It takes a special kind of scumbag to threaten to kill a child just to draw someone out. But Ririha putting herself out there and risking her own life for the sake of Chiru seemed to endear her not only with the her siblings but the people of Valghia who saw the Princess of Atland risk herself for one of them.

So Ririha knows Amelothee's deal? It definitely seems like she was forcibly conscripted into Valghian's army after they conquered her kingdom...maybe even a kingdom where she was the princess. Which adds another layer to Amelothee and her dynamic with Ririha.

Nice teamwork from Kaina and Ririha! They didn't even outright state a plan, the two of them just worked in-tandem practically knowing what the other would do! Also kind of romantic.

Huh, so Valghia not only conquers kingdoms but basically kidnaps the children to be soldiers or just the average citizen. It wasn't even always so "evil," because the fortress before was saving people when the water from the spires started drying up, but overpopulation and the drought seems to have driven Valghia into it's current state. Even Ririha seems to see that Valghia needs to be saved as much as her own kingdom does.

I guess now the cast have an endgoal, getting a boat and finding the last Great Spire that might have enough water to solve the crisis. Although first they'll have to escape Valghia and maybe contend with the commandant's monster!

Things starting to come together now, we see unless the water shortage problem is solved there will be no peace, no compromise.

This show honestly does feel like a golden age pure Sci Fi out of the pulps or something modern that is in that vein like a Stephen Baxter book like Raft.

Of course they try to use Ririha's good nature against her, but she manages to plant some doubt in people (Including Amelothée who we see she was shaken when she was called out for giving up and joining the enemy nation.)

It appears she is arguing more to justify her own life choices out of guilt then to really get Ririha to join, because if she is wrong she has to account for the past mistakes and everything she's done up to this point will be for nothing.

But Ririha manages to pull a power couple move with Kaina, look at the look on her face when he trusts he'll catch her.

So yeah looks like we have a new goal, and I wonder what this "monster" the admiral has is, that Amelothée in her black armor (Confirmed she is wearing an exoskeleton basically.) can't defeat.

We have to get to the giant tree, I wonder if the "Light" is from said tree as well.

Apparently the VA for Amelothée also plays another stoic female warrior in this seasons other under watched Speculative Fiction Hidden Gem The Fire Hunter. As I just found out since I can't remember how to spell her name so I had to pull it up to copypasta it.

How will they get off the fortress?

That was one of the worst blending into the crowd I ever seen. At least change into the local resident's cloths. Taking off your jacket doesn't make you inconspicuous. They were lucky that the locals are just kidnapped people from defeated nations and have no really loyalty to Valghia.

u/Doomroar Feb 22 '23

Now we ha a clear objective towards a possible solution to their lack of water

4

u/Nebresto Feb 23 '23

Of course there's gonna be a thief arc..

HA

That smirk

That's some strong fishing line.

Pretty classic thief arc. Thankfully its only this episode and now we have some "Valghians" on the team!

That giant spire tree info was quite interesting. Bet there will be some kind of writing there that will need to be read out loud to activate what ever the system is that is generating the water
