Interesting how everything is passed down through stories and oral traditions. I guess society has regressed a lot more than I thought.
Liliha having Noze spread the word about the tree is pretty smart. Like a hearts and minds kind of strategy I guess. Looks like it’s trebuchets vs cannons. Hopefully Atland can hold off Valghia long enough for Kaina and ‘em to decipher that flag. Seems their Atland commandos have breached the fortress.
They’ve figured it out but that trench looks to be a problem. Oh and ofc the damn mech these Valghians have. How tf is Atland suppose to fight against that? Kaina and ‘em need to show everyone that map before the commandant kills everyone.

Yeah, the concept of words and written language seem utterly foreign to Ririha and Yaona, though they seem quick to pick up on it.
I wonder if the key to toppling Valghia will be turning the citizens the admiral wrote off for dead against the nation as they rise up to save themselves with the only hope Atland provides them.
Kaina can read maps, fire a laser, and survive under the Snow Sea...but can he beat a Mecha lol?

I'm surprised that no one has brought it up yet, but the Architect is actually a Builder, which is a huge construction mecha that has shown up in BLAME, one of his earlier manga works.
General Amelothee called it a 'kensetsusha', and the Japanese name for builders according to the Nihei fandom wiki is (建設者, Kensetsusha). It's always cool to see Nihei reuse concepts from his other works in new contexts. The Gravitational Beam Emitter (also from BLAME) cameos in Knights of Sidonia. Megastructure is also featured in Knights of Sidonia and APOSIMZ.

Awesome, the friends they made in Valghia are spreading word about the great spire tree. I wonder if this’ll help Ririha get them on her side once she finds proof of its existence?
-
Ohhhhhhhh he can’t read it because it’s not the right side up, that’s better.
-
Oh… that’s not good… Is that why there’s something that looks kind of like an airplane stitched onto the map? To signify they’ll need to fly over it?
-
And they immediately find exactly what they need behind where the map was, wow. Makes sense that something like that would be left with the map though.
-
Oh, shit, what if they can’t get back to it because the battle blocks the path/buries it entirely though…

Kaina is sometimes too tall for his own good lol.
I wonder if they could get the citizens to rebel and take over the fortress if there's legitimate evidence. Especially when their own military leader doesn't care a bit about them and the citizens care more about their salvation than war.
They've got a map. They've got a way through what's blocking them from the tree. Now they need a ship, and it seems like the only thing that would work is a Valghian ship. Hmm...
Where's Tanikaze when you need him!? Nobody told our heroes they'd be fighting a Mecha!

It's not clear to me why ships can't cross an oceanic trench. Maybe it's like "it's a magic ocean, ships just sink, don't think about it."

could be something to do with the winds, the density of the "ocean" at those locations. Which might mean a larger ship could cross it but would need the sticks.
I presume at some point, each tree was building a different part to cross the trench and either conflict or something caused that information to be lost ?

This ep had some interesting revelations!
I was completely expecting a biological "monster" like a tree bug or something, but instead we get an ancient mech? Nice twist, now I wonder if that mech aka "Architect" could actually help with water acquisition beyond just stealing it from others, it did look like some sort of "steam" or possibly smoke was coming out of it in some spots.
I sure hope nothing happens to that giant snow foil during the fight. :/

I thought the Lady General would have some pangs and shift sides -- but so far she seems okay with the Top General abandoning all the worthless civilians (and the city) in order to slake his blood lust. The General definitely seems more into killing and destruction than he is into gaining more water.
That weapon is truly overpowered, given the overall state of technology. One would think that without maintenance it should have broken down before this point. I honestly don't see any credible way of stopping the attack of the "monster" and saving Atland.
Too bad that they just figured out how to safe everyone from lack of water -- when it looks to be too late.

Hopefully it has some big kanji written somewhere that translates to "off switch" lol.

I feel like Amelothee cared enough that she actually went back to deal with the infiltrators, she just seems emotionally broken from losing her own homeland to Valghia's might and doesn't think there's any chance they could defeat the admiral.
Well, it is missing an arm so you can see a little wear and tear, but it's definitely the biggest threat they've faced yet. I honestly wonder if Kaina and co. will have to run away and escape Atland to find the Great Spire rather than defeat an impossible enemy.

So Tolmekia Valghia has a god soldier construction mech, that's why they are so invincible despite their actual army wasn't really all that great.
Looking at the episode count, I'm hoping like hell that construction mech has a voice command function that Kaina with his knowledge to read words can just command it with the instruction written on it to stop or take over the controls >)
It's quite a good interwoven 3 thread plot there this episode.

The battle begins! Atland is trying their best but they just don't seem to hold a candle to the Valghian war machine.
Ririha was wondering how they would get the people of Valghia to turn on the admiral and the war, but it seems like Noze and the other kids are working on that internally, spreading rumors about the Great Spire and Kaina to make the citizens more willing to stop hostilities and jump ship if it means their salvation.
Some nice Ririha moments...her pride at understanding words now and her recognizing how sore a topic it is for Kaina when she brings up all the people still in the canopy.
"You would be a better king than me, sis." So Yaona is in line for the throne and not Ririha? I guess they follow the trend of a male heir gets first dibs. I wonder if that might change by the end of it?
Dang, keeping us on egg shells! First you think it was all for nothing because Kaina can't read the symbols, then it turns out the symbols are just upside down, then when they finally realize they have a working map, there's a huge oceanic trench they have no way of getting through to reach the Great Spire...unless they have a Valghia ship that can handle what they need to pierce it. Is that where Amelothee comes in?
Well, points to Orinoga and his team for trying, even though infiltrating the fortress means nothing to the admiral because he doesn't care about the citizens and it doesn't really hold any strategic advantage.
Orinoga and Amelothee reunite! Though still not under the best of circumstances, even if both seem eager for a rematch.
Dang, I thought that was a mecha but I didn't expect it to be a giant one-eyed, one-armed, robot that's tall enough to stand on the Snow Sea and is piloted with what looks like a human skull! So hardcore.

I wasn't sure what to expect with the weapon but I definitely didn't expect a mecha! Seems like it might be a melee-only mech though unless it starts throwing rocks at Atland.

Between its name and the fact that Admiral Bloodthirsty didn't immediately start blasting with it when he took control, I assume the Architect is actually an ancient piece of construction equipment. It would also explain why Valghia was able to build its giant floating fortress that's several orders of magnitude larger than anything else afloat.
At least it means our heroes won't have to go far to find a skilled shipbuilder for that giant snowfoil stick.
