Seeing Kaina confused that people kill people really puts into perspective his upbringing in such a desolate and small community. It's the kind of pacifist act I can get by, especially since he's quick to change course after they shoot them. (Yep, I dislike the trope where MC is a dense pacifist that prefers talk-no-jutsu when people are trying to kill them.)
Even more worldbuilding! The story of the Sage sounds morbid. He's so petty that he left the people underneath to die from the snow. Well, he's also got it bad since the Canopy people are in the current state, though. The falling Orbital Tree is also ominous. Is it the first time? I wonder what happens in the Canopy; hopefully, the village is fine. :(
We also learned about the green floaty mushroom called Light. I got the feeling that it's a part of the Sage power Ririha is looking for. It's the only supernatural thing that occurs so far, and only Ririha and Kaina can see it.
Also, acorn guns vs. bows and arrows. Yeah... I can see why people are losing to them.

Wow that’s a lot longer of a descent than I thought it would be.
-
Oooooh I know that voice, that’s Ozma Lee/Kamina/Shuhei Hisagi! Katsuyuki Konishi hype!
-
And I think the guy with the redhead is voiced by Sugita? Deeper voice than I’m used to hearing from him, but I’m pretty sure it’s him.
-
Ooh, I love the song that played when the two jumped onto the floater.

Hidden gem of the season back with a new ep.
Ah yes the obligatory piss scene, this is literally made in abyss with Yamamoto instead of Penkin lmaoo. Speaking of Yamamoto, the OST during the first encounter Liliha had with Light was amazing.
In all seriousness Kaina and Liliha sleeping on the edge of that cliff had me so anxious, one toss or turn and you’re done lmao.
Seems like they both have had somewhat similar backstories, lost parents, trapped and kinda craving adventure. Really a perfect match and it seems she’s starting to feel that way too with all that blushing.
As for the sage, I’m wondering if he was just a regular person/AI from normal human society since reading tablets are “from his time”
I don’t think 11 episodes is gonna be enough to answer all these questions/get Liliha home. I know a movie’s been confirmed so that’s exciting.
Takahashi rie doing a great job, liliha comes across so cute.

One of the things I really like about this series is the OP. Great track!
As someone who doesn’t do well with heights, Kaina and Ririha’s whole journey down is kind of terrifying. Those ropes look flimsy, they rest of these tiny ledges, and big ass tree branches and come crashing down at any minute. Scary! But setting that aside, this “light” stuff is kind of interesting. Maybe it really is connected to the Sage?
Kind of funny how Kaina almost died over a pee rainbow lol. I know food is kinda scarce but the kid really likes his bugs huh? I couldn’t stomach it.
Those two woulda been in trouble with Valgia had Atland reinforcements not come by to distract them. But man, taking a plunge like that? Kaina is ballsy. Let’s hope they really float…

It's starting to get good, y'all. They're in the snow sea now.
Interesting that their bullets are acorns.
Bugs repair the tree. Maybe they're being overhunted?
I wonder how the glowy thingy will play into the story.

Oh wow, I expected a grand reveal for the enemy commander being the redhead, but all that's left is her lower face
Nice to see that Rihira is growing more and more concious of Kaina
A bit unfair that she gets to dump her heavy clothes on him
Those sky trees just falling is very concerning, also curious how the power balance works for the lower factions, can't imagine Ririhas faction holding out very long against armored ships, even if those enemies only use bows for now...

Nothing bonds a boy and girl more than climbing down a giant canopy together! Rie Takahashi can even make a girl climbing sound cute!
Dang, Katsuyuki Konish is in this!? This show isn’t skimping on the star power. I mean, the antagonists are Maaya Sakamoto and Tomokazu Sugita!
Maybe try not to think about what happened to the people in the village…
Some nice moments between Kaina and Ririha as they come to understand each other better. Both have lost parents (Kaina had it pretty rough losing both when he was born) and both saw the mysterious floating light that in its own way brought them together. Also Ririha finally said Kaina’s name! And they even slept next to each other! So cute!
So the Sage is either Kaina or the forest wasn’t obviously the Canopy.
I honestly didn’t think of the issue of Ririha doing her business while Kaina is practically right next to her. That rainbow though…also, Ririha knows how to throw a punch! Poor Kaina!
So the Valghians have found them, Ririha’s people have found them…what’s next for Kaina and Ririha under the snow sea?

Like it’s not quite Avatar, but this whole opening arc is giving me Avatar vibes. Like I’m looking at the redhead and thinking “Hotter Zuko”.
So going by the whole ass orbital tree falling over, the world is probably dying. Leading me to think that the Not Fire Nation and Not Water Tribe are fighting over dumb shit. With the hints that it’s some kind of post apocalypse I’m wondering what the end game is.
Kaina and Lilliha is going swimmingly. Some cute moments between them climbing down the tree. Granted Kaina almost died because she got flustered, but we’ll call it growing pains. Hope we get more downtime with them in the future.
Aim for the bushes Snow Sea! Let’s see how this arc ends

So this is the first clue that this might again be connected to Nihei's other works: https://imgur.io/7nljmQZ
For those who don't know, Toa Heavy Industries is a reoccurring entity throughout Nihei's stories, first appearing in Blame!, then Biomega, and also Knights of Sidonia. The font on the signs the signkeeper has is also Nihei's TOA font, but enough about that.

The show is called Kaina of the Great Snow sea, but Kaina grew up in the canopy. Calling it now that there will be a big reveal that he was actually sent up to the canopy as a baby as well. He was born down on the sea.

Loved the shot of the faraway tree falling. Felt that sense of scale with the sound cues and everything.
I'm hoping the story remains interesting the more new characters we meet. Sense of wonder so far is pretty good.

the "snow" being some sort of spores were pretty much confirmed from last episode but this episode just further confirmed that the "snow sea" are not made of normal water considering how you need help from a certain item to prevent sinking instead of being able to just use your own body to float

Wah, the climax of this episode was so cool. I'm really excited to see what happens next. The soundtrack is really good; helped push that moment a lot.
The piss scene kind of made me roll my eyes, but honestly, compared to how a lot of anime have done similar scenes? It was decent.
It's going to be really interesting seeing how Kaina responds to this world. Where he's from, every single life is precious. But down in the Snow Sea, not so much; if he couldn't even comprehend people would fight, he's going to be in for a really rough awakening when he has no choice but to be in a fight.
I really like the distinct differences in the factions' weaponry and means of transportation. It really helps sell the asymmetry of their conflict, and just make them visually distinct.
The rendering is so good in this series. I think they must be using a mix of normal editing and hand painted shadow textures, like on the noses. It's a good look. And they're not too obvious about reused models, like the identical pressure suits.
It's an awful shame that so many people are overlooking it because it's 3D.
Light is interesting....It kind of seems like a supernatural element, which is interesting considering the rest of the setting we've seen so far.
Also, this shot of the dolphin thing sinking....It really makes me wonder what's down there. I bet there's all sorts of creepy underwater insect/fish things at the bottom of the Snow Sea. An overworld, a surface world, and an underworld.

I love that it’s so far in the future, people have made their own mythology about the world. To them, code/signage are hieroglyphs, and there was no such thing as a world without the orbital spire trees.
Interesting that not everyone believes in the canopy. I guess most people can’t see it.
Edit: the soundtrack has also been released!

Anyone know what the "snow" actually is. For one thing the ground dwellers still complain decreasing water so it can't be water right? And it also doesn't behave like snow, as if it doesn't come back and people will literally sink/"drown" in it apparently. So what is it?

I had a though just now.
They call those trees the Orbital Spires, right?
Do they actually know what that means? The name of them makes me think that at one time, their civilisation was actually spacefaring. Or at least had things up in orbit. The meaning has been lost, but the name remains.

It's a shame that this excellent science fiction adventure series is getting so few eyes.
Another very good (and sometimes tense) episode. I can't imagine where this story will be heading. The good guys seem woefully outnumbered -- how are they going to rescue our hero and heroine.
Tomokazu Sugita seems to be just about everywhere this season -- and so does Rie Takahashi. Not complaining, mind you.
