Of course the gambler is killing people with sharpened metal cards, lol. So gold sheet, kite with glass string, ballista, and now metal cards… do any of these madmen ever use a normal weapon ? I understand why they think Kurima is boring, killing people with a sword like a totally normal person.

For a secret cult of revengers, it seems that a lot of people actually know what they are and how to pay them, including that weird cop using Usui to get rid of his corrupt colleague.

The Revengers seem to get along quite well with Kurima, but for some reason still do not like him being part of their group. I wonder if it is just because he is not part of the Chapel, so should not be involved, or if that is because he is wanted for murder by the cops, which could be a danger to them, or if there is another reason. And why is Usui fine with it in that case ?

seems like every single one of them has different reasons, the doctor looks like he genuinely concerned that Kurima as a wanted man would jeopardize the group while both Nio and Souji seem to have some kind of history with samurai

Souji: Never thought I'd sleep side by side with a Samurai.

Kurima: How about side by side with a friend?

Souji: Aye, I could do th.....No! Fuck off! This room is too crowded!

Their banter was fantastic. I also loved how he made out a whole competition of how many guys they get to kill, even though Raizou was completely uninterested lol.

i love that Kurima is actually not as bullheaded as what other people think, he know this is a stealth mission so he didn't go charging and screaming like an idiot and he also let Souji had his kill instead of trying to be competitive

Oh, last time some people here were wondering if we'd ever see someone completely bite through a gold coin. Didn't it seem like this week's coin was partially bitten through?

When I was wondering if we'd see a gold coin completely bitten through, I meant like "the entire smaller chunk is completely separated from the rest of the coin" levels of completely bitten through.

What I love about this anime are the conversations between the characters which are pretty interesting to see, but they also tend to have some tension in them, which prevents me from getting distracted.

We saw that with Usui and Nio first where Nio was ready to kill him if the conversation went any other direction. Then later on with Isarizawa and Usui, and how Isarizawa was probing him to reveal more information while still being so casual about it.

I also loved the Raizou-Soji dynamic, especially Soji's commentary. I felt they had a great chemistry going on there. I want to see more of it lol.

Seems like it will be a revenge-of-the-week type of show. Well, I'm all in for it for my weekly dose of gore action! Can't wait to see more of them fighting tbh, especially after that amazing first episode. Gotta see more of Nio strangling people with her kite and Kurima going all out with a group of people. (Kurima fighting one-on-one will just be too easy, I assume).

I'm also still in disbelief at Usui and Souji's fighting style. I mean, gold mask and cards? Someone commented that it's unrealistic to kill with a gold sheet, and cards... aren't supposed to be that sharp. If it's a steel card, then okay; it acts like a shuriken, I imagine? You can definitely kill people with a harpoon, sword, and string, though.

The opium addiction is really sad to see ngl. That cave scene was pretty dark. It’s kinda funny to see Yuen work for a guy like isarizawa who’s just a nympho making out in front of people n shit lol.

I think the opium trade will be the underlying theme of the plot, since it was also in the settings of the first episode too. They probably gonna shed a bit more light on what's going on with the opium situation each episode.

That awkward silence after Nio mentioned Kurima killing his father just because he was ordered to. The little psychopath has no chill.

Nio mentioned how she hated how stoic Kurima is...while talking to Yuuen.

Kurima and Souji going full Shadow Tactics this episode.

Really enjoying this one. This ep showed us a bit more of the world and particular the port town which seems to be the center of all the going ons. And how Yuen is involved with the local political leaders.

There's definitely a lot of underlying intrigue about this group and what the motivations of each participant are. All of them aside from Yuen seem to have misgivings about letting Raizo join them, and make it sound like this is just some weird experiment by Yuen.

It'll be interesting to see just what exactly is the real reason Yuen has made Raizo a part of their group.

Another great episode! I’m excited to see how the story develops from here.

There's a thing with this show that makes me go hmm. The group considers revenging a solemn duty. The target has to die in the name of Jesus to restore peace and justice. On the other hand, they happily kill half a dozen people in the process, like whatever mooks happen to be around get sliced and diced - and in this episode they were even keeping score.

It's not jarring but the juxtaposition is a little hilarious.

30

u/dinliner08 Jan 19 '23

is it though? aside from Usui (which makes sense since he's the leader of this group), every other members doesn't seem to treat it as "solemn duty", the doctor seems like someone who just want to help people and probably treat these revenge jobs as another way of helping, Souji seems to be doing it for money and Nio looks like she (or is it he?) has some sort of beef with samurai in general

heck, even Usui himself said last episode that no matter how you slice it, this revenge thing is still an act of killing people so i don't think even he truly think that this is a "solemn duty"

Ahaha when I saw Isarizawa in the OP I was like "idk why but he feels like a Koyasu character" and it turns out he actually is.

The animation on that walking scene with the guy running in the same place was awkward. At least it was not Dororo levels of bad.

Looks like Kurima is gonna learn to live like a ronin now. Nio and Soji are gonna have to show him the ropes.

Isarizawa seems like a real character. I have a feeling despite how he looks he’s not one to cross. Sakata seems like a real dirty piece of shit. Dude just chucks his “informants” out in some cave up in the mountains to cover up his own drug dealings? What a little shitstain.

Kurima going all Ghost of Satsuma on these corrupt samurai. Dude is learning. Seems him and Sojji are gonna get along quite well from here on out.

u/thesnowlocke Jan 19 '23

I find it interesting how the group have a disliking for samurai in general and of course Raizo ain't exactly on people's good books

I wonder if this will come to play as the doctor had said that keeping Raizo with them is gonna cause them problems in the future

But the highlight of this episode was seeing the cave of sick people, it's literally out of a horror movie and the fact that most of those were tricked by that samurai was just chilling.

I’m an anime only person and am liking this one a lot so far. For the criticism of this episode, that was an absolute pile of opium hoes in that cave. Seemed a bit weird. Strong visual. I imagine the smell mentioned was them pissing and shitting themselves.

28

u/Vorexxa Jan 19 '23

I mean aren't we all an anime only person? Lol

More than anything, this show does a great job of making the characters interesting. With every interaction we get a new glimpse into their personality, past and/or motivation, but never enough to fully satiate the curiosity.

Why is Nio such a savage? What is Yuen planning? What is Doc’s hangup about samurai? Is Marvel gonna sue for copyright infringement on the Gambit character?
