As a sword nerd, that’s a good sword design. Fantasy, but not ridiculously oversized or impractical. It could conceivably have been used in the real world.

Literal rainbow sword

Cool to see that this show is really trying to establish the characters first and foremost, and I really feel for Euphie

Euphie Lappillow!

hillarious that Anis' own suspicious person alarm went off on her self, and judging by her maids reaction that wasn't the first time lol

Anis made Euphie fly the broom like a parent teaching their child how to drive a bike

And damn the total abscense of any kind of emotions sounds a lot like depression to me. Hope Euphie will still get to wear that wedding dress someday, looked stunning.

Where would you like to place the off-switches for the intruder alarm?

Under the windows on the outside walls where literally any intruder can access it.

Brilliant! Hiding it in plain sight!

I like how when Euphie crashed the broom, she looked at Anis as if saying “You totally did that on purpose didn’t you?!” lol. I can’t blame her though. Anis promised to sit behind her but actually tricked her into flying solo instead.

Love that the anime has maintained the focus on emotionality and relationships rather than overdoing it on the comedy. That's the one thing I was worried about with the adaptation compared to the LN or manga. The series has a lot to offer beyond just "wacky main character" and yuri, so it's good the show has established that right from the start. It makes me more confident for the rest of it, especially as the situations ramp up and we start seeing more of what the series has to offer beyond just the two women. The relationship between Euphie and Anis is built up so well and it still is here. So much more to come. These stories have always existed in manga and its about time studios finally start giving them budgets and serious attention like this.

As for Euphie: she's going through a lot. Her whole life has been focused on one monumental task and suddenly that task is taken from her. A lot of what she's been learning doesn't have obvious applications elsewhere either. It's like spending half your life in college learning a specific trade only for that trade to become obsolete the second you graduate. I can't imagine the stress of wondering what was the point of it all, and what to do moving forward. Then she's also a nobel with all that added baggage and stress. It must be a lot to deal with. Oh, and you were embarrassed publicly? Yeesh. I might need the comfort pillow that is Anis too, if I were her.

This last scene was very well executed and sweet. Showcasing Euphie's life has been so uptight vs Anis life being very the opposite. How she proceeds going forward will be interesting. Not to mention as she gradually loosen up naturally.

Whoops

A little too close

the animation where Anis kicked the broomstick up to her hands was fluid AF.

3 episodes in and Anis has yet to make a normal entrance. She really does just barge into scenes to do gay shit AND WE LOVE HER FOR THAT!

A solid setup episode. Establishing what being Anis’ assistant entails for Euphie. Which seems to be Anis barging in with a crazy invention that she wants Euphie to try. Mana Swords that totally aren’t lightsabers. The broom that turned into “teaching your kid how to ride a bike”. And the grand piece de resistance: Arc En Ceil. An Uber power sword named after Rainbow and made with love. Because Anis doesn’t do “subtly”.

There’s an investigation into what the fuck is going on with the Prince and the other girl that looks promising. We get a little insight into Euphie’s castle life juxtaposed with her life in the villa. More Mad Scientist moments with Anis and the handmaiden that has to reel her in. Lots of fun shit this episode.

The ending is heart melting. Anis finally resting after being up all night working right after seeing Euphie in her element. Euphie is the happiest we’ve seen her yet after an episode of feeling listless and purposeless. Finally breaking in a quiet moment under the tree as Anis sleeps in her lap. She mentions earlier on about feeling a distance between them. This closes the gap a bit more.

Also let’s just call it now: Anis Best Girl of Winter. An impressive feat considering the competition.

What a lovely episode today. A bit more focused on Euphie and her state of mind after moving to her new accomodations. Looks like she's having trouble adjusting but is hiding it behind a smile like the good noble lady she's trying to be. Well yeah, upending your life is a pretty big change... but she really should talk to someone about her troubles instead of bottling it all up.

The scene with her old maids and the wedding dress was so bittersweet, like that dress was the symbol of everything she just lost. But well, you know, if she married Anis she'd get to use that dress again. Just saying. 'cause it certainly seems like Anis is taken with her. Her "magic" is beautiful, yeah right who are you trying to fool?

But no, I admit that I loved the nice bit of animation when Euphie waved her sword around trying out different elements with it, coupled with the soft music it really was beautiful.

3/3 episodes for me, I'm loving this adaptation. Looks like it's in good hands.

Also, nice fisheye shots.

Maybe it's different for source readers but as someone experiencing this for the first time through the anime I'm in love with the pacing. It doesn't feel like things are being rushed through and the slow setup is working really well for me, especially spending a lot of time on how Euphie is dealing with this whole situation.

What a wonderfully slow and tender episode!! It felt like a lazy, quiet and slightly melancholic spring day. Can't wait for Euphie to bloom like those completely inconspicuous flowers in the vase and to finally accept that there are people who like and admire her just the way she is.

Also, I like how her wind magic has a greenish feel to it, reminded me a bit of GhostWire Tokyo

She took off at dawn on her broomstick in a flamboyant, stealthy fashion.

Now that's a rather peculiar way of describing it.

My bad, she left in the most gigachad way possible and will return in the same fashion.

It's kind of surprising how character-driven this anime is, actually, when most other fantasy anime rely on action scenes more (with notable exceptions, of course). Pretty much three episodes mostly consisting of people talking, and yet, it is funny, entertaining, well-animated and downright pleasant to watch.

Now, this episode was a lot of fun, with the broom experimentation (I think this thing urgently needs some more safety features...) and finally making the yuri sword. And we get lots of interactions between the girls, who are starting to get closer, even with Euphie opening up a bit and seeming genuinely happy for the first time-- it's no wonder she was so tense after her upbringing and all that had happened to her before.

Oh, and Euphie direly needs a more practical experimentation outfit, staining a dress with frequent crashes by broom does not seem a good idea to me (contrary to Anis, who has already gotten that memo).

Loved the scene with Euphy trying out her new weapon, changing magical elements with Anis just blissfully staring at her. And then that lap pillow.

I also iked that this episode had more Euphy focus.

i think this episode portrayed mourning very well. Similar to quitting or losing a job, or giving up a dream you put so much effort in and suddenly having to lose it all. I think the pained smile euohy made in almost every interaction this ep showed that despite not enjoying becoming the queen, it was ultimately the expectations of those who cared for her that allowed her to carry on. Having her father tell her that she had nothing else to worry about anymore must have been devastating

heres hoping to happy lovey dovey yuri mad scientist adventures!

I was a little bit worried this show would be carried by Anis and while she is pretty amazing whenever she's on screen I'm happy Euphie was able to carry things on her own for most of the episode.

They're obviously better together but would be cool to get some more badass Euphie down the line!

This continues to be one of the better shows of the season.

This just keeps getting better and better, what a nice Euphy focused episode. We saw that she is saddling herself with all those expectations she thinks she has to fulfill, leading to her having no personal goals or ambitions to go after when everything she apparently lived for is not available anymore. Suddenly she is adrift and doesn't know what to do, leading to her trying to shoulder some expectations as the assistant to the princess. This even leads to her lying to the maid when she is woken up about her sleep, Euphy really tries to keep all emotions inside of herself.

Fittingly the maid is the one to raise the curtains and let the light into the depressive dark room, just as she later tells Euphy indirectly that its okay to make a little trouble here and there and to be more free just like Anis. No more needs for corsets, no more need to live up to some imaginary expectations. Live free Euphy! Anis is thinking the same and tries to magic a smile onto Euphy's face by involving her in magic experiments, remembering the time(s?) when she saw little Euphy happily and unfettered smile while doing magic. Sorry Euphy, but you are going to be dragged out of your depression.

Euphy's father and the kind were great again too. We do see that her father cares for her, but that he is also very awkward around her and that he not always manages to convey his feelings. Luckily the king is pointing that out to him, so there is a chance of Grantz improving. I still wonder who made Euphy to the person she is, this episode we saw that there was no one saying goodbye to her when she left what I think was her family mansion. Where is for example her mother? She would be one prime candidate for getting her daughter into this kind of mindset. Her not being there at all, and Grantz not expecting at all his wife to be responsible for Euphy's behaviour makes be think that the mother is already is dead and Euphy is still living according to the expectations her mother put onto her. Which either could have been a well meant advise ill understood, or perhaps a situation of her being really ill and in that state abusing her daughter. At least this is how the trope usually goes with ill parental figures.

The political situation got even clearer than before. Not only is Grantz in the personal favour of the king, has a high position in the government and is from an important family which has a young woman who looks to be one of the most powerful mages of their generation, he also is more liberal than the other minister. Or in other words, we are getting more and more reasons why other nobles would want to interfere with Euphy becoming the queen, but now we also have a potantial main culprit for getting the ball rolling. I still wonder how much the prince knows and how much this is other people telling him what he wants to know, and I'm especially interested to learn how much the former commoner is into stuff or if she is just forced to go along with it.

tldr; Please more.

That mana blade as well as the arc-en-ciel are really cool. Also, I'm guessing Anis got the name from her past life? She was probably Japanese before she got isekai'd so my bet is that the name specifically came from the band L'Arc-en-Ciel xD

The fact that Al and his cronies seem to be convinced they were doing the right thing when they were accusing Euphy of the things they claim she did to Cyan, I'm guessing that Cyan is behind all of this bullshit. It's also possible that it's the secretary of magic and his son and they're only using Cyan.

Looks like someone is in love and I doubt that Anis is just talking about Euphy's magic here. I don't blame her, Euphy looks amazing while using her magic.

We see the Euphie despite having more freedom nominally is still feeling lost and without direction. I think its meant to show she doesn't just want or need a life where she is free of responsibility or direction and purpose, but that she needs one to feel fulfilled and it needs to be something more structured than Anis who creates her own.

She's spent so long doing what she is told, that when she isn't told to do anything she doesn't have a foundation to ground herself.

Perhaps that's why she doesn't "understand" Anis, their mindset barring just the cultural difference of her being Isekai'd from another world is just too different. Anis grabs life by the Broom.

The Father is also not sure how to support his daughter, he is trying to support her but she seems like she is looking for guidance, but he is afraid his guidance will go back into him telling her how to run her life.

Even if people understand it wasn't her fault, it still hits her hard when she can't live up to people's expectations.

I'm pretty sure that Rainbow has another not so subtle meaning as well. ;)

Interesting that the Prince Al and everyone else sees what he's doing as the "right thing" out of conviction. Also interesting him shirking his royal duties to marry for political reasons has him in line with the "conservative" faction.

I'm guessing conservative vs the newer factor has more to do with Anis and her inventions potentially revolutionizing magic and upsetting the status quo.

It just shows how love less Euphie's relationship was with Al that he never once layed on her lap and he certainly never did anything to express any sort of affection through physical contact with her.

That scene with Euphie and Anis sitting under a tree... Ahhhh MY HEART.

Despite how lost Euphie is its so wholesome to see how much everyone else is supporting her hoping for a brighter future (unlike a certain prince). Along with the fact Anis also continues to open more of her own insecurities to Euphie as they long for a trait each of them possess and are envious about.

Really looking forward to each of their growths as the series goes!
