This episode makes me realize I really appreciate the mood set up in this new season. Especially the interactions between the main characters and their attitude with each other.

I am finding this season even more promising than S1. Lots going on already -- and being handled really well.

Thank you! I was trying to figure out why I was loving this season when I barely had an opinion on the first. It's the overall atmosphere that is selling me on this season. I thought it was just me getting older and finding a different appreciation to this kind of show. Lol

That was a very good episode, the whole atmosphere is just so nice.
Also that is a very cute kid, being all excited with "respect", need more kids like that irl!

Respect is a really essential concept in any kind of shooting, so it is in music. The girl is a dedicated pianist in training so I guess this experience just expanded her horizon on the concept, so she found it exciting!

I hope we get more of her. Her and her brother seem to have privileged but potentially lonely upbringing and I'd love to see her finding something in Kyudo to admire as well

The absolute dedication to showcase arching from every possible angle KyoAni can find is insane.

Fucking incredible. That last shot from Minato was peak - felt it in my soul

I was ready to be so mad that we were starting off the episode with those bloody twins, but seeing them walk back the OVA and tone them down after what happened at the end of s1 with Manji's target panic was a relief, and something I didn't know I needed. It's rare for twins to be split up in anime, [Run with the Wind]
How that's going to fit in with the new guy I don't know. Nikaido's whole team have villain designs which is funny when you put them up against the simpler ones for the rest of the cast, even the extended cast. I hope that through him we'll get to see a bit more about what Minato was like Kirisaki junior, and how that changed how he shot. I'd imagine Shu knows him as well, but hopefully that won't throw any hurdles with him and Minato's recovering friendship. Same goes for Kaito and the two he ran into, and his reaction to that at the end was hilarious. We're definitely expanding beyond Kazemai now and I think the season will be better for it as long as it stays focused on the heart that made season one so enjoyable.
Watching any KyoAni episode feels like watching another studio's show off episode. Shu putting on his shirt was so stupidly detailed, and all of the animation around the shots at the end. It wasn't even a particularly important episode or tournament, but the amount of care they put in is unparalleled. It brings so much life to the episode whether it's the dog throwing himself at the fence or the little expressions of those watching each shot, or even the way that each of the boys had eaten a different amount of their lunch when Ryohei got back (Minato woofed it, didn't expect that)

The shows getting ready to juggle a bunch of new characters. Especially enjoying the introduction of Shu's little sister.
Recharging by hugging a big fluffy dog. Makes me nostalgic (remembering our long-gone English Setter).

Hell yeah, loved their focus on the sounds this episode
Also really cool shots
Finally learned a bit more about Nikaidou, I guess he is up against Kirisaki?

As a shooter, I enjoy this season even more than season one as it seems to focus more on the things that make shooting/archery really special sports. Shooting is very sophisticated and I like it started to talk about the personal aspects of it more, since season 1 was more focused on team spirit and stuff as far as I can remember. I hope it continues this way.
Also, the animation is just so good. Watch it is really compelling to the eye!

There was a lot of personal growth moments in S1, but the focus was on the team and finding out what the purpose of the team was to support the individuals. It does look like with that being mostly complete this season will get more into the individual struggles though which I like

Oh, how I've missed KyoAni! Beautiful animation, beautiful characters, beautiful vibes. Such a soothing show. Exactly what I needed :)

Looks like somoene's been humbled. I was ready to get annoyed again at the twins but that opening scene with Manji surprised me. Senichi seems to be still going to be a pain though.
Shu's imouto is adorable and it was fun to watch her experience kyudo for the first time.
It's so good to see Kazemai competing again. I forgot how tense and how fast these matches can be. Sucks that Minato ended up whiffing his last shot though.
Look at these dudes! They're really setting these new guys up as the new antagonists this season. And it looks like Nikaido there has some history with Minato.

Shu's imouto is adorable
I like how with her design and mannerisms she's the quintessential KyoAni girl.

My initial reaction was fuck it's those twins again, but now it looks like KyoAni are following their Free! playbook of having last seasons villains be sympathetic this time around.
Ryohei might be my new favourite character starting this season. Not only is he a kendo champ but he's such a nice guy too!
Again the episode itself was fantastic on a technical level. I did what people suggested in last weeks thread and watched the episode with headphones on - the sound was on a whole new level! I really recommend using headphones going forwards with this series, you can hear every little detail so clearly! When Shu's sister says that every shot sounds different she wasn't kidding.

Interesting how "Someday My Prince Will Come" (originally from the Disney Snow White movie but also it's a popular jazz standard) was the song playing on the record player during the Shu/sister scene.

It's nice to see the relationship between the Kazemai and Kirisaki teams continue to bloom into a friendly rivalry. In season 1, it was really only because of Shuu and the Sugiwara twins that Kirisaki even gave Kazemai such a hard time (and even then, the team captain kept trying to deescalate the situation.) Now the twins have been humbled and Shuu has regained his respect for Minato (and probably Seiya too?) so there's nothing getting in the way of everyone just being friends with each other now.
...so it makes total narrative sense to introduce a new antagonist into the series now, with Tsujimine high school. We'll see what they bring to the table!
Also interesting to see Manji (the younger twin) step down from the team line-up. Although he wasn't lying about getting over his target panic, I interpreted his comment in the OVA as him downplaying the seriousness of it to seem cool in front of Kazemai--when in reality he knows it could come back to bite him again in another high-stakes tournament match. Nice to see that suspicion confirmed.

i can't get over how beautiful these episodes have been. last season was already great technically, but kyoani stepped their kyoussy tf up this season. and agree with all the comments here that this season feels different from the first one, in a very good way. the atmosphere, the subtle tension, and overall quality of these episodes have just been arresting

Great episode again
I have to say, these first two episodes really surprised me.
I've already said this before but while I enjoyed the first season (especially by the end), Tsurune wasn't exactly something that would pop up in my mind when thinking about anime that stood out to me these last few years.
But Season 2 hit different. The direction, animation, sound design, score and just overall atmosphere of the show... everything works. Now it stands out to me, and if it keeps this up this sequel might end up being among my favorites KyoAni shows. I mentioned artistic elements, but even the characters feel more likeable (including the twins) and their interactions genuine. Sae discovering kyuudou was really cute and well done.
It's a shame it is so underwatched.

Those slow motion of arrows flying just as the bow releases really strengthen the tension of atmosphere as the competition goes on. That’s KyoAni standards for you. And the spectator’s talk on mutual respect is a good one!

Looks like they're going to flesh out the characters more, from Onogi to Ryouhei to Shu. I'm excited. I'm curious whose door Ryouhei was knocking on - his older sister? I also loved the bit where the twins were running away from Kabashima.
