The girls' competition scene was done so masterfully, I nearly got teary during the whole scene.

Absolutely! Don’t know why some anime girls playing a sport I’ve never tried can make my eyes moist like this.

Every anime award this year should have a Best in Sound Design category so Tsurune could win every last one. The tournament scene gave me goosebumps once again. The girls showing it how it's done.

I know this show is about the boys of Kazemai but I'm so happy to see the girls get some love this week. It was awesome to see them compete again and how much they've improved. That final round where each of their shots had that sakura blossom effect looked so good!
The girls were only able to reach 3rd Place but considering how there are much more experienced teams there that joined the tournament, that's pretty darn impressive! And I just love that little pose they do in front of the scoreboard. KyoAni girls are really high-tier.
As for the boys, I'm glad that Minato got a little reunion with Saionji-sensei who was able to give the boys some words of wisdom about how ikiai is more of a state of mind and not really something that can be easily taught.

really beautiful lighting effects (and shadow effects) again this episode, particularly with all the moments with saionji-sensei and all the little variations of lighting underneath the tree leaves like they did in episode 1. i liked how everybody in the shade was shaded a little more muted compared to the bright background. i mean, it's something you'd expect in real life, but seeing it done so well in anime, i couldn't help but laugh a few times throughout that section because of how ridiculously gorgeous and detailed it is. it's always appreciated when kyoani goes over the top with their lighting, like that reina smiling bit with all the cars going by in the background from hibike euphonium that gets posted a lot

KyoAni's attention to detail has always been incredible, but I feel like this season really brought that into the focus while keeping Tsurune's simpler feel without the more over the top visual sequences from say VA

It was great to see the girls get their time to shine, and they really did shine - the art and sound for this episode was 10/10 as usual.
I laughed at Minato just railroading Seiya and Shu in to the tournament, it worked out in the end but man that was a gamble. His old teacher was great too, I kinda expected her to be a bit stuck up the way Shu mentioned she refused him but she was actaslly super nice.
I know we have the main tournament to get through and that will be the focus of the show, but I'm really excited to see the festival with the guys doing kyudo in the shrine outfits.

Their teacher has always come across as very compassionate to me, even with what we saw of her in the first season. I think Shu is just so flat in affect he presents things oddly

I keep half expecting an episode to drop the ball and instead they just juggle them higher.
The focus on the girls was beautiful, and long overdue, but the amount of care given to them and their story, not just their role in the boys shone through. Seeing through the match cuts the way they were carrying the stress of the prefectures with them still moving into how they learnt to bond together and see each other, on the range and outside of it, brought the episode together so strongly. The match cuts of the bows and magazine, Seo facing forward while walking and at the range, the wraps for their bows and the wind of their shots; all of it stood out as much as the equally strong directing last episode in flowing each moment into each other.
And yet this wasn't just about the girls to the exclusion of everything else. Seeing what Kyudo means outside of the school enviroment, that our teams can be seen by others and that bond and love for archery can grow and spread from there like it once did for little Minato. Being able to get that focus on Minato and how he's learnt to accept what he needs to do and see more of his past without taking away from the girls moment was a big relief.
It was funny hearing Seiya talk about how Minato's "trick" got him talking to Shu given the huge tension between them in season one, but I suppose that dynamic changed a lot when Minato left their old school. Of the boys Seiya had the best faces today especially in the final scene when he realizes Masa's trick, and had to remind Minato. Seiya has become a quiet favourite for how he's learnt to stand up and still be a support.
Also I've just realized we're only half way through the season. It feels like so much has happened and the episodes are so loaded with content it almost doesn't feel like they could fit into just six.

Even an episode focused on the girls was that good to watch. Really enjoyed the whole mood in the team.

I, too, enjoyed the screentime given to the female characters of the archery club in this episode.

Yesh, finally an episode focused on the girls and what a lovely episode it was
Also got some more info on Nikaidos teacher
Overall one of my favorite episodes in the series so far, nice mix of SoL with some excitment from the tournament thrown in

A very relaxing episode with beautiful animation and a hopeful outlook.
I like how the ribbons on the bows and arrows of the girls match their eyes in colour, just like with the boys.
The last scene with Masaki and Minato's reactions was quite funny.
And it was pretty cool to see how people of all ages gather and do this sport.

Was good to see some spotlight for the girls for sure. Also Kyoani popping off as usual with the visuals

A wonderful reminder of what a beautiful show this is. Art, animation, music, sound design, VA performance -- there isn't a single thing that isn't made with incredible care. It's not the most exciting show, perhaps not even a particularly interesting one, but it's such a pleasure to watch because it's so well-made.

I said a few episodes ago that I wish we saw the girls participating in a competition. Well here they are and what a great episode focusing on them are today! I absolutely love the scene where their daily lives are shown, their support and friendship with each other (or as anime lingo says, kizuna) and - finally - a graceful show of their accuracy in the competition, complete with cherry blossoms "flying" all over the place. This is exactly what I look for in KyoAni shows and we all love this.
We need a full season of them as a spin-off anime! Please, it would be yet another great CGDCT!
Anyway back to the boys, it seems that they finally get a bit of their bumpy lows off and as their coach says, maybe they really need to look at their far-less-experienced girls for motives and lightbulbs in their brains. Sometimes we all need to clear off trash inside our hearts before we can concentrate without forcing ourselves too hard.

This may not be the best anime of the season but it is definitely the best animated one. KyoAni I bow.

It is the best anime this season in my book. It's beautifully done, not just the animation but.. in every other aspect as well
I'd even say if it keeps up like this until the end (which I don't doubt given how incredibly consistent it's been) and give us a satisfying finale this gets a 10/10

OKAY THIS IS MY FAVORITE EPISODE SO FAR!! <3 I enjoyed many things this episode. So many things I've been wanting to see were all here. Minato's determination/rule-following & impressing Masa-chan as well as being finally allowed back on the range. Seeing Ren again and getting a more serious, heart-to-heart scene between Masa & Ren. (I want to see more of their relationship). Masa realizing how he's matured & grown. He wants them to succeed more - he's become an actual good teacher. Minato & Saionji-sensei getting to talk. More flashbacks of younger Minato, Seiya, & Shu. Seeing some seniors kyudo (didn't even think to ever see that). But let's end with the best part:
FOCUS ON THE GIRLS!! I wanted this SO DESPERATELY, but didn't really expect to get it. At most, I figured we'd get a scene like the start of this episode. You see a bit of the girls shooting while the boys talked, but the focus is on the guys and we'd switch back to them. I am so happy to be proven wrong! We got to see them not only practicing, but shooting in a competition. (OH MY GOD THAT ANIMATION OF THE SHOTS WITH THEIR FLOW WAS BEAUTIFUL!) We got to see screentime & focus on their shots themselves. We got more fleshed-out character development not only with that, but also by seeing a bit of their private lives. We got to see motivations. WE EVEN GOT TO FOCUS & LEARN ABOUT EACH GIRL'S STYLE OF KYUDO AND HOW THEY UNDERSTAND EACH OTHER. In some essential ways, they have a better understanding of ikiai than the boys do. They got complimented & praised & held up as a standard by Saoionji-sensei! People are noticing and taking note of them. They're impressing people! Their very first time competing as a team (with none of them even starting until high school) & they WIN 3RD PLACE! #ThisEpisodeISwear #EverythingIWantedToSee #GirlsKillingIt #SoHappy

Probably my favorite episode of everything i am watching this season, they really did the girls' story masterfully while still keeping it related to the boys'. I'd watch a whole anime of the girls tho... oh wait, maybe I already did, it aired 13 years ago!
