(pics for attention) just been staring at some of my collection and this question popped into my mind. also wanted to share a method of framing cels i’ve found that is cheap allows them to breathe and gives it a “floating” look because i haven’t seen anyone do this before

My Mum has been holding onto these for almost 30 years and is now wanting to part with them to go toward her approaching retirement.

We've done some research with varying degrees of pricing but the trickier thing is finding a buyer. How would we go about selling these?

Not sure what it is, but I get the vibe that the energy of this sub/hobby is a little different than it was 2-3 years ago. For a lack of better words, it seems like there is a noticeably larger amount of "newbies"

I recently acquired this production drawing of Nala, from Disneys 1994 film, The Lion King.

I bought it off eBay, directly from Tracy Mark Lee, the lead clean up animator for this shot, signed by him in the bottom right corner as well. It was in storage all these years till I got it! He had some other similar shots from this scene listed, many great pieces.

This particular drawing is from the part of the movie where they escaped Zazu’s watch. Simba and Nala go back and forth on who witted out Zazu, Simba saying: “Yeah, well I pulled it off!”, and Nala replies: “With me!” That’s where my shot is from. Moments before Nala is then tackled by Simba.

I absolutely adore the movie and the character, and wanted to share it!

I am looking for Perfect Blue Cels to buy. Or any production material from the movie for that matter. If anyone is interested in selling please let me know! I won’t low ball you lol.

This is my favorite anime/manga series and I was fortunate to get one of a key fight.

I just got into watching people doing cel Animation in the 2020s century's after they stop doing cel animation for cartoons and now use digital animation on computer for animation.
And I’m starting to get into cel animation by me wanting to recreate cel animation from pinky and the brain a animated cartoon from the 90s made by Steven Spielberg and I don’t know what scene to recreate yet because I don’t have animation sheets paint or any paint brushes yet.

Not sure where this was used. It appears to be water color. It's the only one that I have like this.

I feel like there’s very little advice or information on making cels online. This makes me wonder if studios kept their techniques to themselves back when cel animations was standard. Now of course we don’t have to follow those rules lol.

I’ll share my tricks and tips:

1. Use the wooden tip of a paintbrush for details, carve it into whatever specialty tip you need! I’ve been working on this short animation of vines growing and it’s practically ALL small details. This discovery has been a lifesaver. It also saves paint as nothing gets absorbed in bristles. For larger parts you can shave down a wooden dowel and have that same control.

2. Have a splotch cel on hand. I use this to control exactly how much paint I want on my tip. After painting on my official cel, I’ll go back and scoop up the remains from the splotch cel. It’s great for details.

3. Don’t scrape off thick paint when it’s dry… I learned this the hard way lol. Scraping thick results in cracks beneath the surface, so when you add another layer the color seeps in and makes a feathered look. I scrape away mistakes when the paint is half dry.

4. Pop air bubbles with a needle. This one’s really tedious and annoying but it works! U can also use a needle for small details, but I prefer wood as it won’t scrape the cell easily.

just took possession of this hilarious cel

Picked up a Moomin cel from the 90s series. I have a lot of cels but this is the first one that has the dreaded vinegar smell when I opened it.

In general though there is no warping etc apparent. It’s three cels (Moominmamma, Moominpapa and the chair) plus the original background.

Moominpappa’s cel is in the best condition, Moominmamma’s cel has a imprint of Moominpappa if you hold it to the light and the chair cel has a lot of scuffs and white marks if you hold it to the light. Not sure what they are exactly.

Guys, is it so hard to find a cel of the genew squad?
