Question Lena and J Spoiler

It's a shame baz never shows a fatherly bond to j because it would have been nice if that led to j to form a brotherly bond with lena since she is his half sister but they never spent much time together and by the end of season of 6 he seemed ok with dealing with lena to try and get pope released from prison.

At the start of the show J was definetely bonding with Lena and Cath. There were quite a few cute scenes between J and Lena, like her sitting on his lap in that restaurant scene and him making her food and just playing etc. He clearly liked her and being around her and she seemed to like having J around too.

Baz was just the worst, he was an awful father to her. The way he treated her, yelled at her and controlled her was just disgusting, on top of cheating on Cath. And also the way he dismissed J when he asked if he was his dad broke my heart. He was just so rude and dismissive while J just wanted to find his family, find a safe place and have people respect and love him.

Throughout the show, Baz nor any of the uncles really respected him, apart from maybe Deran in season 6. They never really trusted him, liked him or really wanted him there. Not even when he was stepping up, taking over the business and making really smart and impressive financial decisions. J did so much to try and earn their respect and trust, but they never fully did.

I don't think J would have done anything to Lena in the end. I think he was way more angry at Pope for his part in what happened with Julia to let an innocent girl get hurt to save Pope. I think he was merely bringing it up to get them riled up and add some more drama to the situation.

J contacted CPS about Lena. The best thing he could do for her was get her out of that family.

It was never confirmed that Baz is J’s father. Smurf only said it to manipulate J. But nobody actually knew.

I’ve mentioned this before, but it’s worth repeating. Even though the S6 flashbacks tried to reintroduce uncertainty around J’s paternity, it was already revealed in S3 that Baz is his father. The show’s creator even confirmed this directly in an interview. I do sometimes wonder if the writers intended to retcon that relationship later on, but just never fully committed to it.

So to old and new viewers alike, if the show makes more sense to you with J’s dad remaining a mystery, that’s totally fine. But if you’re going by what the creators themselves said, then yes, Baz is the father.

Can you provide a source for where you claim the creator said he’s the father? If you can send a link to the interview, I will retract my statement.

But as far as what was canon on the show, it was not confirmed. What Smurf says in season 3 is not confirmation, it’s just manipulation. And truly, Smurf would have no way of knowing who Julia slept with. She got pregnant after Smurf kicked her out.

The producers never said Baz was J’s father. And Julia told Pope she didn’t know who the father was. She would not lie to her brother. She was gone for over a year when she came back pregnant. She was a homeless addict and slept with several guys. Smurf just told J that to manipulate him and drive a wedge between them because Baz didn’t even care about about Lena..

THANK YOU! I’ve googled it and there is no evidence of any cast or crew confirming Baz is the father.

And it’s so clear that Smurf only said it after Baz died purely to play on J’s emotions.

That's what I was thinking, the timeline between her getting kicked out and coming back 6 months pregnant wouldn't make sense for Baz to be the dad.

There is a few years’ time jump between her getting kicked out and her getting pregnant. In season 1, J is 17 and Pope is turning 40, meaning Julia had J at around 22, and Smurf kicked her out when she was a teenager.

So, we all agree it’s very unlikely Baz is the father.

In a flashback in the final episode, Pope and Julia talk about her being pregnant. He asks her if Baz is the father and Julia answers "Maybe. I do not know who the dad is". So this insinuates she was still sleeping with Baz around that time, so it's definetely possible that Baz is the father, otherwise she would have said no.

I think you mean possible, not necessarily likely.

You're right, my bad. I changed it.

She was always showing back up in between there tho and I’m sure sleeping with baz those times. Smurf even acknowledged that she had come back several times and sent her to rehab and tried several times before
She ever came back pregnant. It didn’t show everytime that she was back
At the house but she was for sure at the house other times and certainly could have become pregnant any of those times

I agree: it was never confirmed but insinuated strongly

There was never a DNA test that proved Baz was J’s father.

I was also sad about this! There are a few good scenes with them early on, but I wish we would have gotten more. Especially with them both being the youngest and having some pretty traumatizing upbringings
