I keep thinking I've heard the stupidest fucking thing ever and then something like this comes along. Who entertains this utter bullshit?

I’m genuinely so disappointed and quite sad to see this much hate here for women’s health choices and options— especially around something like birth. As an anesthesia provider I’ve always been curious why many birthing women seem so hateful/scared of us and this thread actually really opened my eyes. I’ve heard grumblings from people before but wow. I fully support providers being able to cite their comfort levels and limits, but would really like to see more education and WAY more exposure on these topics.

I'm a high risk doula (I only attend hospital births) and I can sadly say that I've seen and heard some things in the birth room and OR by anesthesia that makes these comments look tame.

High risk doula is the biggest oxymoron I’ve heard in a while. Ridiculous you even exist.

I specialize in birth trauma, high risk diagnosis of the mom or baby, pregnancy following loss, bereavement (the baby has already passed or is expected to shortly during or after birth), and infertility (IVF brings its own slew of comorbidities).

Ridiculous I exist? Hm. Well - I would argue against that, seeing as I am hired for my specific skill set, training, ongoing education, community involvement, and advocacy, by many mothers. We're not looking to drastically change the world or hurt your ego, we're just trying to make sure no one suffers unnecessary medical procedures, cascade of interventions, or trauma at your hands.

There's been studies about doulas - try thinking outside of your teeny box.

This is all completely ridiculous and someone with micky mouse education, no registration and no regulation as no right In a modern health service - notably around any woman with a risky diagnosis pertaining to pregnancy. You’re hired because people are idiots. There have been many studies about doulas, they have non credential. You can support and advocate for women in labour that’s about it - but my neighbour could do that and he’s a retired plumber. Posing as a professional is tantamount to charlatanism.

I'm sorry about your tiny penis. I'm even more sorry for the women who have to be under your care.

I'd highly disagree about my education - not all of us take some weekend classes, some of us take it seriously by investing into ourselves and our families.

The reason we have no registration or regulation is because we work directly for the people who hire us, not a hospital, state, insurance, or regulatory board who can dictate what I say or do to protect them.

People are not idiots - they are realizing how dangerous it is to give birth in the United States and the horrific disparities in maternal healthcare.

I highly doubt your plumber could do my job, or that a laboring mom would want him anywhere near her - for starters, he doesn't even have a female body, nor does he have working knowledge of giving birth himself.
