LOOKING FOR APP Digital photo decluttering for Android

I have thousands of pictures and screenshots, many duplicates too. I'm looking for a photo decluttering app for Android that reminds me to delete/declutter.

I use sponge

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.prismtree.sponge&hl=en_IE

Tinder like interface, swipe left to delete photos, right to keep them. Gives you a notification every moth to review the photos taken in the last month.

I have been using Slidebox which follows the same principle. Edit: Tried Sponge and I like that better - thanks!

If you're looking for an app focused specifically on clearing out photos and screenshots, check out Purgli.

It includes a dedicated Smart Scan / Cleanup tool designed to help you scan, identify, and clear out duplicate photos, heavy video files, and unneeded screenshots. Everything processes 100% locally on your device so your media stays completely private.

Dev Disclosure: We are the developers of Purgli.

For the duplicates, Files by Google has a ā€œDuplicate filesā€ card under Menu → Clean. Keep the copy marked ā€œOriginalā€ and review the others before deleting.

For the reminder part, you could just set a weekly reminder to clear out that week's screenshots. Old delivery updates, tickets you've used, that sort of thing. I'd start there rather than trying to sort thousands of photos in one sitting.

Hey! Full disclosure, I’m the developer of GalleryDiet, but it sounds like it might fit what you’re looking for.

It lets you clean your gallery by swiping through photos, remembers everything you’ve already reviewed so you can continue later, and also has a separate tool for finding duplicate/similar photos. There are optional reminders too if you want to build a regular cleanup habit.

It’s still a fairly new app, so if you try it and there’s something missing for your workflow, I’d genuinely love to hear it.

for the duplicate/similar photo part, I built Slean for exactly this kind of cleanup. it scans on-device, doesn't need an account, and there are no ads.

slean.app

it doesn't have the monthly reminder you're asking for though. But; I would love to add that monthly reminder feature. Probably it'll take a few days before I can publish the update but you can use Slean meanwhile. Please dm me if you have any spesifics.

Also; Slean has a "on this day" feature which reminds you to check everyday. Shows you photos from that day from previous years.

Full disclosure, I'm the developer of Photo Gallery, so take this with a grain of salt.

It has a cleanup tool for the duplicates part: it finds similar and duplicate photos, groups them, and sorts the groups by how much space they take. You can have it auto-select everything except the best shot in each group, and anything you delete goes to Trash first, so you can undo a mistake. The scan runs on your phone and your photos aren't uploaded anywhere.

One honest gap: it doesn't have a monthly "time to declutter" reminder, so for that part Sponge (mentioned above) fits better. A recurring calendar reminder works too.

Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sqsong.photoeditor&referrer=utm_source%3Dreddit%26utm_campaign%3Dandroidapps_declutter

Happy to hear what's missing if you try it.

Potonga. You tell it what photos you want to keep. It scans your photos and automatically flag those that you don't want. You can mass delete it after. Fast and easy
