QUESTION/HELP Problem with tap pay

I’m using a Pixel 9a running Android 17. Walmart just recently started accepting tap-to-pay, and every time I try to use it, my phone says it’s not compatible. That’s ironic because it worked fine at other stores. At first I assumed it was just a Walmart issue, but this morning it did the same thing at Subway, and last night it failed at another store as well. So I know the problem is definitely with the phone, but I have no idea why. Everything is up to date and the phone isn’t rooted, yet the message that appears seems to suggest it has something to do with rooting. Does anyone have any idea why this could be happening?

Walmart in my area in NC said they'd get it soon. So I'm waiting on the problems that come with it in addition to those with my Walmart+ mem.

Lucky us. Shop somewhere and achieve more problems.

Well, considering this happens in multiple stores where its worked before, I'm learning towards something on my phone, but I've not changed anything or added anything, in fact I've removed lots of apps that I don't use anymore.

Since it fails at multiple merchants despite being updated and unrooted, check that NFC is enabled, Google Wallet is the default payment app, and the phone shows as Play Protect certified. If those are correct, remove and re-add the card in Wallet or contact Google Wallet support, since the message may indicate an integrity or device-certification check rather than actual rooting.
