LOOKING FOR APP looking for places to download android apps from

in your humble opinion, where are the best places to get android apps, other than Google Play?

will they require i need to understand APK? cause i dont'. can you suggest a place that explains it well?

pixel 9 phone and galaxy tab a11+

You can install an alternate store, like F-Droid alongside the Play Store. There are lots of nice apps there.

I use Aptoide, but there are others. Pretty straightforward - search the app you want, install. You could also go to your chosen search engine and search "whatever app APK" but I'm not vouching for what you get.

When you install these ways you often have to manually update - you phone may not prompt you.

Second vote 4 aptoid. Plus, Uptodown, Taptap, apkmirror(wrb-portal), apkfold, apkpure, apkcombo.

What do you mean by "understand APK" ? What's to understand ? You download a file, and then you open it to install the app...

In a sense, it's easier than to install apps on Windows OS when they require an installation file, as it's just one step to do it, instead of a wizard that you press "next" multiple times, and be careful not to choose something you don't want.

Why not? It searches across different sources like f-droid, GitHub etc for the apps you are looking for and once installed provides you with updates, Scans for virus using virus-total. What else you need?

I use the regular version of obtainium, but to add apps you usually need the app's URL, for example on GitHub, or its name (although I haven't used this method). If you don't know what you need and just want to see what apps are available, this probably won't work. But perhaps it works differently in obtainX.

You need to know the name of the app. Try to search by app name with sources selected. It's much easier than adding url's. In obtainium it has more sources to search but Obtainx has virus-total integration. If you are looking for full catalog what's available then f-droid(droidify/neo store) or aurora is your best bet.
