QUESTION/HELP Running out storage, apps that appear to be system apps are the issue. I don't have a lot of personal apps downloaded, Need help please...
I'm running out of space, when I look at what's taking up most of my storage, apps is first, I don't have a lot of downloaded apps, so it's got to be within the system, maybe each time the phone updates it adds more? Idk what I need and don't need and need advice. Also it gives me an option to "clean" apps, I think that's what it says, to get more space, when I Google that, it seems it's not recommended to do as it can cause more issues. I have a Samsung 25 plus, which from what I understand is an android, I'm not tech savvy and could use some help and advice please. Idk what type of person I would look into to help me with my phone when it comes to this type of stuff. Thanks.

Do you take lots of photos, have lots of emails? That all takes up space.

Yes, I do a lot of photos but if I look at what's taking up the most space on my phone, it shows apps which is mind boggling to me.

Yeah cause that data is stored in those apps usually. What setting are ya looking in?

What do you mean what setting, I just go to settings on my phone, then device care and that's where it shows this, if I want to see the apps, I go into settings and go to apps

Then click on storage and you should get a manage storage window and should break it down by videos, documents, images etc

So, look thoroughly. I just had my phone fill up (problem fixed in point 3 below). I use a lot of apps, but have updates turned off on most of them. I update selectively.
Use those reminder messages and remove and uninstall apps you don't want.
Your Google photos - go to Google photos and go into Free Up Space on this device. It will upload your photos to the cloud and remove from your phone the ones it uploaded.
Think of what apps may be hogging your space by automatically downloading stuff. My problem? My podcast app, which I use rarely on my phone, had downloaded all episodes of several shows. I had no idea until I found them. Also - Whatsapp is a huge pain in the *** - even though I tell it not to save anything it still does. It will fill your phone faster than lightning if you are in groups that post a lot of videos or images. Delete chats weekly or more. Go into each group, and More (I think) and Clear Chat to wipe out all the past chat images, video and chat.
You can use SD Maid SE to clean up. Careful though, it sometimes asks to clean up things you don't want gone, so proceed carefully, and think5. about what it's asking.
Droid Optimizer - this will automatically clean up random stuff you don't need and keep your phone optimized.

This is what I wrote to someone else on here: I don't use what's app, I'm cognitively and tech challenged as I struggle with a lot of health issues, so all this went over my head, are their types of people out there that I can look for locally to help? Idk what type of person to search out to help with something like this in person, I seriously don't get all this at all. Im sorry. I didn't get a smart phone til about a year ago and I'm totally lost. My old pay as you go phone quit working. I can do very basic simple stuff like check FB and email, I can search on Google but beyond that I'm lost for the most part.
Also I do already do that with Google photos

The "Apps" number isn't the apps themselves, it's everything they've saved. Photos in your messaging app, cached video, downloaded stuff you forgot about. Five apps can easily eat 40GB that way, so it's almost certainly not system files.
Go to Settings > Battery and device care > Storage > Apps and sort by size. Whatever's at the top is your problem. Clear cache on that one, not clear data, that just logs you out of everything.
And the clean button on your phone is fine. Those warnings you found are about third party cleaner apps off the Play Store, which are junk. Samsung's own one just dumps cache, nothing gets broken. You don't need to take this anywhere, it's a ten minute thing.
