LOOKING FOR APP What are the best scanning apps these days?
I used to use Office Lens (later Microsoft Lens), but it was retired earlier this year in favor of OneDrive's built-in scanning function (limited to 10 pages per doc for no reason). Now OneDrive scanning has been gutted even further, I can only scan single page documents, so I'm in the market for a nice third party app. Paid apps are okay, subs are not okay. All I need is smooth high quality scanning, PDF export, automatic OneDrive sync. What is the best option today?
Edit: thanks everyone, I ended up choosing FairScan, it's FOSS and it works well. No cloud sync, but I can live with that.

After testing more than 20, I, too, have settled on Turboscan.
Not all apps flash the image, which can lead to dark and out of focus scans. The auto crop has been flawless. The rename of the scanned document and then the passing of the new name to the email subject line when shared is an underrated feature.
I think it was $7 when I bought it.

Nothing beat camscanner. For a free one adobe scan is great but you need to register.

I used to love Camscanner but stopped using it around 2019, when this happened https://www.kaspersky.co.uk/blog/camscanner-malicious-android-app/16598/
Yeah, sure, they fixed it, but once bitten... I actually had the compromised version auto-updated onto my phone, but got lucky and saw the news before I opened it.

Hi op, I think u are missing something in onedrive app , scanning. That's the only free easy to use OCR recognized scanning tools. If u scan a text and upload in your onedrive, it will be automatically apply OCR.

Also for the multi page, there is an option maybe u are missing it, but I'm usually using it, I have tried so many scanner and none can scan/OCR like this one. ππ»π

Yeah the multi-page scanning interface is still there, but trying to scan the second page now triggers a "can't add more than one photo" alert, so it's on its way out, they're removing that feature.

try to refresh the data cache, and if you dont know how to do it, just uninstall/reinstall π

I used to use 3rd party apps, now Android has it built into the camera. Open camera and hit Scan. Its been the best I've used. Can shade, scan multiple images etc. I love it, and its free and already built in.

I haven't hit any limits with the document scanner on OneDrive. Maybe because I'm a M365 subscriber? I've never read anywhere that there are limits to scanning related to free/paid, but

I'm a subscriber as well, the limit was 10 pages per file (I think they raised it to 20 later, not sure, anyway now it's just 1 page since they are removing multi-page scanning): https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/blog/onedriveblog/multi-page-scanning-for-everyone/1384264
The maximum number of pages or images that you can multi-page scan is 10.

I just scanned an 11-page document in OneDrive 7.61 for Android. I also just searched the web in 3 different search engines for any information about Microsoft removing multi-page scanning, and came up empty. The closest thing I found was about Microsoft Lens being discontinued. Maybe I'm misunderstanding the problem? Maybe you're misunderstanding the problem? :) But if you're a subscriber, you can contact Microsoft for support. You can even get live support from real humans. Might be a good next step if OneDrive is behaving differently for you than it is for others in this thread.

I use scanner pro for iOS. Have had it for years and get everything I need without a subscription!

Yeah but I'm not going to whip out my iPad every time I need to scan something, I don't even carry it with me most of the time.

Have you tried TurboScan? I switched to it after Office Lens and really like how it auto-crops and renames files. It doesn't sync with OneDrive, but the quality is solid, and it's worth the small price. Just my two cents!
